  1. Knowing there's likely to be a rollback of some sort in salary, any team wanting to buyout any player will want to wait until after the new CBA to save some money/cap space. The waiver period for this started over a week ago, there's a reason no player has hit those waivers yet.
  2. Live streaming of Day 2 coverage can be found here: http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=616&id=181673
  3. Galchenyuk has his own draft blog for NHL.com, here is his article from last night: http://www.habsworld.net/out.php?15162
  4. Day 2 of the draft is here, who will the Habs select after getting Galchenyuk yesterday? Right now, Montreal's remaining selections are as follows: 33 51 64 94 122 154
  5. Well, now the talk turns to who is still on the board at 33 (someone can feel free to start the Day 2 thread later tonight/early tomorrow). Matt Finn is an intriguing name (and not just because I drafted him in HWL) and would add to the blueline depth.
  6. Damian Brunner, discussed earlier in this thread, agrees to a deal with Detroit, it will be made official July 1st.
  7. First trade of the day, Sergei Bobrovsky to Columbus for 3 draft picks including #45.
  8. Apparently, he has talked to Timmins a couple of times about him and he just gushes about Teravainen. Raw skill wise, he's certainly intriguing; he's the home run pick if there is one in this draft.
  9. Is this a stretch for a GDT? Probably but it's been a while since we've had one... The opening round of the draft goes tonight at 7 PM EST with the Habs selecting third. Stephane Leroux from RDS is speculating that Teravainen is who the Habs have their eye on. Use this thread to discuss the picks plus any rumours that pop up throughout the day.
  10. Although those all don't speak French, I think you could make a case that guys like Dufresne and Riendeau are 'token' hires. Mind you I like Dufresne's resume a bit while Riendeau's various experience is both intriguing and worrisome (a goalie coach should not coach in that many countries in a hurry). I'm sure there were other qualified options out there for those spots although if they're interested in trying to groom guys to possibly coach in Montreal, I can certainly understand the logic.
  11. More draft reading as this time HW looks back at the past 30 years of the draft and goes over the good, the bad, and the Aki Berg-like selections at third overall. http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2837
  12. Griffin Reinhart is soaring up the rankings, up to #4 on TSN and tonight was potentially linked to the Habs at 3.
  13. We don't. I could only bother to type the first 50 NA skaters as per CSB. Use 'other' when you think he'll be picked to score points on that selection.
  14. It's not like doing so or failing to do has yielded a different result - no one has signed an offer sheet under either of their stints. Evidently, Bergevin feels more comfortable taking extra precaution here, good on him for doing so to assuage some fears but this isn't a big thing or shows that he's smarter than his predecessors.
  15. Timmins and Bergevin will have a media scrum in Pittsburgh starting in about 20 minutes or so.
  16. I think the concerns might be that the cap is likely to decrease with the new CBA. Matt (the guy who runs the site) has set the bar at $70.3 M as per Bob McKenzie's note from around a month ago but I don't think anyone thinks that will be the cap when the puck drops. So fans (and teams likely) are trying to have some sort of cushion under the 70.3 when the seemingly inevitable happens.
  17. The Habs have taken Carey Price to arbitration, preventing any team from attempting to give him an offer sheet. The club has the option to file for a 1 or 2 year deal; this doesn't preclude them from negotiating a long-term pact. Do note, if the Habs opt for a 1 year deal, they won't have this option next year.
  18. I was pretty close then. The point still stands, very vague about the injury suffered which does Pacioretty an injustice as to how impressively he recovered.
  19. If the tape is out there of the nominees section, listen closely to the phrasing for each. Alfredsson came back from a serious back injury, Lupul from two back injuries and blood clotting, and Pacioretty recovered from a check. (Don't quote me on these specifically, going off memory here...) I get that they're not going to call it a vicious check (they obviously had to choose their words carefully) but don't demean what he recovered from by neglecting to mention it; that is more or less what the Masterton is about nowadays.
  20. Gilbert Brule will be unqualified by the Coyotes. I think his stint in Phoenix might be enough to get him a cheap deal somewhere else (perhaps Phoenix at a lower rate even), he wasn't half bad after joining them on re-entry waivers. Ex-Hab Alex Picard reportedly will also go unqualified.
  21. I'm a Sutter fan too and I'm a little leery he'll be there at 51 (I had Nieves and Severson as my top 2 there) but at the same time I think 33 would be a reach. It's looking as if there will be a few top 6 forwards (or at least have the potential to be) available there; there is a bigger need for top-6 than bottom 6 I think. I wouldn't be upset if he went there most likely (I reserve the right to change my mind depending on who's there Saturday) but I think there are better fits. As for the goalies, Murray was indeed my selection. He's a longer term project which I think suits the team better. Murray needs a few years to fill out his frame (I think being severely underweight hurt him this year) while also getting above average playing time (Jack Campbell's gone so he once again is the #1). Makarov's a year older and with the Russian factor, will slip once again. He's a guy I think that could be had in the later rounds and might be a great pickup then. I'm in the minority here but I think it's a must that a goalie is picked fairly high this draft. The external goalie market is getting pretty thin and as well all know the Habs have very little in the pipeline (I still hold a little hope for Delmas that he can amount to a semi-useful 3rd stringer). Mind you I said last year they had to pick a goalie so perhaps I'm on my own island here...
  22. We were split on who to take there. I was quietly pushing Murray, Norm and Jonathan were on the Forsberg bandwagon. Grigorenko also had some discussion as well.
  23. It's the moment I'm sure you've all been waiting for (I'll give you a moment to stop laughing)... it's the HW Mock Draft: http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2834
  24. A goalie coach, that's half the problem solved for Hamilton between the pipes...now they just need the goalie. In all seriousness, I'm glad to see they'll actually have a coaching staff this year instead of just one assistant.
  25. Nope, Calgary agreed to terms with Cervenka earlier this offseason. It wasn't long ago that they were showcasing themselves as a package deal when both were still overseas.
