habsfan88
Can anyone find a clip of Boynton's spear on Ribeiro? I saw it on t.v and I'm pretty sure it was a clear spear...But all of my stupid Leaf fan friends are saying Ribeiro dove again. I didn't think he did at all...If anyone can find a clip of the mayhem that went down in the 3rd period it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I didn't see any of it but apparently Boynton's suspended for making an inapropriate threatining gesture to Riberio........................................what's that all about.........??? Can someone fill me in?
Talon
Someone has a link to the spear in the game thread.
Rebel1968
The players who gliding around after a whistle when Boynton was holding his stick horizontally waist high and appeared to give Ribs a quick jab in the gut with the butt-end as he passed by. Ribs doubled over and who can say if he was embellishing the injury. (Judging by the fact Ribs dropped the gloves (?!?), I suspect he wasn't acting and that the jab did hurt). After Boynton was called for spearing and was being escorted away by a linesman, he gave Ribs the throat slash sign a few times.
lazy26
Definitely not a dive... It wasn't a severe spear, I'd say Boynton swung the stick around maybe 45 degrees.. and i don't even know if the tip of the blade fully caught ribs in the stomach... I'm not sure what provoked him, but Boynton made a throat slitting gesture as he was being led off the ice by a linesman... which leads me to believe that the spear earned him the game misconduct, not the gesture... Hope this helps... Leaf fans suck...

Whether or not you like ribs(i'm on the fence) or not, he is on our team, so I have his back. I hope someone stands up for him. If that guy has room he can be pretty creative. smon
Ivanans next Boston game? Umm, no. More like Todd Simpson for the next Boston game. Could be Downey over Sundstrom as well.
JLP
Here's a link to a video of the fracas You only see the spear at the end of the clip, Boynton was a sneak and tried to get away with it. olematelot
They showed it in slow motion right after the incident and you could see Boynton bury the stick blade in Ribs gut. He was sneaky about it and you had to look close to catch it Just reported on TSN he got a further game for the throat slash gesture. Peter Puck
Someone has a link to the spear in the game thread. I couldn't get that link to work - it reported no such page. Hope this helps... Leaf fans suck... I was watching the game on TSN with my PVR. TSN had a very good view of the spear taken from overhead (camera attached to the clock maybe?). I replayed it a few times in slow motion. I certainly didn't see any 45 degree stick swing. As the teams were skating back to the benches Boyton clearly prepared his stick and when he passed Ribeiro he quickly and discretely gave Ribs a quick spear. Probably only moved his stick 8 or 10 inches but it was clearly premeditated and also clear he tried to conceal it from the refs. I don't know how powerful it was. Very probably Ribeiro over dramatised it but his first response was not to fall or anything like that - he immediately shoved/punched Boyton in the head - also not very hard. Only after they were separated a minute later did he grab his stomach. I didn't see him really playing up the injury. Okay, you can see part of this at the end of the clip posted by JeanLuc: Here's a link to a video of the fracas You only see the spear at the end of the clip, Boynton was a sneak and tried to get away with it. kaos
Gonna make for an interesting few games considering they play a few more times before the end of the season. Be fun to see Ribeiro put on another performance and see who comes to his rescue
The-Habby2919
Begin had his back last night... i think he got a 3rd man in penalty for it. :hlogo:
habsfan88
Thanks for every reply guys! Yeah, I'd like to see Todd Simpson in there next game!!
JMMR
No Begin did not get a 3rd man in penalty in fact he did not get a penalty at all. I was however worried about this same thing. I believe the linesman and referees recognized the size mismatch between Ribs and Boynton.

Okay, you can see part of this at the end of the clip posted by JeanLuc: I didn't break out the protractor, but I thought 45 degrees was a pretty safe estimate... not a full swing.. just a little one.. likely close to 8-10 inches... 45 degrees really isn't that much of an arc... brboo
hey guys ribs is a bonehead and all most games. But good for him standing up for himself he threw the gloves off first and wanted a piece of boyton. was probably still a little upset about theo getting traded (which still hasnt sunk in quite yet btw). Anyway good for him showing some emotion.
