Jaromir Jagr is a verry talanted player. But I don't think he could bring what this team needs. First of all. His salary is almost as hefty as the whole Penguins team exept for Mario. I think Jagrs agent has destroyed his career. All the teams that are contenders are that good cause they have a mix. And nobody wan't to add that much money for a point per game when you can get two players that produces a half point per game for the same price. Easily. Jagr has three options. Stay in Washington and rebuild the team from scratch or he will have to accept less money. He is good but not 11 million good and he should know it. The last option is something different. Why don't give Lemieux a call. Ask for a trade from Washington to Pittsburg, buy 50% of the team and buy himself out. And then re-sign him self for about 5.5 million, wich I think is his value?

No thanks. For thoose money we could add so much more needed players.
-
I posted the same think in the MAKE A TRADE thread earlier today... But I don't know about this one. Sure it would be a nice thing to add a right handed big center. But don't you think that Perreault could give us something better in return if we packed him up with Kilger and a prosepect? And if we are going to rent a player for the playoff why shouldn't we be able to get somehing much better?
-
The team that will take Savage will have a non lethal savage Savage that cost 7 million dollars for two years. No way in hell! But it would be a different story if Brian could play the at the same level a whole season. Always among the scoring leaders after 10 games, but then... Well most of you should know what i mean.
-
I just heard that the Ottawa Sun wrote something about Mike Eastwood was a possible trade. Penguins would get Perreault in return. No thanks, for me. But what do you other say?
-
I'm happy as long as he doesn't make a "Houle". As a wrote in the Andreï Markov thread... 1. We don't have a chance to get the cup. So why add salary for nothing? 2. There's this "lock-out" situation. It may be. Hope not, but who knows? And we still have some buy-out players left on the payroll. So it have to be a rent or a REALLY well needed piece in our big Montreal-puzzle. But if we could make an even trade then it's a different story. But we don't really have anything thats somebody else would wan't. Perreault will give us nothing since he is a UFA by next season. Sundström has played well lately and I wan't him to stay. The only ones that I can think of is Hossa, Kilger and Dackell. But really... They won't fetch us much. No O'Niel nor a Arnott.
-
But what's going to happen if there will be no next season. The european clubs are allready negotiating about salary dumps with their current players so they can afford to bring home the sons. MoDo in Sweden would have a team with: Peter Forsberg Markus Näslund Niclas Sundström Henrik Sedin Daniel Sedin Hans Jonsson Per Svartvadet Andreas Salomonsson Anders Eriksson Pierre Hedin Samuel Påhlsson Mattias Timander Mattias Weinhandl I wish, I wish...

Agree. Keep Zednik. I think he could score 40 with offensive team. Every team needs a goalscorer. And we have one. And if Ryder will continue we will have two. Almost untouchable.

Really sad. But I have a few questions... 1. Why Andrei with a ï ? Never seen that one before. And I'm pretty sure that's a letter that's not common in the cyrilic alphabet... So? 2. Someone said something about Gainey don't have the quickest finger on the trigger. In fact, I think that's a good thing. I'd pick Gainey over Sather or Burke any given sunday But I do think he has some plans. Maybe it is to wait until he knows what will happen next season. We allready have Czerkawski, McKay and Audette on the payroll. And if there will be a lockout next season will the Canadiens have to pay anyways? Does anybody knows? Or is the buy-out period over by next season? I beleave that if he will add a player for the playoffs it will be a play-off rent or a player that is verry, verry well needed. And the "Montreal-divided" situation may cause some headache. Whom to trade and whom to keep. I don't think that it would be verry popular to trade Koivu, but we canät have a capitain who fights our younger stars at practice. And it also seems that it was not a coincidece after the Dagenais vs. Rivet thing... So... Im fine with Gainey doing nothing untill we knows what's going to happen next season. If he keeps his head cool maybe he will be able to make a big boost via UFA or trade ín the offseason. And we really don't have a team that will win the cup. Better to think long-term.

Some bad third periods now... Seems like the Habs needs to visit the gym. But at least we are still in the play-off run. And I think we will make it. In about two weeks we will know... 1. If there will be any addition the the team. Like bringing in a Ryan Smyth type. 2. The Souray situation. 3. If we are still in the race. If things goes our way, we will make it and add some power up front.

