I wonder if we package kovalchuk with Byron to a team we could get a 1st round pick out of it. Byron could be insurance in case kovalchuk doesn't resign with them.
-
If we can keep kovalchuk I would look at packaging Byron with a 2nd and see what that could get you. If that could get you a upgrade on D I would do it or even a 1st round pick I would do it.

When healthy. Tatar / Danault / Gallagher Drouin / Domi / Kovalchuk Lehkonen / Suzuki Armia Next year when all are healthier Should be better that's if we re up kovalchuk. Byron / Kotkaniemi / Weal Could be another good scoring line.
-
Well its official this team should be selling any UFA's or RFA's they don't want to reup next year at the deadline. No way they should be trying to push for a playoff spot.
-
Yeah but he's not at the leave of Pastrnak right now 10 years ago yes, but now no.
-
What are they called when they hit 4 straight 30plus goal seasons and 1st 40plus goal season 🤔
-
Sure go back 10 years in time and bring back that kovalchuk
-
So that's what a true sniper looks like..... Wish we had one or two of those on our team.
-
Mind you people picking 10-14 tend to win the draft lottery at move up to 3. So maybe we're in a good spot.
-
Its too late now I don't see them getting a top 10 pick. We're just going to be picking at 15 again.
-
They better not try and rush him back. Just rest him for next year. Lets see if Bergevin actually makes a trade and brings in a replacement to help the D. Or is he not going to learn from not making a trade when Drouin went out, and just wait it out.
-
Wow hoping for the best for him. Other wise our D just took a big hit.
-
Don't forget Hudon , McCarron, Scherbak fucale
-
As it's been said here to discredit "tanking " nothing is guaranteed. Doesn't mean that they will all make the NHL or pan out. But then again we got these prospects from not making the playoffs and giving ourselves a better opportunity to draft a talented player.
-
If we are able to sign Romanov, then I would resign Kovalchuk. Just so Romanov feels comfortable on the team with another Russian on the team.
-
17-5-3 that's what we need to do the rest of the year to make the playoffs.
-
I would like us to resign Kovalchuk. I thought it was a bad pick up at the time because I wanted a better draft pick. But i was wrong and it was a good pick up by Bergevin. We finally have a balance forward group , and if in the off season we add a top playmaking D we could have a really good team. But what I would do is fill his contract full on bonuses, give him something like 4.5mil plus 2mil in bonuses. 6.5mil I think he would stay. We can trade Byron to clear up even more cap space.
-
Look at that who would of thought talented players help win games.
-
Evans has been looking good. Will be a nice 4th/3rd line player.
-
If I am going to trade anyone its going to be lehkonen. Armia is better and the power forward we have been looking for. Lehkonen and Byron to me are expendable
-
Because kovy going to try and get as much points as he can, and lets his numbers speak for themselves. He's going to try and get as much money as he can.

What do you think of Marc Bergevin
Habsfan89 replied to Habs Fan in Edmonton's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
No no no no I am not falling for this ( the red button is back isn't it👀) -
When I judge Bergevin its based on the on ice product. The first 3 years I give him leeway on because that's still part of the old GM. But after 8 years I don't give him leeway on the NHL team, this is his team his plan, and what ever happens with this team is on him. As long as he continues to miss the playoffs he should be held accountable. I don't want to hear it's a reset because its been 3 years now and a reset should be over.
-
Remember it's not just about drafting, player development and drafting go hand n hand. Like I had said player development under Bergevin before the reset was garbage and we're feeling the effects of it now with no NHL ready players coming up from our farm system.

Picking from 20-32 we have had 0 players make any impact in the NHL. Picking from 10-20 we have had MCdonagh, Pacioretty, make impacts in the NHL with Poehling still a question mark. So the years we were a playoff team we Were picking from 22-32. We missed on all of them which we're feeling the affect of it now.
