  1. Watch for Koivu... unless he has been playing hurt or injured, he will come out of the gate on a mission tonight. He is not the most offensive star in the league for sure, but he has heart and character and pride in his responsibility to the great tradition of the habs. After this slump and subsequent dressing room talk Koivu will hold everybody on the team accountable for their play, he will do this the only way any great leader knows how... by example. Good luck to all the boys tonight (secretly hoping that Jokinen isnt on the plane when the panthers leave mtl!) go :hlogo: go!
  2. I remember people saying in 1993 that all we needed was a big trade and we could get to the cup...we rode it out and things happened. the time is now..for the habs to gel as a team and develop the talent from within..do that and we have a chance to win EVERY season
  3. Do you remember PROSET hockey cards...they were the really big fad for about 2 days in the early nineties somehow...now they are worthless. So as the owner of several hundred of them we started burning effigy cards of opposing teams or players(not as many of those left) before the game. it doesnt seem to work that well but firing up one of those bruin cards always puts me in the mood for some good habs hockey.
  4. I cant watch the game and am reall upset..just got called into work..heres hoping for a classic and ill be tuned in for sure to kovalevs return on tuesday... Tonight is the beginning of a great resurgence for the team..i can feel it. TONIGHT THE WILD...TOMORROW THE CUP
  5. The only thing I forgot is a win against the GD senators.. if I have to hear one more johnny-come-lately sens fan tell me about how they keep beating montreal.. i am going to personally go down there and iron things out..with my tire iron
  6. I voted fire him because I am getting sick and tired of all the inconsistency he has shown in his style..there is no method to his madness. Players are not being held accountable for their mistakes or lack of effort and those that deserve are not getting their rewards. That being said I like the man and think he could ( i hope ) turn it around.. Under no circumstances would I prefer Jarvis. The only way this move would make sense is if you could bring in someone who is a true and instant upgrade over Julien. The name TED NOLAN jumps instantly to mind.. but this can only happen in the off season.
  7. A move does not NEED to be made here... I have to agree (like usual) with LEAFS SUCK on this one. One other thing though..this becomes a great deal if by aquiring Sykora we can dump bonk, Ribiero and/or Dags Its that whole addition by subtraction thing
  8. New Jersey DOES need to move him though... what I see happening is they take a long shot and hope someone takes him on waivers..smart teams do that..if not they package him with an asset that a team would actually want in return for a prospect or draft pick
  9. New Jersey has got a track record of not making stupid decisions.. they might know something about mcgillis that we don't.. I would not at all be surprised if millbury grabs him and then trades away Niinimaa for more depth at forward. New Jersey is not just clearing salary here... he has been benched for many games now and if your team has a losing record you don't have the luxury of benching a "good physical defenseman with a good shot". The only reason is that they consider him a liability or that he is poison in the room...two very good reasons for us not to pick him up. Considering the salary space he would have to be a serious upgrade on streit and I doubt that he is.
  10. Or better yet do as was so politely suggested and have a PRIVATE conversation if you need to iron things out. On a topic actually related to this thread the Gazette mentions this morning that it is next to a sure thing that Sykora will be moved very soon and they cite the Rangers as the most likely destination.
  11. On the... day of Christmas Gainey got for me... 12 Hits from Begin #11 staying healthy 10 minutes of ice time for perezhogin 9 games for kastitsyn (more and it will count against ufa) #8 gives tucker a concussion +7 rating for a defenceman 6 power plays 5 minute major to Theodore for beating up avery 4 lines rotating instead of two 3 periods a game..also not two 2 GAA for theo 1 pass from dagenais but since it wont happen stick him in a pear tree or a partridge or whatever just dont let him play for the habs anymore! Merry Christmas
  12. hey...christmassy....nice job..Habs 3 Wild 1 Koivu 3 assists on zhogs 3 goals, Rolston 1 shorthanded beauty that exposes ribs and dags for the hacks that they are..Gainey trades them for Rolston (most under rated player in league)..
  13. I love the idea of addition by subtraction..it is accountability by action... get rid of ribs and dags ( they both are young and have small salaries..maybe we can trick vancouver into thinking dagenais is a power forward prospect) there is some skill there in ribs..and size in dags I am sure that some team close to the cap and looking to dump would see this as an ideal situation for both teams...would like to see that happen in pittsburgh now that Therrien is there maybe for palfy?
  14. Ribs probably mistranslated Sophomore and thought that he should play 'more soft' this year.. he is a disgrace and a bad exaample for the rookies.. i would love to see him gone for an upgraded veteran. the great thing about having a young team with lots of up and coming talent is that you can trade for a guy that will be ufa soon and it doesnt hurt you because one of your prospects needed the roster spot anyway. Bertuzzi would be nice..but wont happen..can you imagine how HE would handle the media pressure here after just going through this whole steve moore thing.. i think hed rather be in nashville where no one gives a damn about hockey.
  15. well said..if they rush him and he re-injures i would lose some serious faith in gainey
  16. that would be sweet.. i dont know that much about sykora but if we could dump zednik ribs or dags i dont give a rats arse if he drives the freakin zamboni or works the t-shirt gun.
  17. yes..price was a solid pick...there may be some interesting options in retrospect but brule will not be one..marc staal would be the only regret? i see. Price however is a sure thing and rollie melanson is a goaltending freakin guru and im sure they would have consulted him before making the pick. Good teams do their research..go into the draft with a list of the most talented players up and down and when it is their turn they take the highest level of player still available regardless. This is what leads to things like perezhogin kastitsyn komisarek plekanec chipchura latendresse and price..not bad Other wise a team could..lets say..spend years of great draft picks trying to get a power forward and therby screwing over the depth of a once stoiried franchise throughout the entire 90's..hypothetically at least BOTTOM LINE: there is a good reason your opinions are read here and not reported about in the sports section like gainey and andre savards..they are proven professionals who had a really good pick fall into their laps..do you really think they would have picked price unless they REALLY wanted him and dont you think that they probably are a much better judge of hockey talent than you. If not give them a call ..Im sure they are waiting by the phone to get your input.
  18. Teams will always give their french-canadian ( i think all teams have at least one) goalie a chance to play if the game is in montreal.
  19. they also know that their team will not be hugely dominant like last time..giving guys like brassard and esposito a chance to make the team gives them amore experienced and dangerous squad next time around.. and since it will probably be sutter again tapped for the job....well 2 golds and a 3rd of 4th finish in 3 years is better than a gold and two bronzes. n'est pas
  20. he is obviously struggling through injury and the tolls of taking a season off
  21. sorry "price and chipchura"not latendresse...chipchura would have had every chance to make the team last year..this year he or barker will wear the C..he is the prototype of what a guy like sutter looks for in a player..especially on a team that will be depending on its scoring from mostly very young and inexperienced players
  22. oh and as for price and Latendresse...Price did well against the russians as well..no goals against..and sutter is all too aware of how shit poor his tri-city team is..he will give him a chance to prove himself in camp..he is one of only a handful of players with international experience on the tryout list
  23. latendresse suffered for a while as all players returning from NHL ususally do...he elevates for big games though..dont think sutter didnt see the russia challenge games. unless he is a total ghost in camp he is alock.
