  1. I've said for years that I would suppport a system like that. However, you can't go punishing accidents like Williams' high stick. I would only advocate such a rule on plays deemed dirty by a special NHL committee. With such a rule in place, guys like Marchment would have no value to their team. I wish I could find my old thread about this, I had a lot of good ideas there. Basically, have a strict suspension for the act itself and then additional suspension time for as long as the other player in injured. I agree that a disgusting hit with no bad consequences should still result in a long suspension. I think such a system would make guys think twice about dirty hits. And as for the argument that it would encourage teams to dress crappy players to injure star players, what's to prevent that now?
  2. Actually, I think your idea is better than mine. I was thinking Huet would be an UFA, so we'd have to pay a bit more for him. But since he is a RFA, hopefully he won't get too greedy and hold out. Were you watching the same games as I was? Sure, he scored some goals, but his defence was awful. He was making all kinds of bonehead plays. He was responsible for probably 5-6 goals. I mean, 10 seconds into the series and he made an awful play that resulted in a goal. He looked absolutely lost out there. He reminds me of Andy Delmore.
  3. Nice catch, I've adjusted my D pairings. Reason I want to move Souray is that I was really disappointed with his play in the playoffs. All the bad stuff should be behind him by now, so that's no excuse. Sure, he scored some goals, but his defensive play was awful. He looked lost out there. Maybe they should try to convert him to forward. He seems to skate decently and with his size and shot he could be a good power forward. And perhaps with less minutes he could be more effective. Just a silly idea though, it would never happen.
  4. Here is where we can concentrate all out talk about what you want the Habs to do this offseason, since there are like 5 threads doing the same thing right now. To start, here is an update list of the team's salary heading into next season and a FA list: http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=821 http://www.geocities.com/floridapanthers2000/free2006.html My own thoughts: Sign Perezhogin, Bouillon, and Komisarek 1,000,000 each. Sign Ryder for 2,000,000-2,500,000 Sign Huet for 2,500,000-3,000,000 Let Bulis, Streit, Sunny, and Dags walk Trade the rights of Ribeiro and Aebi (since they are RFAs) Trade Souray and Zednik Salary so far: 30 million What I want to do with the 9-10 million left: -A #1/2 center to take the pressure off Koivu -A top pairing D-man to replace Souray -A high energy guy to compliment Begin My Dream: We trade Aebi, Ribs, and Souray to Tampa for Brad Richards. Tampa knows they can't keep the big three together and are in need of a goalie. This deal makes some sense for them. In addition, we sign Pavel Kubina as an UFA to replace Souray. Higgins-Koivu-Ryder Kostitsyn-Richards-Kovalev Plekanec-Bonk-Perezhogin Murray-Begin-UFA Markov-Komi Bouillon-Kubina Dandy-Rivet Huet Danis
  5. They are among my favorites, yes. But I started liking them before their Cup run. When EA's NHL title came out that year, my roomate and I looked for a team to use for online play, and he wanted to try Tampa. We were unstoppable with Vinny and Marty. But still, in any sport I always root for whatever team beats mine. I feel better about losing to a winner.
  6. The Habs have plenty of wingers already, especially with Kostitsyn and Latendresse waiting for their big chance. What this team needs is a true #2 center and a defenceman to replace Souray. Souray was a HUGE disappointment this series. Sure, he scored some goals, but his defence was attrocious. IDEA: Spend all offseason working with Souray learning how to play forward. He could be a great power-forward with his size and shot. He simply isn't a defenceman I am comfortable with on my blueline.
  7. 1. Kostitsyn getting a real chance. 2. Higgins and Plex playing big roles 3. A new 2nd line Center 4. D-men who don't make such major mistakes 5. Latendresse living up to the hype he created last fall What a silly statement. Kostitsyn didn't even play! How could he score? And how can you knock Plex? He was one of the best players for the Habs this series. He may not have scored any goals, but he played his ass off and made things happen. I'm excited about what he will do next year with a full season under his belt.
  8. My ideal offseason would see the Habs bring in Michael Peca and Pavel Kubina. I want to see Ribeiro, Bulis, and Souray leave. I also predict that Habs will trade Aebi. He isn't going to settle for a backup role and will be able to demand more money than we'd want to pay for a backup anyways. I say we should go hard after Richards. Offer anyone on my list of guys I want gone. (They do need a goalie, and Souray could replace Kubina.) I know it's a pipe dream, but how awesome would it be to trade Souray, Ribs, and Aebi for Richards and then sign Kubina in free agency? Kubina is twice the player Souray is and Richards is a stud. P.S. I am pretty sure Briere is a RFA.
  9. Sure, he has bargaining power, but he still only played half a season and one playoff series. He is in no position to demand tons of money. He'll sign a decent one year deal and prove why he should earn more.
  10. A game they can be proud of. I can accept losing when the team plays hard. I look forward to using Theo's salary and the increased cap to get some more good talent to add to the young talent that we already have.
  11. Always have to root for the team that knocks out the Habs. Then we can at least say we lost to the Champs.
  12. Don't forget to put golf ahead of tennis. Golf is on every weekend, while network TV practically only shows the majors in tennis.
  13. In the end, I think Jordan's college experience is what will set him apart from LeBron. College is where you grow up and mature into being a man. LeBron missed out on that, and we thrown right into a man's world. It's incredible that he's done this well without that growing period. It will be another couple years before he fully matures, I think. Just look how long it took for a guy like Jermaine O'Neal to become a good player. That being said, the NBA sucks.
  14. Let's stop this "next season" crap. We can talk about next season once THIS season is over. That being said, I would love it if Bulis were benched tonight. I also wouldn't ming Ribs being benched, but that would require playing Higgins at Center, which he hasn't done in a while. So my lines would be: Higgins-Plekanec-Kovalev Kostitsyn-Bonk-Ryder Perezhogin-Begin-Zednik Sunny-Ribeiro-Murray Markov-Komi Dandy-Rivet Souray-Cube I would split up Souray/Rivet and play each of them with guys who are playing really hard.
  15. I for one, have watched every finals game since 1993. (Aside from the 1995 finals, when I was in a lodge in Canada with no television.) The Cup finals are exciting for me no matter who is playing.
  16. So you think if there is an all Canadian final, that NBC would ignore their contract and not show the Finals? That's ridiculous. That being said, if US fans don't have anyone to root for, they won't watch. Only true hockey fans such as myself would have a great deal of interest in it.
  17. I think a small number of Habs played poorly tonight, but aside from the PP, they played pretty well. Lots of guys were skating hard and we got our fair share of opportunities. Unfortunately for us, Cam Ward played an outstanding game. If Huet isn't screened on those two goals, we'd have won 1-0.
  18. Yeah, he went to play in the Swiss leagues. Looks like he coached in Victoriaville in the Q last year. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdispla...?pid%5B%5D=3048
  19. I think the majority of the team played very hard. I just think that the minority of guys who looked dead out there (Ribs, Bulis, and Souray) are all people notice since they look so bad. Other guys like Dandy were flying out there.
  20. That is a loss I can live with. They were flat early, but most of the guys played really hard. The PP wasn't very good, but we still had our chances. Cam Ward played a great game, you have to give him credit. He won the game, we didn't necessarily lose it.
  21. I only got to see Game 3, and I wasn't impressed by Theo's play. I was watching with an Avs fan, and he wasn't very comfortable with Theo in there. He was looking behind him after every save. He only faced 20 shots a game in the first three wins. He seemed very average in those games. Game 5, however, he was obviously huge. I don't care if all 52 shots he faced were routine, he still stopped 50 of them. Either way, I'm more than happy with Huet in net and I wish Theo the best.
  22. Looked like Adams was slipping down anyways, but Bonk cross-checked him in the back. You can't fault the refs on that one.
