Sure, they have no 1st, but like you say they have a "few" prospects in the system. How many do the Habs have? Its truly scary but the Laffs have completely out drafted Timmins by far over the last few years. Its true, and its not because of draft picks traded away either. The Laffs have 1 guy in the OHL right now thats NHL ready now, and no he's not off to the NCAA after the OHL. I honestly think the Laffs might pull off a playoff birth if they become smart enough to call Kadri up.
-
Yep. But like it matters if nothing changes the pick will be NCAA for 4 years. :puke: Thats why I like Belle, Timmins didnt pick him.
-
Why does it seem that when the puck is passed to a Habs on their wrong side they are cocked and ready for a 1 times, but when its a tape to tape pass they always receive the pass instead of 1 timing it?
-
Reminder for the upcoming PP: PP only last for 2 mins, so shoot the damn puck!! They looked like they were PK out there on their last PP.
-
jeez, they look lost defensively out there. Whats with the insistance to all be watching the same guy? Sure you need to be watching the puck somewhat, but you have your own guy to be covering too. They keep making bad silly decisions.

I liked what I saw too. That goal was a complete fluke accident, totally not his fault. Belle had 1 nice shit from the point, which looked harder and more precise than any shot I've seen Weber do so far this year, and people say Weber has a great shot. I definitely would like to see Belle get the opportunity to take more shots to see if he has a consistent hard shot with accuracy from the point. The Habs need somebody with a hard shot from the point who can get pucks through to the net.

I agree with Wamsley and brobin. Theres no reason why Price didnt stop that one. It could have reflected off every player 10 times and if a goalie doesnt have his 5 hole closed and you can slide a curling rock through it how are all the deflections a legitimate excuse for not doing 1 of the most basics goalie moves and resembling swiss cheeze? Every goalie in the AHL probably would have stopped that, and most in the ECHL probably would have to. Think aboot it. Price is down on his knees on the ice, sure the puck deflects twice, but the pucks not that high off the ice ice and somehow it goes right through Price so the deflections are and excuse? It reminds me of last year when 2 Habs laid down to block a shot and somehow the puck slid right under both of them and in. :puke: Halak should be playing. Sure Halak hasnt been stellar yet, but he never is immediately anyway. Every time Halak gets stretches of games the first few arent great but he keeps getting better and better. Lets give that a chance. Price literally scares me now. I've noticed something for a while now and I have yet to see it happen since I 1st realized it and its an extremely scary trend. I will most likely get flamed even more for this "crazy" epiphany because nobody will like it but here it goes: Price is absolutely inept at backing his teammates up after somebody makes a mistake. I cant recall off the top of my head a single save Price has made that has bailed out a teammates mistake. Even when the puck gets intercepted in the other teams zone and they go on a breakaway its pretty much a goal every time. Remember Gorges goof in his 1st year when he coughed the puck up, Price was a sieve, Booo Gorges - that goal ws stoppable, but Price basically floppes around like a fish out of water at times. There seems to be something wrong with him between the ears in situations like that because he seems to choke almost every time. In the Van game several of the 1st 3 goals were stoppable, but not Prices fault, somebody made a mistake. Seriously its getting old. I swear that Price and all the Price lovers seem to be like Ricky from the Trailer Park Boys. i.e. its always somebody elses fault. At some point Price has to start making saves that backup and cover for his teammates mistakes. If Price can only make saves from his positioning and size than the Habs need to call up Missean.

Just as long as the Habs dmen can refrain from heading the puck into the net they should be able to pull off a win tonight. Go :hlogo: Go!!

If Komi makes "big hits" then apparently the basis for a good hit must be putting yourself way out of position to make a hit where the hit player gets up instantly and often has better positioning in the play on the hitter after the hit. A big player making a hit doesnt constitute a "big hit" -
The Habs had the bragging rights of "our prospects beat your prospects because your prospects arent around because they are good enough to actually be in the NHL already". Does that really mean something? or have Habs fans completely overrated that Calder win?

That link completely supports what I said: what "big hits" No kidding, but those are probably the best top 10 of his hits. In all but 1 of those hits every player gets up instantly and in the 1 you dont see the guy get its because he is off the screen, I'm sure he got up too. Top 10 weakest hits from a huge guy where the other guy gets up instantly is more like it. In 1 of the clips the guy actually manages to get the puck back, and in basically all of them the player is still in the play, but Komi is left way out of position after the hit. Exactly like I said, Komis hits are completely Tuckerish in nature: big sound, little damage. You want to see a real Top 10 big hits give this a gander: See, people are concussed, players are laying on the ice, they're being carried off, every player is totally out of the play after the hit, etc in basically every 1 of the 10 hits. Thats a real hitter. In Komi's top 10 not 1 of any of those things happened, not one. Say what you want aboot Komi's big hits, its a complete joke. Now consider this, Stevens was only 6'-2" 215 lbs, Komi is 6'-4" 240. Whats his excuse? -
I agree, except for the never fights any actual fighters. That suggests that he fights non fighters, and all he really does is just push and shove people. Its very rare that I've seen him throw an actual punch, all of his fights more resemble a wrastling match. In the Komi Moen wastle off Komi was lucky as hell that he was grabbing Moes arms so Moen couldnt get his arm free to throw a punch. Had Moen freed his arm I'm fairly sure that if he punched Komi once with a hard shot Komi would probably start crying. My one buddy whos a Laff fan was impressed by that fight, and said Komi kicked Moes ass, and I'm pretty sure that I didnt see any punches thrown in that fight. Komi just pushed and shoved Moen and pinned his arms so Moen couldnt take a swing at him, and then Komi wrastled Moen to the ground before Moen could free his arms and kick Komis ass. It was so funny, we were talking, and he was already thinking ahead aboot the Laffs 1st rnd draft position and that they'll at least get somebody good out of this season of suckage. He was so bummed when I reminded him Boston would be drafting somebody really good with their pick. I also agree with Colins assessment. I think Komi primarily made the NHL because of his size, not his skill, and he probably has a between the ears issue. After all look where he signed because of the direction they were going. Usually players join teams that are heading up in the standings, not nose diving.

