  1. Let it go. Some guys don't work out with certain organizations. As far as the original topic, which is about one stupid goal that Hainsey scored, I remember Lyle Odelein with a beautiful end to end rush, Bouillon had a great end to end just last week. Every once in a while a guy pulls a play out of his ass. Get used to it. It just so happens when said player USED to play for the Habs, people overreact like they just gave away Bobby Orr. It's Ron freakin' Hainsey people.
  2. I don't think Bulis actually has a whole lot of leverage here. If he were to reject an offer from the Habs, sobeit.
  3. Alright, when did TSN get this bad? First they complain about Higgins stick being illegal, and now they complain because it was "close" when Huet played the puck, the play should've been called a penalty so "Montreal's goal shouldn't have counted". WTF?
  4. JS Aubin...more than likely in to start the period, if you ask me. Not his fault, the Leafs are letting the Habs tee it up. He did screw up on the Dandenault goal, though.
  5. Ah, he's just showing his Leaf colors. Mentioned that there should've been a penalty called on the Tucker play (on Montreal, of course). The other announcer mentioned that Komisarek got up "to make sure there wasn't a splash", inferring he should have gotten a call for diving when Kilger got the retaliation penalty.
  6. I posted something similar in the "Are the Habs bland" thread regarding Euro players. I think the problem isn't that Saku is a captain, he's definitely got the heart for it, but the fact that he's really (IMO) a 2nd line C being asked to play on the 1st, and the Habs aren't talented enough on the wings.
  7. I still think the best course for the team is to actually make the playoffs. Say they're the 16th seed in the , get swept out, then they have, what, the 15th pick? I think if they were bad the rest of the season, missed the playoffs, they would potentially only move up 3-4 spots. (Potential to hit the top ten, but that would require a major losing streak with some teams really putting some wins together). So, the end result is do I want the Habs players to get some playoff experience, have potential (albeit slim) to move forward, or would it be ok if they missed the playoffs. As more than just a casual fan, I want them in the playoffs, and will not be happy if this team can't put it together and get there. Regarding the title to your thread "is a date...what the Habs need, I say yes.
  8. There are some guys that won't evern read a normal newspaper article about themselves, and those have to be fairly PC. The message boards are another story. Me? If I were a playing pro, I wouldn't really waste my time checking them.
  9. I did say very few team, but not every. And I have seen good games as well. Worldwide, I'm sure there is a lot of skill, but there hasn't been the influx of European talent, and the teams have been filled with bottom rung players who in a 21 team league wouldn't be near an NHL rink. Are there hidden gems playing overseas? Yup, and I'm sure some of them are just as happy to be a star there, than come to the NHL and be yet another mediocre player. Regarding the Habs, they've been a boring team (as has the entire Adams division, save Ottawa the past few years) for a long time. I still think they'll stay boring, too. Maybe I'll defect and become a Western Conference fan, I do live in the right time zone for it! Blandest team in hockey? Whoever Lemaire coaches, regardless of the players on the team.
  10. I haven't read the entire thread, but I've seen the saying "coast to coast like butter on toast" twice. :puke: Regarding Hainsey...ah, hindsight is indeed 20-20, eh? Everybody whined about his bad attitude, lack of work ethic, get-this-crap-of-my team...that is until he gets plucked from waivers. The typical lament of Habs fans, lets bash someone until he leaves the team and turn him into some kind of folk hero. Would Hainsey bring depth the Habs could use right now? Sure, but truth is he still wouldn't be top 4 on this team, and that's with the mediocre defense that the Habs have. And not only that, most people were happy (I wasn't) when Dandenault signed with the team. Hainsey wasn't going to work out with the Habs, that was obvious. Deal with it and move on.
  11. Well, the Habs haven't been "exciting" to watch for quite some time. But to be fair, in the watered down Bettman era, very few teams are exciting to watch. I like Begin when he's on the ice, though. And who knows what the youngsters like Chipchura, Higgins, etc will provide in terms of "character' but they seem to be character types of guys, only from what I've read about them. Another interesting thing to note (and by NO means am I a Euro basher), the Habs have a lot of Europeans on the team. Koivu, Kovalev, Bonk, Zednik, Bulis, Perezhogin, Plekanec, Markov, Huet, Aebischer. 6 of our top 9 forwards are Euros.
