Spider-Man NL
http://www.canada.com/sports/hockey/canadi...3b-d0d2cb8086cf Spate of groin pulls. Habs' Sundstrom latest to go down Some players feel that the rules in the new National Hockey League are a pain in the butt. But trainers around the league are discovering that the relaunched NHL is more likely to produce a pain in the groin. "It seems to be a problem all over the league," Canadiens athletic therapist Graham Rynbend said after practice yesterday. "We have two guys out with groin injuries and - knock wood - we hope that we don't get any more," Rynbend said as he rapped his knuckles against a wooden bench in the Canadiens dressing room. Richard Zednik has been out of the lineup with a strained groin that occurred during the morning skate before the season opener in Boston. And Niklas Sundstrom became the latest casualty when he "felt a pop" on the final shift of Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins. "I don't know what happened," Sundstrom said. "There was no contact, I didn't hit a rut in the ice. I was just skating and I felt a pop." The Canadiens don't believe that Sundstrom's injury is as serious as Zednik's. But he didn't practise at Verdun Auditorium yesterday and he definitely won't play tomorrow night when the New York Islanders visit the Bell Centre (7 p.m., RDS, CJAD Radio-800). "You can't rush a groin injury," Sundstrom said. "I've been getting treatment and I just have to wait until it's better." Dozens of players have been sidelined this season with groin strains and related problems like hip flexors or back spasms. "They're all related," Rynbend said. "There have been a lot of problems around the league and I would say the main reason is that these players haven't been competing at an NHL level for more than a year. "Even the guys who played in Europe; it's not the same intensity." Rynbend said. "And now you have the new rules, which means that the game is faster and that means there's more strain when players make a sharp turn or a quick stop." At least seven goaltenders have been sidelined by groin injuries, including the Atlanta tandem of Kari Lehtonen and Mike Dunham. The mini-epidemic has hit youngsters like Lehtonen and aging veterans like Gary Roberts and Joe Nieuwendyk. Bad ice and a shorter training camp have been cited as contributing factors, but Rynbend said neither seemed to be involved in the Habs' injuries. Rynbend said summer training regimens are important for preventing muscle strains. "The guys have their summer programs and if they don't report in good shape, there's nothing you can do to correct it," Rynbend said. "During the season, we try to head off problems by treating players as soon as they complain of soreness in the groin or in the back. By checking out a player's alignment, we can often fix things before they become a problem." The injury to Sundstrom means coach Claude Julien will have to rely on the versatility and depth of his team. And with Raitis Ivanans also out - he's recovering from a broken orbital bone - there are no spares. That means Pierre Dagenais, who was a healthy scratch against the Bruins, will be back in the lineup. He'll be on the fourth line with Chris Higgins and Mathieu Dandenault, who may also see some action on defence. Steve Begin will replace Sundstrom on the third line with Jan Bulis and Radek Bonk. Julien will have seven defencemen dressed and look for him to be as creative as he was in the Boston game. He'll use Mark Streit on the power play, while Dandenault will move to defence in penalty-killing situations. phickey@thegazette.canwest.com © The Gazette (Montreal) 2005

CoRvInA
man o man I read the article on Kovalev as a mentor and the end part is just stuck on my mind!! "It's hard to be consistent for 82 games, but there are a lot of things you can do to be better. I've been working on that every day, every year, and I'd like to see that from the team and our line." This says alot in so many ways its awesome.. unless he's still not familiar with spoken English or the reporter wrote it wrong... this shows that Kovy means buisness and no BS!... Couldn't have come at a better time to a better team .. Thank You BobbY! recommended reading [Edited on 2005/10/21 by CoRvInA]

Simonus's signature is a quote by Koivu about Perezhogin: "If he's not great now, we're gonna make him great." and many other good quotes. This article shows us why Special K is special and why Captain K is captain.
shortcat1
I read the article and here's my take on all of those 'groin' and related injuries. 1) some players are not in as good a shape as they can be. 2) the fast & furious skate, skate, skate of the 'new' NHL is putting strains on muscles which weren't as 'strained' as they were before. The bodies are going to have to adjust to this all-out kind of hockey. :hlogo::ghg::hlogo: 1977 - third year teaching - nothing of outstanding importance happened. BTH
I object. 1) Some goalies haven't skated since the lockout so they're rusty and not as in shape as they used to. 2) The goaltender interference is out of control.