I unno, personally I was never completely sold on Komi. I think Habs fans have overrated him because he was on their team, plus he's big so everybody liked him because of his possible potential being his size. Komi has never lived up to his size potential, and at this point I'm fairly certain that he never will. Komi is by far pound for pound the largest whimp in the NHL. Its sad, but totally true. Everybody talks aboot Komi's big hits, and I dont really know what they are on aboot. Komi's "big hits" literally remind me of lil Darcy Tucker. i.e. take a run at somebody against the boards and throw yourself into the boards making a big loud impressive thud sound. It only appears that he mad a huge bone crushing hit from the sound them throwing himself into the boards. At least when Tucker takes runs at people they sometimes stay down, with Komi they pretty much always get up, so how big are his hits really? All Komi really does when he makes "big hits' is take himself way out of position. Markov and Habs F were able to help compensate for that, but the Laffs arent defensive enough to be able to handle having a dman out near the blue line and along the side boards. -
Chips? You are right though aboot the Habs having problems drafting larger forwards, but that doesnt mean they should never try it again. My primary complaint regarding BPA is Bob refusal of being decisive making a long term commitment and locking in 3 players for a specific position so they can target other weaker positions. Also the fact the most of the team only had 1 or 2 year deals doesent show the players that Bob has confidence in them. Plus long term contracts when players are young and just breaking into the NHL can be had for cheaper if you sign them before they have break out years and they realize their true worth.

Hahaha, thats funny, and MAB is 5'7". Belle is definitely ripped, one of the announcers commented aboot how muscular Bell is when he saw Belle with his shirt off in the dressing room during one of the preseason games Belle was in. It seems Belle has only played in 9 NHL games so far. Belle is only 24 so I dont think his NHL boat has sailed quite yet, but your right he needs to show progress and not play his way off the Habs for him to stick around. Hopefully he can surprise us all. 24 isnt that old for a dman, but he should start playing in the NHL more regularly if he will ever make it full time.

People can list the names of the NCAA players other teams have drafted that have panned out all they want. Ask the Kings if drafting Cammy worked out for them? They can also say all they want aboot Russian no shows. The list of elite young Russians playing in the NHL is bigger than the list of elite young NCAA alumni. If I were the Molsons I would be asking Bob why the majority of the Habs 1st, 2nd and 3rd rnd picks all off to US colleges for 4 years. Oh, and I forgot, drafting the Best player available is garbage. That needs to be stopped. The Habs need to draft the best player available for position that they need filled. I'm sick of them drafting so many 5'-10-6' 180-195 lbs guys because they were BPA when there were bigger larger guys drafted slightly after them who the Habs actually could have used because they arent like all the 5'-10-6' 180-195 lbs prospect in Hamilton. Just wait until the BPA is a G and they draft him. Bobs previous refusal of long term contracts has helped screw the Habs in drafting aswell, but now with CGG the problem might have been alleviated a bit, but it still exists because he has 1 entire line locked in long term. If Bob had locked in some players with long term contracts than they could draft knowing those positions are filled for the next X years and then draft players for the positions that arent locked in long term. The easiest way to do this is lock in 3 players in the same position. ex Pitts, C, Malkin, Crosby, Staal, they dont need to draft a C for at least 3 years so they can target other positions that they arent as strong in. The way Bob drafts and signs contracts the Habs will never have this luxury. I kow the Habs wont get 3 elite C like Pitts, but they could still pick 3 C's (or any other position) they are happy with and commit to them so they can target other positions.

I havent had an opportunity to see much of Belle, so I'm not sure what he is like defensively, but I know from his info he is definitely solid. He's 6' 1" 240 lbs so he could be stronger than BGL. Hopefully Belle can capitalize on his callup and show us some good signs. I would definitely like to see something positive from him, with his size/strength he could be very useful if he's not a defensive liability.
-
I imagine something like "Balls, the Habs are worst overall" The Habs could be winless to if Komi hadnt left. The only positive difference would be that the Habs actually have their 1st rnd pick, unlike the Laffs.

