I have been quiet, but I'm sure others agree.  All 3 of you need to piss off with the useless back and fourth. It's getting irritating. People have different opinions. If someone doesn't agree with yours, it's OK. Get over it and move on. People get their feelings hurt and feel singled out. It happens. Understand that it happens and stop escalating.  I'm gonna start looking for another board soon. Ive been on this board since ESPN in 2000. It's getting old. All 3 of you need to back off of each other. Little kindness during the holiday season?

Brian laid the hammer down and took care of it in another thread.  I’m only acknowledging it so it doesn’t get started again in a different thread because, like you, I’m tired of the squabbling.  I had to take a step back awhile ago because of it.

  2. On the Jiricek front, it seems as if Waddell has 5-6 concrete offers on the table.  Not sure what the offers are but they’re good enough that apparently some people are surprised a deal wasn’t reached Monday.

The main teams being thrown around are Minnesota, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. San Jose and Buffalo seem to be in the mix too.

TBH I have a hard time believing that there truly are three more impressive rookies than Hutson. The kid has stepped in, eaten monster minutes, and been a ridiculous driver of offence so far while playing on a crap team. At this early juncture, he is perhaps the single most impressive Habs rookie I've ever seen. (Maybe second only to Price). I'd hazard that if he had higher draft pedigree, he would be #1-2 on most people's lists.

The Calder likes to favour points.  If it's within less than a 10 point spread, I agree Hutson should be the favourite.

The Rangers are in a big funk. The have lost 4 in a row and then go into Philly and get outshout 15-4 in the 1st period. Something is not right there. I expect something to shake things up there soon.

Rumour has it Kreider, Trouba and Kakko are on the block.  They also believe they need to shake up their lineup.

I don't think his value is high right now. I think you need to let Dach work through his issues. He looked so good before the injury. I think he just needs some time.  I hope anyway.

I'm with you on that.  Was just asking questions.

The real test will be in the new year after Laine, a pure goal scorer, is back and comfortable with the team.  Dach's skill set should compliment Laine, and vice-versa, really well.  I think by the end of the season if there's no real improvement, which I do expect to see, maybe there's a conversation to be had about Dach's place on the team.

Appreciate your contributions here on this forum.

Thanks brother, appreciate yours.  Unless that's just sarcasm, then in that case Fu....  I'm just joking, the animosity in the forums lately is infectious.  Trying to lighten the mood with my off brand humor.  Don't feel bad, the wife doesn't find it funny either.

But ... is his value high?

He did have a good season prior to getting injured, the next season we didn't see what he could do because of injury.  He's had a slow start, but you could argue that's because outside Suzuki and Caufield, nobody is having a good season.  The injuries definitely will play a huge factor, but the longer he continues to be not very noticeable on the ice, the lower his value.  Hence why now would be considered high as it'll certainly decrease if he doesn't turn it around.

Yeah I’m worried about it too. My current opinion is the year off, the surgery, the new system is causing Dach grief.

I want to keep him because I think he will rebound and his skill is incredible.

Habs don’t have high end centres in their system so I hope Dach puts it back together.

What kind of return do you think Dach would fetch?

I think everyone shares your opinion and is chalking it to the same.

As for value, he was acquired for a mid round 1st and an early 3rd.  I think with his injury history it's definitely gone down.  I really want to believe he's worth a mid round 1st, but that's probably me being bias.  He's probably worth a mid to late round 1st, not accounting for the trading team's needs.

This is also not saying I want to see him traded, just asking questions more than anything.

I don’t want to move Dach at all. The offer would have to be outstanding to make me consider.

I'm not sure the Penguins even have anything we would want.

No going to lie, Dach's slow start this season has me wondering if we may be better off moving him while his value is high.  Don't get me wrong, I really want Dach to be the player we expect him to be, and this regression could be related to the whole team regressing.  I just think it's worth exploring if management doesn't believe Dach is what they expected him to be.

From Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun (in the context of the Sens looking for defensive help):

Garrioch is one of those who throws a lot of stuff out there but enough come true that I don't dismiss it outright.  But I'd be surprised if they were shopping Struble.

The legitimacy that is added to it is Montreal is still pretty stocked at LD.  It could very well be a case of trying to sell Struble while he's performing well as Montreal don't expect him to get significantly better.

