  1. Not even Quinn would risk losing what little rep as a hockey man by attempting to put Tie Dummy on Team Canada:o
  2. Shortcat, I wasn't making any comment about Riberio's mentality at all. I was just asking for clarification about the previous post. My remark about his ethnicity was based on what I read somewhere that his parents immigrated from Portugal which would at least part of his background Portugese, even though he was born in Montreal. As far as I'm concerned Ribs nationality or ethnicity really has no place in a discussion about his play and that is what I should have said. My post was an attempt(obviously not a very good one ) to ask what Haboholic meant. I don't care where the Habs players come from as long as they are loyal to the team and play hard, although I do like to see them have some talented French-Canadien players as this has been a team tradition since the days of Howie Morenz. Getting back to Ribs, I dont know why people want to trade last season's leading scorer, but as I've noted on other threads Habs fans as repesented by this board are not an easily pleased lot [Edited on 2005/11/17 by PMAC]
  3. habaholic: First, as far as I know Ribs is more Portugese than Quebequois. Second, do you think he is over-rated because he is 'French Canadian' or do you think other people over-rate him because he is percieved to be FC and plays in Montreal? If Marchant goes to the minors and CBJ call him up we could claim him while taking a much smaller cap hit, but I think--although he is a useful player-- we dont really need him
  4. It was joke... that's why i put the LOL smiley after the comment. Fedorov is not worth the cap room that his salary eats, but Columbus was desperate enough to take a chance and they had more cap room than we have. If we got Fedorov where would he play when Kovy comes back? The continued development of our young players would be disrupted. I dont think Bob would have made this deal even if we had cap room. The upside to this deal is that TO is stuck with Allision much to the Chagrin of the mutually unhappy Quinn and Allison. Poor Leafs, I feel sorry for them...NOT!
  5. What a crappy deal for Anaheim. Why didn't we trade Dags for Fedorov and a pick? Damn:lol:
  6. I think you misunderstood me. I see a big difference betweeen saying that Theo is not playing as well as he could or even should be and saying he's an overpaid bum lets ship him out for john Graham or even worse trade him for a top forward and start Danis. The first is as you say fair and honest criticism the second is an overly negative take on a situation which is not at this point having a negative impact on the team in the standings. My point was that at times people here seem to think that the Habs should dominate every period of every game. A team at 12-3-3 doesnt need "fair and honest criticism" of every little fault. I simply thought we ought to enjoy the hot streak while it lasted.
  7. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...BNStory/Sports/ Here's Eric Duhatschek's (from the Globe & Mail) take on the Habs(sounds like he agrees with my brilliant analysis:) The Canadiens are an astonishing 12-3-3 so far in the new season for a lot of different reasons — reasonable goaltending from Jose Theodore, strong defensive play from Craig Rivet and others, but mostly because of timely goal-scoring from every corner of the line-up, including the handful of younger players, who made the team out of training camp and have been strong contributors ever since..... Kovalev skipped a lot of practices this season, for therapy purposes, but the Canadiens kept his problem secret — and the way he played, with no obvious drop-off in his game, it was a pretty easy sell. If Dr. Burke discovers the problem is worse than anticipated, things could change. But for now, the expectation is that Kovalev should be fine by mid-December — and assuming the Canadiens' scoring-by-committee continues, they should be too. [Edited on 2005/11/15 by PMAC]
  8. ARRRRRRRRAGH.... Sorry, I needed that... all better now. Well here comes a true test of our depth and our rookies. I predict JT will pick up his game, the rookies step it up and we keep winning:ghg:
  9. Thank you MT Royale; I'm not really going anywhere... I'm too much of a Habs addict to give up on the best hockey site on the Internet and besides even if I stay it will take me about a decade to get to the HoF. Seriously though, if someone said before the season that the Habs would start 12-3-3 you would be ecstatic. It was not my intention to question anyone's right to express their opinion I just got a little tired of the negativity. I appreciate and support any habs as soon as they don the sweater and for as long as they wear the sweater unless their play is truely indifferent. Only a few players have ever driven me to wish them gone( Murray Baron, Kovalenko, Chezecauski, and Traverse spring to mind) Speaking of negativity what's the word on Kovalev?:ghg:
  10. I'm thinking of giving the board a miss for a while. We are close to the top of the league with a better record than even the most freverent or optimistic of us would have hoped for. We are off to one of the best starts in franchise history. Everything is going as well as anyone has a right to expect and what do we see here? Lately it has been moaning and whining: get rid of Dags he's crap; what's wrong with Theo? Let's trade him; our defense is too soft; whats wrong with the second line?; Julien's not coaching well because we are getting too many penalties for too many men on the ice; etecetera, etcetera, ad infinitum ad nauseum Wake up and enjoy the renaissance; savour each imperfect victory. The TEAM is playing well and winning because different players are picking up the slack every game. That's the best we can hope for. No team or player can be at their best for all 80 games(and we want them to have something in the tank for the playoffs) so lets just enjoy it a little more and be a little more positive :ghg:

