  1. Please don't forget what got the whole thing started as far as President Bush was concerned ... the unprecedented, premeditated, unprovoked attack on the thousands of innocents in the World Trade Center on September 11th.
  2. Typical. Those living outside the US are glad they are outside - but what you don't realize is that most living in the US wouldn't want to live anywhere else! And frankly, I don't blame them - the US is a great nation. I find this topic funny in that President Bush is being considered dishonest - while his predecessor was a proven liar! Personally, I look at politics like a game of poker - I expect players to bluff and even lie to support the bluff - but never cheat. Mainly because the cards they hold represent the interests of the people who elected them. The President may need to bluff now and then and not tell the whole story - but the question is, are his interests in winning the hand for the electorate .... or for himself? President Bush has made some poor choices - most likely in the evaluation of the data assembled, and probably didn't react any differently than President Clinton or Al Gore or John Kerry would have done (I seem to recall President Clinton ordering the bombing of an African nation! - was that to get the news off of his sex scandle???). I don't see President Bush looking out for his own legacy or interests in the same way as I remember President Clinton looking out for HIS own legacy and interests! But thank God we live in Canada where we have a Prime Minister who would never allow a scandle to rock his government! (hmmm HRDC sponsorship scandle anyone???) No - he won't let a silly thing like that to shake him any! Damn those Yankees! Cuz our government & leaders are soooooo much better!
  3. Go Theo Go!!! Bounce back with a vengeance! Habs are solid on the road - well coached - they'll be ready for this one.
  4. is there no chance that Danis gets the start tonight? when is he next scheduled?
  5. why should we expect Bobby to care for the game - he only cares about his team. i just hope Bettman and Campbell and anyone else with any influence keep holding the line on the enforcement of the current rules. it is a much better game and they need to think about the league not Bobby and the Pillars.
  6. I think this can go in this thread ... In the standings column on this site, it has the Maples in 2nd, the Habs in 3rd. Do the Maples win the tie-breaker? I thought the tie-breaker was whoever had the most wins? Anyone know for sure about this?
  7. c'mon guys - give me some good news! i wanna hear that it's 3-3 at least!
  8. I'm loving the way even yahoo! is reporting the Maples to be the whiners they are! http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=ap-n...ov=ap&type=lgns
  9. I'm guessing the Maples think they won the cup by demolishing the Thrashers yesterday - they'll be overconfident and ripe for the picking. 9-1 yesterday is good news for a habs victory today!
  10. Jeff Paul??? He's not so tough. It would take him 5 minutes to realize he'd been hit and that he's supposed to tag his offender with a left hook!
  11. soooooo ... where do you get you're hockey news from (other than here?) seriously, i'm in the GTA and i'd like to know! I don't go for the boycott thing you do - but I can't say I enjoy the hockey talk either.
  12. Of course we all want to see the habs at #1, but I think #2 is a bit optimistic still. I would be satisfied with the improvement if we ended the year as #8 or #9 in the NHL, hopefully with home ice in the 1st round of the playoffs and then lets see what happens. I just think it's too soon to be considered as one of the top 5 teams in the NHL ..... BUT, I sure would love to hang out in the top five all season! Makes it so much easier to live and be happy in the GTA that way!
  13. BTW - don't worry about paying Dallas the 1st round pick & top player - after simply one trade with him you'll get more way more than that in return! Dallas is nice that way!!!
  14. i'm sure it isn't to late to join - keep applying - the Commish works his tail off for this league, he's probably busy. He'll get back to you if your application is in order - but apply again - can't hurt! It'd be great to see all the teams taken! I'm only in for about a month and - I'm lovin' it! oops, McD reference - hmmm, I'm hungry - GTG
  15. I happen to like Swarski - but you've got to keep him talking sports in general or basketball. Baseball or hockey specific questions and he goes into what he's paid to do - be a homer. He knows his Basketball - and he'll rip the Raptors, cuz he KNOWS the Raptors - he can't rip the other sports teams the same cuz he can only regergitate (sp?) what his colleagues said last hour. And - to keep my post on topic .... HEALY IS AN IDIOT!!!!! Pretentious passion - total NHLPAer and Maples Trumpet - I have no use for him whatsoever. [Edited on 2005/10/11 by revvvrob]
  16. I really wish they'd scrap the OTL point - and even the whole point system altogether and simply go with W and L, more like baseball. You win - you're in the playoffs, you lose - you play golf. This shouldn't terribly disturb the history of the game - we remember the habs for their 8 loss season, not how many ties there were that year. Winning percentage is a much truer indication of a successful season.
  17. I could see 12 and 5 happening, but 5 is sooooo much the past, i doubt it. And 12 is possible as the C of the great habs run in the late 70s - although he would be more of a sentimental choice than deserving. But i definitely disagree with 22 and 20 - no way Mahovlich gets in - not even close - and i'm still not sure why 22 is even in the Hall of Fame! Shutt was a very good player, but i wish the Hall only had the best, not the very good. I still say Dryden & Roy have a better chance than Shutt, Geoffrion & Cournoyer - heck even Savard & Gainey have more of a shot than Mahovlich! It's time to honor the teams of the 70s - it will be done. [Edited on 2005/10/3 by revvvrob]
  18. Even if there were an all-star game - i really doubt the Habs would be THAT well represented (Kovalev, Souray, Theodore). It would certainly mean we got off to a great start this year!
  19. I'm guessing 19, 29, 33 - and if 29 shouldn't be there, then I'd have to pick between 18, 23. would Bob do 23???
  20. Subject: Custody Battle Ruling Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2005 19:05:48 -0400 A seven year old boy from Montreal was at the centre of a courtroom drama in an Quebec Superior Courthouse this morning when he challenged a court ruling over who should have legal custody of the juvenile. The boy has a history of being beaten repeatedly by both parents and the judge had previously awarded custody to the boy's aunt. The boy confirmed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and refused to live there. When the judge then suggested that he be placed with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they beat him more severely than anyone. The judge, in an unprecendented ruling, dramatically allowed the boy, in spite of his youth and obvious inexperience, to make his own choice as to who should have legal guardianship over him. In front of a packed and cheering courtroom this morning, custody was subsequently granted to the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS as the boy stated his firm belief that they are, in point of fact, not capable of beating anyone.