It's a bit hard to see a fit, though. I doubt that JA and/or Savard will impress them any more than they impress us. (Though I like JA). Frankly, Brendan Gallagher would be a much likelier trade chip to get a deal done. The Rags would surely be interested in him, if they are in win-now mode, given his resurgence this season.

I look at it as the Rangers are in win now mode.  I don't see how taking on a $6.5m 3rd liner helps that push.  If he were cheaper, I bet they would be interested.  I don't think Montreal would have much interest in retaining a large amount of Gallagher's contract for 2 more season after this one.

JA was a stretch, but does have some good upsides to go with his low offensive IQ.  Savard could be a cheaper replacement if they move Trouba and value wise Savard's projected return isn't much lower than what you'd expect NYR would get for Kakko.  If the Rangers aren't in win now mode, I would agree they wouldn't have much interest in Savard.

  10. Along with Trouba and Kreider, the Rangers have made Kakko available again.  It might be worth kicking tires on him.  Rangers would want roster player above picks or prospects.  Savard or Evans could be a good starting point.  They may even take some interest in Anderson as he would be a similar type of player as Kreider.  Less overall skill obviously.

Really, both Barron and Jiricek are in very similar situations: neither has been able to get consistent playing time on a weak team.

The biggest difference is Barron is 2 years older and has been given ample opportunity, over 100 games across 4 seasons with almost the same amount in the AHL, and hasn’t stood out as a consistent NHL player.  Also Jiricek has a higher ceiling than Barron ever did.

I get what you are saying but Jiricek is still a prospect that hasn't been able to get playing time on a team that isn't exactly a powerhouse.

From all reports, Jiricek's projection hasn't changed.  Still expected to be a good top-4 defenseman, whether it be 2nd pair or first.  As for his playing time, he's 21, which is very hard for young a defenseman that's not an offensive dynamo like Hutson to keep getting icetime.  They could very well be trying to not rush him to the NHL, which is a smart move for his development.  I agree with @GHT120 that Wadell hangs up on that trade.

No doubt there will be a lot of interest, 6th overall pick from 2 years ago, RD. Maybe the Habs other 1st round pick, plus a 2nd or a 3rd? Is that enough? Montreal certainly has the picks to offer.

It would take something like that for sure, but I don't think they discuss this year's 1st.  It would have to be protected anyway as it's looking like a lottery pick right now.  You'd have to assume Columbus wants a pick for this year.  Most likely scenario is a 2nd+ along with a prospect.

The only way I see this year's 1st being in play is if it comes with a conditional 1st from Columbus if Montreal's pick is 5-10, being decided by Columbus at that point.

Josh Gosse and Jesse Poirier from Habs Digest on YouTube any good ?

They have clickbait headlines and they grab hold of other peoples rumours sometimes, but they make a good show of it.

Top Shelf Hockey guy I like the most on youtube…. He seems to talk about real news and you can cut straight to the spots you want to listen to to save time.

    Anyone else worthwhile ?

If they resort to clickbait headlines, I would be very hesitant that they have any actual insider information.  Chances are, the only true rumours they have are ones from other people, not insiders.  Clickbait headlines are typically more about getting website visits/views for ad revenue than actual rumours.

  15. Chris Johnston reporting Columbus has received a lot of discussions on Jiricek, but is now adjusted the asking price from a prospect-in-kind to include a package of picks.

You’d have to believe Montreal is heavily involved in this.  With the Slafkovsky connection and thin RD, not that Jiricek is a short term solution.

  16. The issue with tanking 3 seasons into the rebuild is there would be jobs lost.  I don't think playoffs are a realistic expectation, but I also don't believe being a favorite for the 1st overall pick is an acceptable outcome either.  I've said myself before if you're not making the playoffs you try to finish as low as possible, but 3 seasons into the rebuild there has to be signs of improvement not regression.

That being said, I agree with @Habs Fan in Edmonton about Laine.  Montreal did trade Harris to improve offensively, but up to this point it's been effectively getting weaker on defense for no gain, due to the injury.

To Ottawa: David Savard and our best 2024 2nd round pick

To Montreal: 2026 1st round pick

Ottawa fills a hole on D left by the Zub injury, can flip Savard at deadline if they are out of the playoff race.

Habs keep adding high draft picks to their collection.

Like the idea, but as it stands right now Ottawa is looking at a lottery pick as well, so it would be a conditional 1st which would probably get pushed to next year.  So it's Savard and a high 2nd round for what could be a mid-to-late 1st next year.
