  1. I wouldn't call McTavish, Wilson, or Quinn better candidates. They are equally as bad as Therrien Sutter is okay Murray or Gallant would have been good. But this isn't a language thing, cause I would have taken Groulx or Roy too, ahead of Therrien..
  2. My issue with Therrien is two fold 1) throwing his players under the bus in the media. 2) his blowups behind the bench, especially the one that cost us the Carolina series in 2002. If he fixes those, I'm fine with him. But they continued to be problems in Pittsburgh.
  3. I am disappoint....this move is SOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
  4. I'm pretty sure Markov is the only player left from when Therrien coached the team, and even he' was like a rookie back then.
  5. Anton Slepyshev, victim of the KHL factor http://lastwordonsports.com/2012/06/05/nhl-draft-prospect-profile-5-anton-slepyshev/
  6. You can trade at almost any time. You can make a trade 1 minute after the trade deadline if you want. All the trade deadline means is that any player acquired after the deadline can't be used in the regular season or playoffs that year. Its not a bar on trades, its a deadline to acquire players before that day in order to use them. The only true "trade freeze" where no trades can be made is the Christmas one. However the NHL asks teams not to make trade announcements during the playoffs, but its not forbidden. Seems the Pens and Caps didn't want to obey the memo.
  7. A 2nd and Pateryn (a 5th drafted just days earlier) was what we got for Grabovski. Considering the kid was a prospect, out of favour with the team, abandonned the team and took off on a flight to LA to talk to his agent, and didn't have a role, a 2nd + 5th was a decent return.
  8. Cause he works for RDS? They think they will get scoops if its him. Plus Bertrand Raymond is a racist bigot who believes its not just about the ability to speak French, you must be pure laine
  9. Adam Pelech of the Erie Otters http://lastwordonsports.com/2012/06/04/nhl-draft-prospect-profile-57-adam-pelech/
  10. Not that I've seen.... the ones on NHL.com under each individual player don't seem to have been updated post-combine.
  11. Does a Subban being a workout warrior surprise anyone? Gaunce is also probably getting some tips on how to work out from his brother. This stuff helps an 18 year old immensely.
  12. Putting Cole at LW was a major reason why he failed miserably in Edmonton. One of his big strengths at RW is how he's able to drive wide on a dman and then drive the net, all while protecting the puck, its tougher for him at LW. I actually think Gionta might be easier to move, despite the fact Cole is a LH shot and Gio is a righty. Worst comes to worst, one of the three RWs plays with Eller at ES and Gionta can set up to the left of the goalie on the PP (where he always goes anyway).
  13. Tomas Hyka of the Gatineau Olympiques. or How Paul Holmgren is a screwup when it comes to the NHL CBA, part 4509 http://lastwordonsports.com/2012/06/03/nhl-draft-prospect-profile-56-tomas-hyka/
  14. Succeeded doesnt always mean the cup Barry Trotz and Lindy Ruff are both on their first team Guy Boucher went to game 7 of the ECF John Torterella won a cup with the team that hired him as a rookie Boudreau has a Jack Adams award Look what Paul MacLean did for the Sens
  15. Id take Jagr, we do need another winger on Plek's line Jagr - Pleks - Gio And yes I know one of them would be out of position. They'd adapt
  16. So coaches learn and get better with experience? This isnt news that he's better today than he was two years ago Still he was a pretty good coach out of junior and lets remember he tied us in points for the last playoff spot in 2009
  17. Florida had no talent. Even now when they've added a bunch of players, they still lack talent and got lucky this season. Their gf/ga was worse than the Habs for crying out loud and they won their division. They are a bad team, and I predict they will be out of the playoffs again next season. This was a one year aberration.
  18. Dane Fox - Erie Otters http://lastwordonspo...le-55-dane-fox/ A test for the name theory. Great Dane and Out Foxing an opponent. He's like the TSN headline writer's dream. NHL Superstar via the MOLG system.
  19. Firstly... Columbus was burned by taking Brule, Leclaire and Picard. Does this mean they also won't confidently draft any Canadian kids? Second.... Galchenyuk is American. No, none of those propects are #1 defencemen.
  20. Bertrand Raymond yesterday on RDS says that the Habs can't hire an English coach who has learned to speak French, they must hire a French coach from a French family. Sad to see that Toe Blake and Scotty Bowman wouldn't have been good enough for the old Bigot Raymond.
  21. Matt Murray of Sault Ste. Marie http://lastwordonsports.com/2012/06/01/nhl-prospect-profile-54-matt-murray/
  22. Pacioretty's draft year - 60 games- 63 points Tyler Biggs draft year - 55 games- 31 points
  23. Its rare that a kid who couldnt score at 18 in the USHL suddenly starts scoring. Everyone is looking for the "next Lucic" who magically develops a shot and hands at 19/20 and its rare. The real "next lucic" will be scoring before his draft and taken top 10
  24. I'll grab my Turner Stevenson type in the 4th or 5th round or sign them in Free Agency for 1.5-2 million like a Moen or Prust. No reason to waste high picks on them. I want talent with the high picks. Think about it... 1) If you get a guy with talent who contributes, you have him cost controlled for 7 years before he's a free agent. 2) Guys with talent who make free agency are rare, and you have to overpay to get them, whereas the Moens/Prusts i named above are available. 3) There are these types available later in the draft. I'd rather gamble and lose on getting someone who can actually score, than to take a safe pick for my 3rd or 4th line.
