Just because the team is unlikely to compete for the Cup, doesn't mean that making the playoffs has no value and we should dump everything. Playoff experience for young guys like Patches, Eller, Emelin, Diaz, White, Desharnais, and even Subban and Price has intangible value. I firmly believe that you have to lose before you can win in this league, and there is no substitute to experiencing the pressure cooker of the playoffs. It may not be measureable, but its real IMO. Now balancing the likelihood of making the playoffs, the value of your UFAs in trades, likeliness of re-signing value of the higher pick, these are all factors and something the GM has to assess. I just don't think you can really say that a first or second round loss has zero value to the team.

If your premise is right, and Gauthier has his ass on the line.... then there is little chance that ownership lets him make a drastic move without it being approved by Molson.

Moen has been one of our best players all season and AK sucked tonight. Moen is usually a very defensively responsible guy, but he made one mistake tonight. If he had scored a goal on that shift instead, would you still be questionning his ice time? Its cherry picking stats... there is a different coaching decision that you disagree with every night. Martin's gone....and yet we are still into the minutiae of coaching, and the little individual decisions over the course of a game.

Scotty Bowman learned how to speak French. That should be the only requirement, that the new hire is willing to learn the language; not that they need to know it in advance. It works for the English national football team who hired Fabio Capello, an Italian who had very weak English skills 4 years ago. Now he does pressers in English. The team with the biggest language issue in all of European Soccer is Barcelona. They hired a dutchman in Frank Rijjkard in 2003 and made him learn Catalan. This worked for them too, and Catalan/Spanish in Spain is similar to the French/English thing here.

The breakout continued to be a problem. I'm not liking these new homerun passes all the time. Its not working, and when the pass isn't open we have guys trying to skate it out and being stupid like Campoli last game and Moen this game.

The third line is gonna get a regular shift.... you can't just "cut their ES time". You can't run 2 lines out there. its easy to look at the raw numbers at intermission and say X should play more than Y... much different when you are behind the bench and have to tap the guy on the shoulder seeing when in the period the penalties came, who was tired, who wasn't, etc...

Fact is we only have 2 defencemen capable of top pairing minutes right now; and thats why Subban-Gorges play together
