  1. And Jetsniper puts the issue to bed. Like a pro. Bacchus: I find your opinions generally offensive and disgusting, and I think your bias (perhaps not quite hatred, but close) against Americans is obvious, but deeply rooted, so I'm disengaging from that line of discussion. There are some shades of truth in what you said, specifcally about American's production/consumption/waste habits, and taking the compliments with the complaints, but apart from that, I don't think arguing anything further with you would be productive for anybody. And btw, to emphasize one thing, I didn't vote for George Bush. (Actually, that fact was documented by the associated press as luck would have it. Good luck finding the article. I think it appeared in the San Jose Mercury News.) I agree here, except for the ties and the new unis. In my opinion, there should be a winner and a loser. 1 pt. for OT loss, 3 for a win, and 0 for reg. loss. (This way wins are more valuable and teams will play for the 2 extras.) As far as the uniforms go, I like them except for breaking up the traditional uniform designs. The habs bar across the middle and the Leafs, Bruins, Red Wings etc... uniform designs should be sacred.
  2. I agree. Expecting everything to be cited to a credible source is outlandish, but stating opinions as fact isn't acceptable either. This nonsense, "blame America for everything bad" mentality is offensive and untrue. That's one person's opinion, and that's fine, but I'm proud of America and it's hockey tradition, and I will stand up for it when baseless, arrogant, and offensive claims are made. "America is ruining hockey" is essentially what was said, and I am calling that person out. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, and I am just as entitled to disagree and ask them to back it up as long as I do so in a civil and respectful manner. (At least those are the rules of HWL as I understand them. I never saw a rule that I had to be anti-American in my opinions.)
  3. I'm sorry, but I really take offense to the "only to please americans" bit. I'd like to see at least some evidence out of you (Yes, you Marky and Komi, I'm calling you out to back up what you're saying.) that all of the Canadian folks around the NHL were on one side of this jersey re-design issue and American folks were on the other. (Hint: You won't find any, and HWL is not exactly a neutral group from which to gather opinions.) It's probably nice to sit in Canada and blame all Americans for everything bad that's happened to hockey in the last 3 decades, but that's not nearly the reality. Just because there are fewer and fewer Americans who are ashamed of our political stance over the past 6-16 years and fewer and fewer Americans who are willing to have a spine and protect this country, doesn't give you license to blame us for everything in hockey (and politics) you don't like and make under-the-breath little quips about how terrible the United States is. Take a little responsibility for "Canada's game" and don't be so quick to jump on the defeatist bandwagon of "The terrible Americans made us do it." That's garbage. If you're going to take pot-shots, back it up. Sorry if that's a bit strong, people need to take responsibility for what they're saying.
  4. It's Condoleeza. I agree with you, but disagree with your reasoning. Women have been leaders in other developed countries, so it doesn't follow logically that some outside world-wide force holds them out of political leadership positions. I'd love to see Condi run, but she has the W cloud over her head, and Hillary Clinton is tough to put in the race because her image still needs a lot of work, and there's a pocket of the country that will not vote for her and won't consider it. She has become a darling of the liberal-slanted, east-coast-bias media machine. I'd be interested to see how she fares in primaries in the midwest... she could easily pull a Howard Dean and tank. Obama in '08.
  5. Colorado -- You've got nothing but indoor lacrosse and arena football!! Playoff system in 2011. That's when the TV deal with the BCS runs out. (Then, of course, the rose bowl is still with ABC.)
  6. You think that Malkin, Crosby, Fleury and the rest of those guys will all fit on the same roster in 3 years? There's no way this team is going to be that dominant. Money will tear that team to shreds, compliments of free agency. My angle here is that instead of the Minnesota Wild, I would much rather get to watch two of the three or four best young players in the game regularly in a game that matters to me. I see where you're coming from as far as competitiveness. But I think Wolski, Stastny, Svatos (maybe), Liles, Leopold (assuming one of those two doesn't get traded), Richardson (despite his recent demotion) will be a part of a good solid team in coming years. Boychuk is in the AHL still, and we have Ryan Stoa among others in the AHL. I think those would be awesome games next season and the season after. As we all know, though, the avalanche need to get a grip on their goalie situation. PTG: Point well taken, I respectfully disagree.
  7. First, there was an excellent point made about the convenience of travel for the Canadian Northwest teams. (Another quote block in this post seemed redundant.) The Chiefs are AFC......the Rams are NFC...... I understand selling out games between St.L and K.C., but for the team to succeed in the long term, I don't think there's a lot of support for the idea that they MUST be in the same division. Shortcat is my new favorite. That's all in the article too. (The info about the rent, not Shortcat being my favorite.) I would kill to see those guys in "The Can" (Pepsi Center) 4 times a year. As long as we have to put up with this ridiculous schedule, why not bring in some of the most exciting players on skates? Link updated for freshness. 6 a.m. EST.
  8. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=190841&hubname=nhl Kansas City isn't messing around, the offer they made for the penguins is legitimate. I don't think Pittsburgh is going to pony up the resources to keep the penguins. I think this would be the first former stanley cup champions to be moved. (Since the official beginning in 1918 of course, not including the Maroons and the Wanderers and the St. Pats and those teams.) i'd be excited to to see a team in K.C. Probably means that Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and company would be in the N.W. division with my avalanche. Columbus to the Atlantic, Minnesota to the Central, K.C. to the Northwest. Crosses fingers. **Link updated as the story changed. Apparently Pittsburgh is digging their heels in too. This should be an interesting story if nothing else.**
  9. Joe Sakic and Paul Stastny. Stastny will be a big deal in a few years, not Crosby or Ovechkin level of course, but he'll remind a lot of people of....Peter and Anton Stastny. haha.