Personally I dont blame Bob exclusively for his lack of success, but he definitely has his part to do with the problem. I strongly beleive that its Timmins who should be fired. After all its Timmins Bob listens to when he drafts players. Sure Timmins is great at drafting gems late in the draft. However wake up people, the 8th and 9th rounds no longer exist, so no more Halaks, Striets, S Kosts, etc. In the 1st 2 rnds Timmins hasnt really drafted anybody of significance. Interesting question: How many NCAA guys the Habs drafted are on the Habs roster now? Basically 0. Sure you can argue that Patch and OB played NCAA, but they never said "I'm thinking beyond my pro hockey career and my priority is to go to school and get a degree". Patches and OB only played in the NCAA for a in the meantime so they didnt have to play ECHL or be put into the log jam that is the Bulldogs. Their priorities were always hockey. Any prospect who says their priority is school should be skipped. Seriously, its just dumb, and Timmins blatantly wastes over 50% of the Habs picks on prospects whos priority is to get a degree. Not a damn one of these "I'm going to college" picks is anywhere ready to play for the Habs. Wake up, the experiment was a complete failure, figure it out now. I think its absolutely hilarious that people are mad over the Gomez trade. McDoughnut was drafted in 07 and still has 2 years of NCAA left and then he'll be in the AHL for at least 1 year, possibly longer. I doubt we will see him in the NHL before he's 24, so the Rags will only have him for 2 maybe 3 years at best before he's a UFA. Now consider how Bob is with handling contracts. i.e. If Habs still had McDontknow Bob would do the usual thing and sign him to a 1-2 year entry deal during which McD would say "gee, I like it here, I want to sign long term", to which Bob would say, "no no, lets wait till the off season", and in the summer McD's agent would say "lets wait and sign next year", in his 1st UFA eligible year, in which McDough would want to be shown the money and the Habs loose him. This phenomenon I can only explain as a vicious circle of stupidity. Lots of people here said in the SK wants a trade thread to never draft any more Russians, but I swear theres more Russians that have played more games for the Habs than all of their wasted NCAA picks and people still cheer when Bob drafts even more NCAA picks. After all theres at least 1 Russian on the Habs that actually worked out and lasted beyond his 1st UFA opportunity.

I used to like both of them. Personally I think the Laffs really only needed one of them, if even one at all. Both are supposed to be saviors and a team only needs so many large dmen that are slow that like to take themselves way out of position for the sake of making a hit. Both seem to be penalty prone and are defensive liabilities. Both of them truly need an all star dmen to be paired with and both cant play with Kaberle. MacGuire is so smart, he knew Markov would be exposed to Prices skate if Komi wasnt around. They still have Finger, who is actually fairly decent, although most people dont really know who he is. Ironically I beleive that Fletcher did a better GM job than Burke, and JFJ was probably even better than Fletcher. I'm also loving the Laffs Gainey Carbo problem that they have going on right now. Burke and Wilson are really good friends, and he doesnt want to fire him. Usually when a new GM comes in he brings in his own coach, but Wilson was there before Burke. Are the Komi lovers still pissed off that Bob didnt resign him? The Habs could have been worst overall too. -
w0w, thats crazy, I didnt realise he pulled a similar thing with the Bulldogs. I think that this is actually his 3rd time then because didnt he miss a flight or something before with the Habs for a game he would be a healthy scratch? I vaguely remember some other "incident" anyways with the Habs which ended up being a non incident really but it was still something. I dont really blame SK though for not reporting to the Bulldogs Calder run to watch from the stands because of how great his OHL line was but then again I guess it was really cocky considering his older bro had just barely cracked the Habs roster after playing 2 years in Hamilton.

Sk asking for a trade seems to be worse and worse on a game by game basis. So far none of the AHL callups have impressed me at all so getting rid of SK could be a really bad thing. I know he has potential and will get there eventually and if he's gone will the others ever get to his potential? Its not looking like it so far. SK is probably the best of the bunch. It sucks he was so quick to demand a trade. It definitely looks like he will be back for the Habs and before the Habs want him back. That could be extremely bad if SK doesnt learn anything from this and thinks he got his way only for lack of progress from the other rookies. SK was sent down to learn some D and to teach him to work harder every shift. If he's called up to soon the entire concept for him being called down will backfire.
-
I agree. So far the youngsters have seem to only have accomplished 1 thing: salary cap relief. However pylons are cheap too, and they dont go to the media demanding a trade when you send them back to the parking lot. Not sure aboot the practices though. They might be better off with a week of rest, after all they've played 4 games now. Its to bad, Price should have played the last game, and Halak started tonight. The goalies should play till they loose and then swap. The idea of Price playing at home could have been motivation for him to win in Calgary. If he didnt win, let Halak start in Van. Oh well for Price, he should have a long career and will be back in front of family and friends in Van.

damn, I would have loved to have installed the $3 mil carpet in the Nucks dressing room. Me likes 2.9 mil profit margins. $3 mil on carpet, thats just stupid.

jeebus, the Habs are sure putting the blow in blowout tonight.
