habs rule
On the other hand, if they're thinking of trading him, wouldn't it behoove the Habs to either play him (to up his value/get him in playing shape) or trade him? Montreal is fortunate with their strong start that they don't have to give him away but they know Tinordi sitting this long puts his value in the wrong direction. You make a good point, but he does not seem able to make this team, and they can't send him down. So while they might like to play him, nobody (well almost nobody) wants to screw with the success they are having. You are right they are not under pressure to move him, but how long does this go on for? The longer it goes the worse it gets.
DON
And the odd thing is, it was a situation Mgmt knew was coming up this fall. Most knew who top six would be way back once Petry was extended and Pateryn-Tinordi haven't really changed much since last year. So it maybe is all the darn winning that has thrown a bit of wrench into plan? Or Beregvin isn't sweating at all and he knows injuries are inevitable to showcase/test #6 or #24? DON
Can two young(ish) d-men sit in pressbox for several months? I imagine Gonchar and Weaver spent a lot of weeks there, but they were experienced players near end of careers.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Can two young(ish) d-men sit in pressbox for several months? I imagine Gonchar and Weaver spent a lot of weeks there, but they were experienced players near end of careers. Yeah, there's no way this is good for their development. Pateryn is a bit older and maybe can handle it; he is also basicaly guaranteed a spot next season when Gilber walks. But this has to be nothing but bad news for Tinordi. Traditionally, I believe, teams would trade a guy if he was NHL-ready but had no room on the team, just as a norm of 'fairness' to the player. But perhaps the era of salary caps and asset-maximization leads to a new ruthlessness. It's worth asking whether the 'waiver' requirement is a healthy element of the CBA. Presumably it was designed to stop players from being trapped endlessly in the minors under circumstances like these (?) - and also to force teams to spread assets around. But in this case it's having the perverse effect of hurting everybody.
