  2. I didn't seriously mean to suggest that Price is playing to get the GM fired. The tricky thing is that, because his only other extended period of suckage in recent years did indeed occur when he was revolting against his superiors (Therrien), there *is* that possibility. I'd rate it as maybe a 10% chance. And incidentally, it is possible to be committed to a city and even an organization while concluding that the team's management is garbage and needs to go. Every fan on this site who hates Bergevin is proof of that. So Price's contract does not automatically conflate to an endorsement of MB/CJ. IMHO. Price has been committed to Montreal through ups and downs ever since he first arrived, and may have been willing to lock in while still reserving judgement on Bergevin, or still being prepared to give up on MB based on what he did or didn't do during the summer. It's probably more likely that he is shocked and confused at the calbre of the defence in front of him, and not reacting well. Like some commentators, he may have expected the D to be better than it's actually turning out to be. This might explain some of the body language and the weirdly drawn out nature of his slump. (Usually Price's dips in performance are nowhere near this bad, and only last for 3-4 games). Of course the most likely explanation is just that he's lost confidence. The thing with this is that Price is such a superior goaltender that the thought of him suddenly getting the 'yips' and losing his mojo seems rather unbelievable, a bit like Connor McDavid suddenly forgetting how to make plays at speed. When we explore other explanations besides this one, we're basically paying him a supreme compliment - i.e., that he's so good, he's above serious slumps of this kind, and that such a slump requires a special cause.

  3. Like you, I was initially very optimistic about Bergevin, thinking we had a new-era GM who understood the direction the league is taking. The Subban trade was the decisive turning point for me. That revealed a completely old-school, hidebound organization that prioritized managerial ego over results. Nothing that has happened since has done anything other than reinforce that impression. This is the Toronto Maple Leafs 2.0, and being a Habs fan is analogous to cheering for the Leafs over the years that spanned Harold Ballard's time through to the Babcock era. Bergevin will need to be fired - or else will need to make some smart, forward-looking, franchise-changing moves unlike any he has made to this point - before I reassess what it means to be a Habs fan in this era. The franchise is a guaranteed money maker that does not need to prioritize excellence, and acts accordingly.

  4. To Montreal: John Tavares To New York: Carey Price Obviously contingent on Tavares resigning. Montreal gets an elite center for around the same money that Price is going to be getting. Then they roll the dice with the goalies they have already, if that doesn't work they can acquire one fairly easily. Garth Snow finally gets an elite goaltender and a star to fill the void for their fans. This proposed deal is more based on Price's upcoming salary cap hit as a goalie, rather than his lackluster performance so far this season. I am confident he is going to round into form here at some point. Flame away

  6. We can never have the best available GM because if he doesn't speak French he wont even get a interview.
