Considering they didn't want either of those players at the length of contract they signed last summer, I don't see what has changed to make them want to commit the term now. I think Hughes has a patient approach for what he's building and he's not going to blow it up by giving term to older players. that's my guess.

If it was coming from a better source than Kypreos maybe. But rather than jumping through hoops to explain what is happening, the best response is that, as usual, Kypreos is full of shit. His track record on rumours (especially involving Montreal) is abysmal.
-
Oh i dont doubt the Hague part. I do doubt the Montreal part. Its the part that makes no sense. In other vegas rumours, they are looking at Marner. If thats true, you have to think Karlsson could be available in the cap dump.
-
Also the more the cap increases, the less the tax advantage. There is a reason why tax rates are only an issue in the NHL, but not NFL, MLB, or NBA. The reason is simply this, once you have a certain amount of money in your contract a few percentage points in taxes means less than winning or being happy where you are playing. The Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins, and Dallas Mavericks and Orlando Magic dont have advantages on the Lakers, Celtics, Rams, Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, etc on free agents cause of taxes. Not in any way seen in the win columns. At a certain point you have so much money that other things become important rather than an extra couple hundred grand.

There is no headstart. Any player on aj AHL only deal, two way AHL/ECHL deal, or ECHL only deal can be released and sign an NHL contract or two way NHL/AHL at any time. (Unless there is another issue like draft rights still in play, but that wouldnt apply to Cavalin so he's UFA if anyone wants him on an an NHL deal).

You said hes a 40 point guy. Thats not his average since leaving new jersey (where he was on the third line). Heck he was at 49 even in his worst year since leaving Jersey. What he did 4 years ago is not near as relevant as his last three seasons and he got 57 while Bergeron was still on the Bruins and he was centring Pasta. That was in 2nd line minutes.
-
In a years time 90% of that skill will have signed contract extensions with their teams. Waiting for the next class is a fool's errand. This literally happens every year.
-
I think Kypreos is the only one reporting this. Which makes me think its not that reliable a rumour.
-
48/49 saves for Cavallin who was named all 3 stars.
-
Hague isn't better though. He's got his own issues.
-
Its possible, but as you said, there is no upside for Primeau here. He's likely to just walk as a UFA to a team where he can be the #3 goalie and not #4 as he would be here. I mean Fowler has to be given more opportunity in the AHL just for development reasons. Its the best outcome for both sides. Sometimes draft picks don't work out and there is a time to let them go.
-
1 player doesn't give a guy 50% more points.... you have him as a 40 point guy and 2 of his last three years he nearly got 60 and one of them he didn't even play much with Pasta
-
that doesn't explain 2022-23 when he got 57 points and Bergeron was centring the marchand- Bergeron - Pastrnak line.
-
It was a couple games to cover for injuries but that happens to every AHL starter at some point when they spend 4 years in the AHL. Bound to be a call up at some point in the four years. If a couple games here and there "ruined his development", then he wasn't good enough to begin with. Not every prospect can handle the jump from AHL to NHL.

This makes no sense. Hague has size but is kinda garbage at playing hockey. Of course Kypreos isnt the best insider though
-
It is which means the price for 2Cs in Free agency and trade is going to be higher than most expect.
-
Not having many penalty minutes doesnt mean he has a lack of compete. You have to actually watch the games and not the box score. Id be pretty happy with Lakovic.
-
Impossible to say what the 26 free agent class will look like. The 25 free agent class looked great in june 2024. The next free agent class cant do extensions til July 1st, 2025 and many will re-sign ling before July 1st 2026.

He was considerably better points wise in Boston used as a 2C than in Jersey used as a 3C. I still have concerns about possession but the points have been fine.