  12. Face it, the Habs don't have the talent up front current to put in a bucketload of goals. One of the lowest scoring teams in the conference all season, and nothing has really been done to change that. Heck, Kovalev can't even hit the net right now. But then again, it's not just up front, we don't really have the dmen that have a "great" first pass, only have one that has any form of shot from the point (although he more often than not Happy Gilmour's it a few feet off net). I don't know if anyone has noticed in the past few games, but the Habs have been shooting. It's been from horrid angles however. A LOT of times, they're taking bad angle shots that end up missing the net and ultimately clears the zone for the opponent. Ryder seems especially guilty of this. There is rarely a Habs player trying to camp in even the high slot at all. Shots from the point are coming from the boards, not from the center of the ice. In a nutshell: The Habs right now have perimeter players, who unfortunately aren't that strong on the boards. Still need some size/grit added.
  13. He can't put up 20 goals in LA and has hinted at retirement more than once. If the Habs brought him in (laughable at this point) to take a roster spot away from Kostitsyn, Higgins, or Perezhogin, I'd be upset. I'd almost rather have Dagenais in the lineup.
  14. I'm just not as impressed with Daze as a lot of other people seem to be. The guy's another one trick pony, he can shoot, but do little else. He's slow and soft, and quite obviously injury prone with a long history of back woes. I'd rather not have the Habs sign a player that they need to have a contigency plan for once he gets hurt again.
  15. Forgive, me, as I haven't lived back east since the mid-90's. Are the days of "split" coverage gone? I remember when there were always two games I received at my house, the Ottawa based CBC channel always showed the Leafs games (Cole and Neale), and I also received HNIC coverage of Habs games on another channel (Irvin and his every rotating color guys...Bowman, Shutt, etc).
  16. Too many injuries for Daze. He's had a couple of good seasons, and is another big guy that doesn't really play to his size.
  17. Wow, that's surprising. I had assumed that it would be shown on CBC. I've got Centre Ice, and watched the game on MSG, and even they started a half an hour BEFORE the presentation happened. Wild.
  18. Huet has started 14 straight. Play Aebischer.
  19. I had to search through the thread this morning to see if anyone had to suffer through those horrid TB commentators. Wow, the amount of times they screamed about penalties that should have gone to the Habs, and how horrible the calls were against Tampa. EVERY time. It was bad, if that's what TB fans have to deal with for every game, I feel sorry for them. With that kind of drabble, I could easily be a color guy...every whistle, just complain about the officiating. As far as the rest of the game goes, don't quite know what Huet was thinking when he tossed out that short hander to St Louis. Maybe he thought Souray was going to go left instead of right and pick up the puck. That was just bad. Huet didn't look tired, but the Habs sure did. I've always been scared when the Lightning play in Montreal, Lecavalier and St Louis always play a little harder, it seems.
  20. Not referring to the playoffs at all, but with the stretch the Habs (and every team, for that matter) have the next month and a half, I for one am happy that the Habs would potentially split games and have two goalies that I'm comfortable with. If Huet ends up being the number 1 for the playoffs, then it's great we've got Abby to spell him the next few weeks. As far as next season goes, if the Habs are able to split about 50/30, for one there's healthy competition for the nets, and our goalies aren't completely shell shocked come playoff time. Take a look at the Habs in the late 80s, Roy played around 45/50 games while Hayward played 35/40. Good split if you ask me.

    Question

I have yet to go to the Bell Centre, but I imagine they've gotta be the same as in the Forum. Suddenly, I want a hot dog!!
  22. I'm nervous about this one folks. I'm expecting Huet to look tired and the Habs to go down 4-2.
  23. There may very well be games Gainey dresses 7 dman and rotates Dandenault to a forward line. I don't see it happening often, though.
