At least BG tried, but in the end, that 7 years in what made the difference and he's not worth it. He will be 37 the last year of his contract. For 7M+, we can get Arnott and Shanahan and we would be a better team with those 2 then just Elias. I can see that contract being a real albatross around the neck of the Devils in the 5th or 6th year (or sooner if a major injury occurs). On the other hand, if Bob isn't able to land Arnott....the Habs are in trouble. The rest of the division has improved...we can't afford to just hold the line. I don't know if such a long contract is that good ... the prize (6 million a year) is pretty solid, not too much for Elias but I'm glad Gainey didn't match the contract length.