I hope that he's true to his words because if he is, he'll be like another Koivu in the dressing room, on the bus/plane, on the bench/ice... is patient but takes no BS kind of excuses. That'd be great for the team. :hlogo::ghg::hlogo: 1979 - third child (a son) is born
BTH
Kovalev is our oldest player and one of the few who has won a Stanley Cup. He's got the most experience and is an amazing player. True, Dandenault has 3 Stanley Cups but he has done little to contribute to an already stacked Red Wings team and has never seemed like a motivational player. Howie_Morenz
Satan and Yashin are like magic when they play together. I watched both NYR/NYI games this week and they are fast. My prediction is that Mr. Bulis is going to be very very very very busy against that line! Unless Claude decides to go big line against big line... Trizzak
Islanders are on a bit of a role. Habs are gonna have to come out hard and fast and kill the Isles' momentum early. I'm wondering if Kovalev will get an "A" on his jersey later in the season?
BTH
If we can slow the game down we can beat them. Sure we're a fast team but besides their streaky forwards they've got NOTHING. DiPietro should be easy to beat. We need a big game from Theo.

If you're very, very, very, very correct, I'll be very, very, very, very impressed by that very, very, very, very, precise but not that very, very, very, very concise evaluation. ;) 1988 - still nothing of memorable consequence... life flows on in my 38th year. BTH
Ribs isn't assistant captain and he doesn't have much in terms of leadership. A bad candidate for the A.

DJ_Laszlo
I got the chance to catch the lasat period of thursday's game between NYR and NYI and I gotta say that Dipietro looked really sharp, even though he allowed 4 goals against him... HaliHab
I got to watch the Isles play this week as well, unfortunately Satan is starting to feel more comfortable; with Yashin feeding him the puck he's a real threat. It will be interesting to watch Trent Hunter, thus far he has been highly ineffective... These guys do alot of running around in their own end, they desperately lack a shut down dman (which leads me to believe, given their available assets, they'll be hot in the running for B. Witt), as many have already written when they have the puck they are very speedy and dangerous. Robert Nilson is a bit of a wild card, he drifts in and out but you've always got to have a body on him... Special teams will be impt. their PP isn't the greatest but they are dangerous short handed, generating many chances. Considering we gave up a shorthanded goal last game this will be a concearn. I would expect we'll go strength on strength again tonight, fitting with Juliens recent HABits. The Rangers gave this team fits when they went strength on strength - Jagr line vs. Yashin line... get them on their heels and they CANNOT clear the zone. Plus this frees up our speedy thrid line to check their speedy 2nd scoring line of Blake - Parrish - Hunter - no coincidence speedy/experienced Begin will play with Bulis and Bonk instead of Higgins... To play on a Steve Sterling quote from their matchups last week with the Rangers, " I believe we are the team that, on paper, should win the game, its just a matter of execution and intensity". While I didn't like the tone of this quote initially, I think it will be highly relevant tonight. If the Habs move their legs we'll be 6-2 Go Habs Go
zumpano21
Seeing that the CBC and SRC have left us out to dry for this one, what's the best way to listen to the games over the net in FRENCH? Is there any?

Useless information.
redondo
My prediction: 4:2 Habs. Scorers: Higgins, Koivu, Kovalev, Streit. I have a feeling either Dandenault or Streit score their first goal with CH tonite, I'm going with the Swiss boy. Ribs with two assists. GO HABS GO!