    CFL Playoffs

Well, one down two to go. At least the Als won. *&^%#@!! Fox Sports didnt show the game they showed a boring No Fun League game instead. I watched the last quarter in case they picked up the CFL broadcast at half tim. No such luck they went from NFL to billiards. Cant understand why people say the NFL is so superior to the CFL. The game is so slow its like watching paint dry. it took them an hour and a half to play one quarter UGH! Oh well Fox is promising CFL football again tonight maybe I'll get a delayed broadcast but more likely if they show the CFL if will be the damned Eskimos beating Calgary
  12. Sorry guys, a team does not get a record like the Habs do and be at the top of the conference if the goaltending is consistently sub-par. Yes, Theo has been inconsistent; yes there are some shots he should have stopped. is there a perfect goalie in the NHL? I haven't heard of one. The bottom line is Danis is not ready. It would be an enormous act of stupidity to trade Theo without getting a top-notch goaltender back. I couldnt in my worst nightmare see BG doing that. So who are you going to get to replace him? John Graham? Cujo?!! Don't make me laugh. The only way I would be in favour of trading Theo is if Keenan completely loses his mind and trades us Luongo, Boumeester and a 2nd round pick for Theo, Dags and a 1st round pick. It's not going to happen. Relax, the team is winning and Jose will round into form. It wouldn't hurt to give Danis a start though. He needs more NHL experience in case JT gets hurt.

    CFL Playoffs

I'm really excited about this game because it is the first one I will be able to see since I was on vacation in Canada in July. Fox Sports Middle East is showing the CFL playoffs. Just hope the Als don't disappoint me... I'm praying for a three game winning streak.
  14. Stupidity is always a little easier to stomach when it benefits you or your team, but that doesnt make it any less stupid. A lousy point for a crappy loss that the :puke: leafs tied on a fluke goal doesnt make me happy. Maybe we should start a world-wide petition to encourage the NHL to eliminate the moronic point for an OT loss
  15. I hope that the Habs will be able to exploit TO's weak defence, particularly Berg and Be-lack(as in lacking skill) and some of you complain that our defense is weak! If McCabe wins the Norris I'll admit to my poor misgudied uncle( a leaf fan, God help him) that the laughs are a great team.
  16. What is it with former Habs haunting us? Now even Thibault is getting into the act. I'm surprised LeClair didnt score the winning goal by deflecting a shot off his face.
  17. Possibly one of the stupidest threads I've read about what is unquestionably the stupidest rule in sports. Get rid of the OT loss point A loss is a loss is a loss. Giving the losers a point just makes the NHL look stupid. If they can eliminate ties then they should elimuinate this rule too.
  18. No worries about him loving the Habs too much! If he really loved us he would not have made us lose such a historic game. Will there be shootouts in the playoffs?
  19. Alas, shortcat, i must leave you its 3:35 am and i need sleep. I'm only still here because i cant muster the energy to get up and go to bed i:ghg:
  20. I want a power-play goal.........I want it, I want it:ghg:
