  1. 5 of HW's writers offer up their take on the deal and not everyone's for it. http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2397
  2. So instead of taking a 1st round pick plus another high level prospect for Hemsky (which is the noted asking price), they'll just take Weber and Kostitsyn, plus we get the uber-useless goon in MacIntyre? If that was all it'd take for Hemsky, he'd have been dealt a long time ago...
  3. I noted earlier, I don't see it as a 4th for Sopel - I see it as Maxwell for Sopel and the 4th for Dawes. Defencemen are going at a high premium this month, even the depth guys have to fetch some semblance of high-ish value. Maxwell will get a shot with Atlanta and evidently they really like him so that's their version of high-ish value. As for Dawes, having a forward with some NHL experience that isn't subject to re-entry waivers may come in handy if the Habs get struck with the injury bug (or make a 2-1 trade), that's worth a 4th rounder to me, especially when he's restricted next season (not a rental). As for the 4-Recall rule, you're right, it does come in play after the deadline.
  4. It is official, he is out for the season. So add $3,833,333 to $1,844,267 and the Habs will have $5,677,600 in acquisition space...provided he is placed on LTIR.
  5. Official - Spacek's season is over.
  6. I actually thought that was the right call, I had it written down on my note as soon as it went over the glass before it was even called. Also, seeing how there's quite a few people on, the chatroom is always open...hint, hint. (I can only come around at the intermission but that's just me.)
  7. I can only stand so much name butchering...at least Joe Bowen has gotten the Habs' names right so far.
  8. Hamilton still needs enough bodies to ice a team and if they want to let the prospects have a playoff run, they need about 2 more Dawes-type players before all is said and done. He's simply an AHL replacement for now, but I would also submit that he moves himself to the front of the line if there are injuries up front that warrant a callup.
  9. Poor Moen - tries to do the right thing by standing up for his teammate, gets stopped before he can do anything...and still gets a penalty. Rough period for 2 of the 3 teams out there tonight, unfortunately it's the team in white doing well so far. A suggestion for those who think CBC is full of Leaf homers...try watching the SNET Ontario feed, you haven't seen homers until you watch them.
  10. Cory Stillman dealt to Carolina for Ryan Carter and a 5th rounder. I have to admit, that seems a little low, considering Carter was on waivers (with Anaheim) earlier this season. Also, from earlier today, Dan Ellis dealt to Anaheim for Curtis McElhinney. That precipitated Smith from the Lightning on re-entry; if he clears, McElhinney will be AHL bound.
  11. His cap hit is higher than what the Habs have left and he has a total of 5 goals this year and 1 goal since December 9th. He'll clear waivers and be non-tendered in the offseason, then I might look at him for a six-figure salary.
  12. Actually, he had it right. Picard, though a UFA this offseason, is an RFA this one.
  13. That's two trades...by the way, Neil is hurt now so his chances of getting dealt may have dropped some.
  14. Thanks, it's been a long couple of hours to say the least. In no particular order, this is what has been posted/updated: - Trade write-up - Player profiles - Capsheet update, including the main page figures - Cap page - Waiver page - Contract limit update (2nd post in the CBA thread) - Organizational depth chart - Side menus in the players/prospects section - Plus other things I literally can't remember right now, ouch. I will say this much, as much as I enjoy trades, my head will appreciate when March 1st hits.
  15. Sign him in the offseason to a league minimum contract...
  16. I just noted this in the trade thread actually, but the figures I cite are full season ones. Makes it easy to compare who is affordable that way. Frankly, I agree on Eller, especially if they make a move for a forward later on.
  17. For simplicity, I'm citing full year figures, easier to do so when a team is in LTIR. They had 4.1 mil roughly, Sopel makes 2.3 and change. Subtract the two to get 1.8. Beats doing what you did and breaking down a players' remaining salary.
  18. Who gets dealt/re-assigned to make up the difference since the Habs couldn't absorb Kovalev straight up? Eller barely fits, but that would have locked the roster in to the point where no further callups could be made.
  19. Ben Scrivens is backing up Reimer right now.
  20. I don't want to give up on Weber just yet, he's been pretty solid. Though if he's sent to Hamilton, I wouldn't complain simply for the sake of the Bulldogs. I've got the write-up of the trade plus profiles up on HW now. Also, with lots of us online, may be worth popping over to the chatroom...
  21. This quote would be my guess. Sopel has had playoff success and fits the shutdown role, allowing Subban to play with someone not named Gill. I'd also suspect it's Maxwell for Sopel, 4th for Dawes. New blueline, sans Spacek, stands at Hamrlik - Wisniewski, Gill - Sopel, Mara - Subban, Picard - Weber. 8 active D, could see Picard swapped for a mid-pick later on.
  22. ~$1.8 M remaining; if Spacek is out long-term, his cap hit could be added to that. Capsheet updated, link on main page.
  23. Yep to both. Perhaps they'll rekindle their chemistry in Hamilton.
  24. Dawes merely replaces Maxwell in Hamilton since Maxwell was their top active point getter.
  25. For Maxwell and a 4th. Working on the HW write up now.
