  1. I'm also thinking that the possibility exists that Plekanec replaces Ribeiro if he isn't up to par. Gotta remember Ribs and Ryder only have one good year under their belts. They are not proven players yet. Good thing is the Habs now own plenty of insurance policies who can step up if anyone doesn't perform. Viva la depth!
  2. What he should get is BELTED by the next french canadian "who can't back anything up" who happens by. You know, to show him perspective and humility for the bettering of his person:)
  3. Would someone be kind enough to post the scoring summary? I'm at work and don't have a tv in my office (yet:))......too lazy to go through 8 pages of posts to figure it out too.
  4. Good point Napier. I don't know if he is still banned from the AHL (my comment was that he doesn't have to clear waivers if sent down). Wasn't it a one year North America ban? In which case he could play in Hamilton.
  5. Perezhogin is the only one of these guys that can be sent down without clearing waivers. My feeling is that unless he really impresses over Dags, Perezhogin will be sent down (to be called up if Dags doesn't produce).
  6. I guess it all boils down to that ultimate monster.....a black european job stealing mediocre player who wears a visor. Lord behold! I have created a monster:) Leafs, are you serious? I was being sarcastic with my post. Thought, if nothing else, that would be clear form my "That is fair I guess as we all know that Ontario born visor wearers (as well as non visor wearing Quebec born players) don't make clean, legal big hits" statement. Thought it was clear that I meant that his reasoning was, well, not reasoned.
  7. Oh no! What's Pleky doing with a Senators' jersey on????? You guys in Kladno know something we don't?
  8. He doesn't seem to have a problem with Quebec born players. His issue seems to be limited to Quebec born players who wear visors. That is fair I guess as we all know that Ontario born visor wearers (as well as non visor wearing Quebec born players) don't make clean, legal big hits on players during preseason. I see his point. A well thought out statement by Avery.
  9. Think Sundstrom will be on the team. Room will be made by either sending Perezhogin back down (he doesn't have to clear waivers) or getting rid of Dags. In my mind two major battles remain and those are Perezhogin/Dagenais and Streit/Hainsey. Danis could also still lose his post if he performs poorly. Otherwise I agree with your post.
  10. Think the Habs always thought he had a good chance to make the team. Also, he would have to clear waivers to be sent down and that won't happen. Think Hossa, Plekanec and Higgins are locks to make the team. Perezhogin can be sent down without clearing waivers. He's been good, but not dominant. He'll have to knock Dags off the team to make it and that remains to be seen. I like how the two will be playing on the same line again tonight.
  11. There is a question. Danis hasn't locked the position yet. The Habs WILL get somebody else if they do not have confidence in him. I agree that circumstances give Danis a huge edge to start the season in Montreal but he hasn't played well enough to "close the question". Tonight will go a long way towards determining who will start the season as the backup (if the Habs have confidence that Danis will be acceptable in his role he will stay, but if he doesn't win that minimal confidence -and the jury is still out- they will look elsewhere).
  12. Roy was loaded up on 'roids? That's news to me, tell us more. It's a good thing that the time bomb didn't go off while he was in Colorado.
  13. Didn't the Habs coaching staff say that they were going to make significant cuts prior to the away game against Boston. Tonight's "young" lineup could be a final evaluation of severals players prior to them being cut (Kosts, Locke, Ferland and even Latendresse).
  14. The Habs would either have to clear up cap space or forfeit their cap wiggle room (wisely kept in the event of injuries or trade deadline moves) to bring in a guy like Biron. They don't need to do that to acquire what is essentially a temporary backup.
  15. I think I like my 97, so to make things interesting I'll offer a case of beer to the winner (freight and custom charges not included:)) I'll even make that a year's unlimited supply if Shortcat gets it right. This way if I get it right I'll be buying myself a case.....doh!
  16. Nah, they'll still be last. I've heard Semin will be staying in Russia this year too (guess he wanted to win a few games this season).
  17. Anybody care to take a shot in the dark midway through preseason games and put forth their predictions as to the Habs point total for the upcomming season. End of season bragging rights are on the table. I'll put my prediction at 97 pts.:hlogo:
  18. 28 here. Not married / no kids (got a dog a few months back figure that will buy me some time with the gf:)) Born and raised in Montreal. Lived in England for a few years. PMAC, how is live like in Dubai? A headhunter contacted me about a possible move there a few months back. Didn't really consider it after a bit of research. The tax free income would have been nice though. Trully great site you guys have here. Discovered it last month when I regot hockey crazy with the free agent market. Been popping in throughout my work days since:) Great stuff.
  19. At the begining of camp, Gainey had said that the Habs would evaluate the young goalies to determine if any of them could land the backup position until Huet's return or else he would have to look elsewhere for a backup. With today's cuts it seems clear (if there was any doubt before) that Danis is the guy that could fit that position. From what I've seen so far, he hasn't impressed much but has not been horrible. What are your thoughts? Do the Habs need to get another backup til December/January? I personally think that Danis can do an acceptable job for the few games he will be called upon to start and that there is no need to spend a draft pick or a prospect to land a temporary backup. He had a good year in Hamilton last year and could further develop with a few NHL starts.
  20. In my opinion neither player is anything to write home about. Think Hainsey probably has the edge as he'd have to clear waivers (but then again Streit might prefer to return to being a star in Switzerland than go to Hamilton). In either case, I think we are talking about very mediocre NHL level players.
  21. I also would have liked to have seen Price stay til the end of camp and take part in another game, but I understand the need for playing Theo and Danis as often as posible. Thought there would have been more cuts today. Guess that will wait until after tomorrow's game.
  22. Thanks for that Shotcat. I certainly don't remeber Lafleur's first 3 seasons! What I meant is that a great player may not be that great right away in the NHL......he may require some time to develop. I get the feeling lots of people are expecting lots of things immediately for Crosby and probing closely for signs that he is a bust when in fact he may need some time but still end up great.
  23. They should treat it under a new stat column for shootout goals cause that's what they are. This way these goals would not be "overlooked" nor would they be equated to regualr play goals, which they are not. Anything else would distort the stats.
  24. I've heard Witt is a horrible team player. Venim for the locker room. Anybody else hear this? (can't recall where I read it, but it came up when he first asked the Caps to trade him)
  25. Yeah Bourret got trashed by the Trashers coach for showing up to camp out of shape. Not the way to make first impressions on the NHL. I think quite a few teams are bitting their nails for overlooking Latendresse in the last draft. As for Crosby, I believe he will be an incredible player. People should lay off the pressure a bit on the kid. He's got lots of talent, determination and maturity. He'll trive, just let him have some breathing space. Anybody remember Lafleur during his first 3 seasons with the Habs?