  10. Fedorov wore white Nikes several seasons ago.
  11. Not once have I argued that Islamic radicals have been the only militant group in the history of the world, nor have I argued that they have been the most brutal. The initial assertion was that Saddam's hanging would cause civil unrest in Iraq. I sarcastically pointed out the fact that there has been "civil unrest" since before Christ in that region and that to say that this singular event would cause "unrest" that would otherwise be non-existent would be ridiculous. I concede that there will be some negative reaction, but there's a negative reaction to every political action, nobody pleases everybody all the time. But there would be unrest and bombings and killing in this region whether Saddam was hanged when he was, released, or if he was exiled to an island. JLP: Point well taken.
  12. Yes, these people. These islamic radicals residing in the middle-east. I'm not sure what sort of insinuation you are trying to make, but it's obvious exactly who I'm talking about. And KoZed, these people have been unusually militant.
  13. Civil unrest......like, oh, the last 2200 years?!!! It's popular to think that we've created all of this nonsense in Iraq, and President Baboon is resposible for some, but these people have been throwing rocks at each other and blowing themselves up since the rock was invented.
  14. As much as I agree with you, the DA was just using this case to get the black vote in his re-election campaign. Unfortunately, he succeeded. Awful miscarriage of justice, and, in my opinion, downright racist. If the three offenders were black and the prostitute was white, the discrimination at work would have been different, though the outcome might have been the same. The fact that the kids were white and the stripper was black has everything to do with how this case was handled. As I said before, miscarriage of justice. Expect to see the kidnap and sexual offense charges go away too.
  15. Well, that's good. Because I proposed putting KC in the central (with the Blues).....and Dallas isn't in the same division as Minnesota as it stands right now......so all is well. I'm glad we agree. B)
  16. Pittburgh is going to move. It won't be to a Canadian City (as much as it should be.) The team will end up in Portland or KC. The NHL shout NOT reallign the divisions, just revise the playoff system. Here's my ideal scenario: PIT to KC/POR. Columbus to the Atlantic Division. (As funny as that sounds.) IF the new team is in KC: Just plug them into Columbus's place in the central division. If the new team is in Portland: Put Portland in the Northwest with CAL, VAN, COL, and EDM. Put Minnesota in Columbus's place in the central. Reduce the schedule to about 74 games, and have each team play in each city at least once. Playoffs: The top 4 point earning teams in the conference get spots seeded 1-4 by points. The next 4 point earners play a best of 3 series 5 v. 8 and 6 v. 7 for the bottom two spots. The #1 and #2 seeds get a bye on the first round, the others play 3 v. 6 and 4 v. 5. #1 plays the winner of 4 v. 5, and #2 plays the winner of #3 v. #6. Very similar to the NFL system, and while I don't agree that this is "americanizing," I think that this system guarantees better matchups in the later rounds (and that brings several different advantages), and makes it tougher for there to be no-name, "how'd they get here" stanley cup finals matchups. There is more motivation to get into the top seeds in the regular season. Another idea that probably wouldn't be too popular, but it would be unique, revolutionary, and fun: Take the top 8 point getters from East and West and seend them 1-16 based on points and play a straight bracket or a re-shuffling system starting with 1-16, 2-15, 3-14 ... 7-10, 8-9. The travel would be hideous for a matchup like Anaheim v. Montreal or something, but it would be cool.
  17. Colorado-Minnesota should be in there, because in 3 years, they'll be the only legit teams in that division. Honorable mention: Calgary Flames. Also, Columbus is more legit than this map gives them credit. They are the San Jose Sharks, just 5 years later. Some of these don't make sense. Nashville - Calgary? Since when? NYI - Leafs? They have both been great.....but never in the same decade. Why not NYR - Boston? I think this is one of the matchups that has occured the most in NHL history.....and an arrow would fit okay. lol. B)
  18. I've seen both Ozo and Theo pass through Colorado, and between the two, you want Ozolinsh any day because he presents a 4th offensive threat. Theo presents another threat to team chemistry. The thing with Oz....you need a solid defenseman to play with him who can take a 2 or 3 on 1 at any given time. Thank god for Adam Foote. Don't sign Oz. He's got too many holes to be worth it.
  19. I'm an avalanche fan, and I'm sure most habs fans will enjoy this short article. Leopold returns to the ice, Brisebois heads to the bench. http://www.denverpost.com/avalanche/ci_4763687
  20. Nobody. And that makes one of you. Pocket Rocket girl might make a second.
  21. Mats Naslund Super Fan Perhaps the best username yet.
  22. And we wonder why these boards are mostly dudes..... great game guys. Hello Pocket Rocket, welcome.
  23. I won't take any sides in the COL-VAN battle going on on here. But being at Pepsi Center for the 4-1 Wojtek Wolski Show was awaesome. Dare I say that Theo made a few stellar saves in that game?!!! B)
  24. We loved it. How did you like the cup he won in Vancouver?...... B)
