  1. For sure, when I say other assets that could include anything (additional picks, prospects, young NHL players ie Jordan Harris for example).
  2. I think it was a good article but I don't get the size issues for the guys listed. Eiserman is listed at 6' 195 lbs, same size as Bobby Orr (who had to play defense) and Eiserman is only 17? Helenius is listed at 5' 11" 180lbs, Demidov at 5"11, 168 lbs. I don't think of these guys as being small, especially for 17-18 year olds. Give me the 5'11" guy with the high hockey IQ over the bigger guy any day of the week.
  3. I don't disagree, it seems like there is a lot more quality in this draft than originally thought. There have been a lot of fast risers, ie. Iginla, Sennecke. Hopefully the Winnipeg pick comes in around 25 and they can use it along with other assets to move up inside 15. I know that rarely happens and you need to find a team looking for a little more quantity than quality, I think San Jose is weak in the prospect pool on defense and they have 2 picks in the top 15, maybe a fit there. Catton is dynamic, only knock is his size. Some mock drafts have him 2 or 3, others 10 or 11. I have never seen a year where the picks from 2 - 15 have been so all over the place. 2024 NHL Mock Draft | 2024 NHL Draft | NHL Draft (mynhldraft.com)
  4. Here is the interview with Berkly Catton, some great clips as well. Berkly Catton To Be a Top Canadiens Draft Target This Summer (msn.com)
  5. I found this on another board. "I just listened Marco D'amico's interview on the French Radio 91.9. He said that he did about 15 interviews so far with prospects of the June draft and Berkly Catton is the one who impressed him the most: He said that usually the interviews are 15 minutes long but with Catton's passion of the game the interview was an hour. He said that he is exactly the type of Martin St Louis cause he is a student of the game. He gave an example: Catton told him that last summer he spent hundreds of hours working on his shot but for him it was not enough so he décided to go to a goaltenders camp to speak with them. Catton asked them what were the areas where they were the most uncomfortable in the net. So with the answers that the goaltenders gave him he worked on his shot specically on that. D'Amico said Catton had the best personnalty he interviewed so far because of his passion , his knowledge of the game etc. Catton told him thst during the season he watched 15 habs games to study Nick Suzuki's game on 200 foot and Cole Caufield for his release. I had Catton 3rd overall because of his IQ ( the most important quality for a hockey player). ...this convince me even more.."
  6. Agreed, Nashville is a tough grinding team, similar to Florida that way only Florida is way more dangerous because they have more talent, especially up front. Vancouver is very fortunate to be up 3-2 in this series. I hope the Canucks prevail but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Nashville comes back to win.
  7. I think this discussion belongs on another forum, not quite relevant to the "2023/24 season playoff discussion". Sometimes things can go off on a tangent which I am guilty of as much as anybody.
  8. Great to see the Avs win. The worst the Winnipeg pick can be now is 27, the best is 24. To move up from 27 we need some teams to be in the final 4 that finished below Winnipeg in the standings that also didn't win their division as division winners automatically draft after Winnipeg. Teams in the final 4 that could improve the pick include the Avs, Oilers, Bruins, Vegas, Leafs and Nashville. Obviously Nashville and the Leafs less likely to be in the final 4. We know that one of Rangers/Hurricanes will be in the final four and they both had more points than Winnipeg so it doesn't matter who wins between those two.
  9. I am not defending having Reaves in the lineup. He is useless. I am just not making any judgement on Mathews without knowing his injury. Do we even know if he is in the lineup?
  10. The point is we have no idea what the extent of Mathews injury is. If it's a really bad groin as some have suggested then that is really difficult to play through. You could go out on the ice but you wouldn't be much help. I am not going to beat up Mathews until I know the facts.
  11. In fairness, I may have misread the intent of what @TurdBurglar was trying to say.
  12. I wouldn't agree that PK had an attitude problem. He had a flamboyant, outgoing personality that some people don't like. He didn't fit the mold that some expect a hockey player to have. He was certainly generous with his charitable giving. I definitely give him the benefit of the doubt on being a good human being. I can't comment on whether PK was a great teammate or not, maybe he was maybe he wasn't. Only someone who was a teammate for a period of time could give a good assessment on that.
  13. All this talk about a total house cleaning in Toronto is bad karma. It almost guarantees a Leaf victory tonight. I will wait for another Bruin victory before I say too much.
  14. It wouldn't shock me if the Leafs come up with a big effort tomorrow night and force game 6 (I am assuming that's the team you are referring to). They seem to play better when no one expects them to and are more relaxed on the road.
  15. Agree about PK, having a dinosaur for a coach like Therrien didn't help much either. PK had great passion for the game and had a big heart. Evander on the other hand has worn out his welcome in many places. A lot of his problems are of his own doing. He has done some good things in Edmonton, got involved in some charitable causes but it seems like his popularity has waned with some teammates the last couple months. Had a terrific game three and can be a force when focused in the right direction.
  16. I like the "hometown hockey" segments. Growing up in a small town I can tell you that without sports (hockey and curling in the winter) and ball in the summer, small towns would be "deadsville". I can understand why someone growing up in a larger center where there is more to do might not see that.
  17. His name is Harnarayan Singh, a great guy and great story. No question that pro hockey in general had a lot of work to do to make people of other cultures feel welcome, the story of Akim Aliu is a prime example of that. But they are making progress.
  18. I think the game is great as well. Maybe Cathal would feel different if the Leafs could actually win a round or two. His perspective is from Toronto where soccer and basketball are huge partly because large immigrant populations have settled there and enriched these sports.
  19. The 1st round of hockey playoffs is one of the best times of the year. It's OK to have some unproductive time.
  20. Exactly, they had a -37 goal differential this year, the worst goal differential for any team making the playoffs since 1990 or 1991 I believe. They just weren't a very good team.
  21. Yes, if Winnipeg goes out in the 1st 2 rounds that pick will be 27 at worst possibly higher. Go Avs.
  22. I think the easiest thing for an analyst to do is find a defensive breakdown somewhere, anywhere whenever a goal is scored. Giving up 3 goals is not awful, scoring only 1 is the problem.