Jackman is only 25. I think Pens did a goood trade.

I just can't understand why NHL won't listen to europeans in this issue. The biggest problem NHL has is the red-line offside. When we took it away in Sweden hockey became so more fun. More goals and more people at the games. In Elitserien there is 12 teams. 8 teams has a new arena or are building one right now... Take a look at SM-Liiga in Finland. More chances in both directions. (Maybe a bit to much in my opinion)

Hedberg?! And Magic Nilsson. Håkan Loob, then? The only player that has won it all. The World championship, Stanley Cup and the Olympcis as a player.
-
Mmmm... Ryan Smyth... That would be tasty. But I am affraid that it's just speculation. Smyth will play for Edmonton his whole life. And if he doesn't he will end up in Calgary. That's destiny. Just take a look at his name and the place he was born.

I think the idea is to free up cash for Sean Burkes 4.2 million dollars. And if they want a defenceman I'm pretty sure Gainey can GIVE away Dykhuis for FREE. (That was a joke.)
-
That's a verry typical american answer... ONE european players among those 25. Hockey is being played in Finland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Russia and Slovakia at a verry hight level. Remember that the CCCP beat Canada in the Canada Cup finals in 1981 with 8 to 1. And in Sweden we had a guy called Sven "Tumba" Johansson. He was a part of the national teams in golf, Soccer and icehockey. And he was capitain in all team. And the best. Americans hasn't even heard of him... Tretiak is common knows as the best goalie ever... Ever heard of "Honken"? Börje Salming has played 6 All-star games. So has Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson and Ken Dryden...
-
Hey V! Your picture messed up the whole boards. I can't even see the text. So please change it. And having team mates fighting on practice can never be a good thing.
-
I hope that Dykhuis will play and that the reason is that someone is intrested. Habs are paying this guy 1.7 million dollars to play and what is he doing in Hamilton? I remembered when we got Dykhuis that I tought that it was pretty good to bring a solid blueliner. I mean he was a part of the team that made it all the way to the finals versus Detroit in 96. But right now, all I see is a useless body. Maybe he can teach something to the prospects in Hamilton but I think that there's better options that costs less then 1.7 million.
-
Wouldn't be cool if we traded Hossa for Senators pick that would give us Ryder? Errr...
-
Not even top 25? Hmmmm... Put todays Forsbergs in Orr's Bruins and I think that the history would have been different. But I can agree with Mario. He is awesome. But I just migh think that Forsbergs is a more complete player. In my opinion Fedorov and Forsbergs are the two most complete.
-
Am I just blinded by the fact that Peter Forsbergs is the best swedish hockey player ever (Sorry Börje Salming) or is Peter Forsberg the greatest of all time? I asked myself why Peter Forsbergs is better than Wayne Gretzky (who is common knows as the best of all time). And here's what I came up with. 1. Gretzky had his best during the 80's in Edmonton. But the game was different then. Nobody touched Gretzky and goaltenders level was weak from time to time. 2. In the second half of his career he didn't dominate the same way he did in the early years. Gretzky was a fantastic hockeyplayer but I wonder how well he would have done in todays hockey. Forsberg is the complete package. He does it all. And what if Forsberg would have been 15 years older? Off course it's impossible to compare. But I'm just saying that Forsberg is a heck of a player. Maybe the best. Or have I just insulted alla Rocket Richard fans?
-
Maybe. But Markov hasn't been the same since Petrov left. And we need another physical blueliner. That's why I would call it an even trade.
-
When I say that we need a defenceman that can move the puck I suggest that Andrei Markov is the only one that's really good at doing this. Brisebois knows the theory but simply can't. Souray? From what I've seen this season he's a threath every time he comes in the offensive zone, but is it really Sheldon that transports the puck? I'm talking Brian Leetch type of player. A players that makes the time in the offensive zone more common than the the time in the defensive... (Could anybody read that?) And if that trade was done, I think it would have been for Andrei Markov. Salary match. Even trade I say.
-
I would love to have Denis Gauthier. But I don't really see him fit in. He's shooting left. And so is both Souray and Markov. Would that mean that Gauthier would be on the third pair? And he is a stay-at-home blueliner. And I have always said that we need a puck-carryer to beat teams that still uses "the trap".
-
Agree. Lines, trades, prospect and free agent signing... Speculation-material.
