I would much rather see the Bruins play than the Wings. The Wings don't deserve to be there, and they play a terrible brand of hockey. I've never seen a team die a slower death than Detroit. They're like a 92 Corolla, three different colors and they can't drive on the highway, but they still start up.

To me, the real question is: does Reway have the potential to be an impact offensive forward in the NHL? If he does, then carrying an old-school, our-way-or-the-highway mentality to the point of losing the player, does not seem wise for an organization with a dearth of top-6 talent. There has to be a middle ground between Habs29's philosophy of just handing the keys unconditionally to punks who haven't earned a damned thing, and the aforementioned 'do it our way or f*k off' mindset. I get that we shouldn't reward millennial 'entitlement,' but just losing potentially important players in the name of inflexibility surely isn't the way to roll, especially not in a cap system where you need all the cheap talent you can get. If he doesn't project to be an impact offensive forward, then that's something else.

This x 1000000 Who wants to see Paul Byron's silky mitts dangling around everyone? Dale Weise going on a rush end to end? Desharnais net hanging at the other blue line? Cause they all played in the top 6 this year. The team's identity is defense first, then a counter attack with lots of speed. You can't just say I want them to do this and that when that's not what they are. They play to their strengths, and their biggest strength is having the best goalie in the world. When he gets injured the team will suffer, no adjustments can make up for that. It's like having Tom Brady out for the season and then getting mad at Belichick for losing. Well, the team is built around Brady, the passing game won't be as good and the running game isn't their strength.

I guess where we disagree is you believe this team is achieving it's potential, where I do not. I think that if we had better coaching and a better system the players would respond better. If you believe this is a dump and chase team well again we disagree. We do have some very talented players that are simply not being used to exploit their individual talents. Some of the coaching decisions and they have been articulated ad nauseam, simply show that Le Genius is lost. He can teach defence, he cannot come up with an offensive scheme. He never has and he never will. We need a new coach, and some new assistants. This plan did not work. I have no doubt that if Carey is healthy next year that this team will be better than this year and you will all say see I told you so. Will we win a cup? No forking way. He couldn't win a cup with Sid the Kid and he won't with this group.

Unlike Gainey who fired one of his best friendS, I don't think MB has the stones to fire the croonies he grew up with. Otherwise JJ and Lefevre would not have jobs.
