  1. I simply don't get how trading the best offensive players on the team for offense makes any sense. We need to add offence not make a lateral trade that gains us (maybe) an extra goal or 2. Although Mark down Mark seems good at lateral trades that accomplish shite.

  2. Well, rumours centre on Galy because most people believe MB would much more readily trade a high-ceiling young player than Pacioretty, who is the perfect 'company man' the organization obviously prizes. Add to that his intemperate remarks about Galy at the presser, and that his new coach seems to dislike him, and you've got a perfect storm for rumours. I disagree that Galy has little value. Smart teams would love the chance to acquire a kid that young who has already scored 30. It 's a classic case of swooping in to grab a guy after the other team has endured all his growing pains. There will certainly be demand. Bergy will probably flip him for inadequate return (less talent but more 'character') but that's another story.

  3. Nashville is one win away from competing for the Cup. I'm amazed they've done it without the leadership of Shea Weber. Next trade: Beaulieu and Sergachev for Marian Hossa and Artem Anisimov.

  4. Trade Pacioretty. Need a new captain? Got one with Weber. Need a new left winger? The team already doesn't like Galchenyuk at centre so he can slip into the role just fine. Desirable contract? Yup. That's the guy you trade for a centre.

  5. Good post dude. I'm a huge Price fan. His series against Thomas was one of my favourite goaltending match ups when he really won me over. I thought he could of been better and did get outgoaltended by Hank. Is the series his fault? Nope but it was a series defined by one goal and he made one less save than Hank.

  6. I know I'm setting myself to get ripped by those who hate our team in every way but I don't feel as though Price has ever really played as well as he is capable of during the playoffs as he did during the regular season 2-3 years ago as well as during both his Olympic journeys. The reason I say I'm setting myself up is because the obvious reaction is that the Habs aren't as good on paper as team Canada. With that being said, I feel as though there's more to it than that. It's a great argument to state that other goalies can counteract the Price effect in a 7 game series but on the other hand, I feel as though if you truly are the greatest, you should be able to rise above the enemy and play better than them at all costs. That's certainly the mental part of the game rather than the skillful part of the game and while I don't doubt him in any way, I will say as a coach (of a different sport) myself, hopefully Price has that innate mental edge. His skills are there but if other goalies are matching him, it's because of their mental compete level. That's food for thought in and of itself but on topic, I don't think there's a set formula. If anything we could perhaps argue that goaltending in general is getting better and so there's quite a bit of parity in the position. If I were building a team, I'd have very little issue with my goalie being my best player. I'm personally comfortable with that. Is it only an old school way of thought? I don't see why it would be. The only negative I can think of is that your contract is likely to be high when they are a sure thing and so another team can luck out with a decent contract and more offensive power.

  8. I don't know about that. The guys on NBC said that when lavoilette was asked whether they would have to play a more defensive game. He said absolutely. He said they had to play an aggressive attacking style. In this situation, most coaches would have had their team go in a defensive shell. Hell, MT always preached playing that defensive game - even though we were always a lousy defensive team that gave up a lot of high quality scoring chances. when the game the preds scored the go ahead goal last night, they were still in attack mode and were still going for it and were so and were so aggressive they hardly allowed any shots. i credit Laviolette for a hell of a coached game and Poile for hiring a guy that was a 180 degree change of direction from what Nashville's identity had been. Unlike MB who hired a boob and replaced him with a similar, albeit better boob.

  9. I almost need a Nashville/Ottawa SC final just for the possibility of seeing this again, but in a playoff game: Laviolette v Boucher, round 2, FIGHT!

  12. You both are giving him too much credit. MB probably would have waived him.
