  1. Hahaha. Well if he was Swedish, I'd probably be a Sweden fan instead of Finland. Too bad, eh?
  2. How does that not surprise me? I swear, all Russians are uber hawt. :king: And then there's the accent going on too...
  3. I agree with you about the Fellowship, it was my favourite as well. I just felt that it seemed the most magical and the other two seemed to stray away from that. I think my favourite scenes were when Saruman began building his army of Uruk-hai and when the Fellowship arrived in Lothlorien. As for the characters, Frodo was handsdown my favourite character in the books, but I wasn't nearly as sympathetic to him in the movies. I really enjoyed Aragorn and Boromir though, I thought both were excellent choices.
  4. Do you feel better now? Got your ego all nice and pumped up? Is Koivu a bonafide superstar? No. Do people regularly go around claiming he is one? No. Is Koivu a damn good player anyways? Certainly. Does Koivu put up points? He isn't the prolific scorer he could have been (thanks to numerous injuries), but he's good for 70 points a season. Is he horrible at hockey? Definitely not. He's a proven NHLer and hell of a lot better than you'll ever be. Is he a terrible leader? While I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, he leads by example and is a warrior on the ice. He's especially clutch in big games. I really like Koivu, he's one of my favourite players in the game. I think it's really gutless of you to come onto an internet forum and flog a player like the way you just did. You didn't prove anything about Koivu, but I think you really said something important about yourself as a person.
  5. You mean Toronto isn't the capital city of Canada? And I'm pretty sure that most high schools offer geography, which allows interested students to get a taste of it. Not to mention that Social Studies (what history is called in BC up to Grade 11) incorporates geography into the curriculum.
  6. Anaheim might be interested too if Niedermayer retires.
  7. I don't like how the logo appears as if it's just a "screenprint." Not a fan of the white stripey things on the side either.
  8. Wow, this is so bloody ridiculous. Coming from someone with a strong background in humanities and an equally strong personal dislike for science and math, I would definitely have to agree that science and math should be the two areas most emphasized in high school. After that I would say English and then history. Don't get me wrong, history is definitely interesting and I would say it's important to know where you're coming from, but at the same time, it's like a luxury. To be a good public citizen as PTG put it, you really only need a broad, thus shallow, understanding of your "immediate history" (ie. provincial/national). And I think most high school history classes achieve that, or at least give their students the opportunity to achieve that. As for having to know geography in order to build roads and such, that's a ridiculous statement. In a society of highly specialized individuals, the average person does not need to know that. You leave the planning up to the planners and let them fly at it. I mean, that would be like saying that everyone should have a degree in computer science so that everyone would be able to fix their computers without any outside help. In modern-day North America, complete self-sufficiency is archaic and unnecessary. Yeah pretty much. I've taken two anthropology courses before.
  9. Mmhmm, that could be. I really enjoyed the LOTR movies, but I'm a huge fantasy fanboy. I don't know what you meant about the music being bad though. I really love the soundtracks from all three and there's lots of catchy beats. I will agree with you about Return of the King though, it was one of those movies where I thought it ended about five times before it actually did.
  10. In BC, social studies up to Grade Six is pretty much a joke. You'll go over rudimentary stuff about the West Coast First Nations and the original Canadian explorers, including a bit of the Gold Rush in BC. Depending on your teacher, you might also sample different cultures (ie. Japan, African countries, etc.). In Grade 7 you do prehistoric man, Mesopotamia, and the ancient Mediterranean world (ie. Egypt, Greece, Rome). In Grade 8 you go from the collapse of the Roman Empire through the Middle Ages to the end of the Renaissance. Then in Grade 9 you go from post-Renaissance Europe to the Industrial Revolution and go back and re-do early Canadian history (the first explorers). In Grade 10 you focus on the early settlers in Canada and the US. In Grade 11 you do Canadian politics and do Canadian history up until the end of WWII. In Grade 12 you start with 1919 treaty and go right up to the end of the Gulf War.
  11. But will anyone pay Yashin like the Yashin of 2001?
  12. It was further clarification for Bitton.
  13. Writing an essay is a technical skill and it's purpose is to argue, not create.
  14. I was thinking the exact same thing. I really like Timonen, but $6.3M is definitely quite up there, just over half a million more than Markov.
  15. Did you seriously have to make three posts in a row? You could have used the edit function or something... On an entirely unrelated note, does anyone here like House MD? I just started watching it with my roomie and it's hilarious.
  16. Yepp, essays are not art because there is no creativity behind them. Poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction and feature writing however are all considered art.
  17. I was actually thinking that too. I think we have one more summer, but I'm not sure.
  18. I know the babies from Baby Geniuses.
  19. I'm trying...it's just not working. *insert mandatory grope here* Well, I'm very pleased to meet you. I love everyone from Finland. As for Salmy, I don't expect huge things from him, but I think he has a lot of skill and if he can put it together, he could surprise us.
  20. Ahhh, so that's why he left the team. I was trying to figure that out, but not being able to read Finnish made it a tad difficult. By the way, you're Finnish, eh?
  21. Yeah, I mentioned that yesterday. I also wonder if us getting Lahti and Salmy could help attract Selanne and/or Timmonen.
