Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed. "We felt that he has been a really good goal scorer in the National Hockey League, has good speed and is a skilled hockey player,” said Clarke in making the announcement. “Losing (Sami) Kapanen (due to injury) for at least two months leaves us shallow at forward, so we thought that getting a player like Savage would really help our team.” Savage, 34, did not play during the 2004-05 season. During the 2003-04 season, he recorded 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points and 38 penalty minutes in 74 regular season games for the Phoenix Coyotes and St. Louis Blues. Over parts of 11 NHL seasons (from 1993-94 through 2003-04) with the Montreal Canadiens, Phoenix and St. Louis, Savage has recorded 183 goals and 162 assists for 345 points and 293 penalty minutes in 608 regular season games. The five-time 20-goal scorer was originally drafted from Miami University by Montreal in the eighth round (171st overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Does everyone not forget how he is not seen on the ice just as the second half of the season starts? I wish him well in Philly but I do believe he will do nothing there. BTH Posted September 16, 2005 Share Posted September 16, 2005 After seeing the Flyers killer line-up a while back I noticed that the forward lines weren"t THAT great. They had a great first two lines and then some good prospects on the bottom lines but no amazing talent. Just average lines. Savage is a good pick-up for them. Especially since hes only expected to replace Kapanen for 2 months, which is when he plays best. If he performs like he did in Montreal this is a great move by Bob Clarke. Psycing Posted September 16, 2005 Share Posted September 16, 2005 I alwayz liked Savage even though he really was Mr. October. Should be interesting to see if he takes hold of possibly his final shot at staying in the NHL. With the youth movement, and seeing that it took this long to find a team, and only due to an injury, it should be interesting to see how many more years he can stay around.
