  1. I've skipped the tournament and only watched highlights. I am disappointed for the Canadian team but happy for the other teams who seem to have successfully attain a great level. It bodes well for hockey.
  2. I do not think it is wise if the Habs trade Savard or Matheson this year. Even next year, trading Savard would not be wise if try to forecast because there is too much uncertainty on how well Mailloux and Barron may or may not play next year. I am not a fan of Savard's play, but even I can see how much he stabilizes the defense core and how much of a positive influence he is on the team. Also, I doubt the Habs other LDs can produce as many points as Matheson produces. They are not at that level yet.
  3. last year, like in 2023. We are in 2024 now not last season: leading to picking 5th (Reinbacker)
  4. injuries is a part of the reason he is there. But for over one month he has been the most consistent right winger and for that he has earned it.
  5. You are probably right on the contract dump, which I do not want since the Habs already have their share of that
  6. Suzuki and Slafkovsky are a better duo right now, they complement well each other: can dangle in traffic, are very good along the boards, have good vision and do go to the front of the net. They would be better served by Newhook right now than Caufield. I am still peeved at last year's draft where we did not tank to pick top-3, I really wanted the Habs to load up on elite forward talent last year. Let's hope Caufield finds his touch again. Go Habs Go!
  7. after watching him turn over the puck on the first goal against TBL and play goalie in front of Montembeault on the third goal... I am not sure Habs get much in return. Late 2nd in my flustered state right now. Probably a decent prospect (mid-6 forward potential) and a 3rd.
  8. if it is the injury, I hope it is not the type that forever limits him, like Drouin's wrists (I could not think of anything else, not looking to trigger anyone). His goal where he stole the puck from Stamkos was great and if that is the type of player he may become, I would not mind. I am glad his latest drought comes under MSL as coaching will not be questioned; last time it happened it got the coach fired. I am hopeful that he will learn from this season and be a more productive player in the future. I have felt most of the time he would hover around 30 goals for the best part of his career, and because of my lower expectations I am happy with his development.
  9. Xhekaj and Mailloux are playing well together Farrel has looked very good in the few games I’ve watched. for some reason I get Simoneau and Trudeau on the ice even if they do not play the same position. I like how Simoneau plays For some reason, I do not believe Kidney will do much on the ice just for him to make some flashy play that makes me rethink my bias against him I like how Gignac, Condotta and McKay play with passion although they are career AHLers. the Rocket has turned the corner and seem to be on an upward trajectory in the standings
  10. He was really solid, in control and well positioned. If he plays this well the rest of the season, the Rocket will be in the playoffs. I think he can be a great tandem with Dobes who has been playing great lately
  11. I do not think Marc Dumont was suggesting playing Xhekaj and Struble as a pair, but that both deserve to be in the NHL. If with the Habs, I understand that as being: LD-RD Struble-RD Xhekaj-RD with one of Guhle, Matheson, Harris being the other NHL-level LDs... and Engstrom and Hutson coming up through the system. That is great depth on LD
  12. in the article he is saying how the Habs are worse off without them in the lineup and how the statistics this season show that the Habs will be better served if both Stuble and Xhekaj are in the NHL roster the rest of the season. It is bold, to me, because it seems to imply that other will be squeezed out and that makes for an interesting consequence if it materializes. You are right, I am probably reading too much into it. Did you read the article? what do you think?
  13. I have liked how well Xhekaj and Mailloux are playing in Laval. If the plan is to have them become a pair and to come up together to become a 2nd-pair with the Habs, I will be very happy about that. === RDS post-game commentators brought up the poor defensive zone coverage by Caufield and also how Caufield and Slafkovsky were affecting negatively Suzuki. I didn;t think they were that bad, but watching the replays they showed to make their point it was hard to deny. The hit on Slaf was clean, MSL said he had been better at avoiding getting hit, and I think he also said that he wil learn form this or something like that: in other words, he didn't seem to think it was a dirty hit. Habs kept up with CAR and could have surprised them if they had shown more intensity. Habs were to flat to my liking. The 4th line played well. Harris and Struble played well. Anderson got a goal and played well. There were some positives
  14. Very bold statement by Marc Dumont; Struble and Xhekaj are NHL-calibre defensemen:
  15. reading your post right after reading your post about Lehkonen on another thread makes me link these two ideas I just hope the loss in production by Caufield is temporary and that he finds his scoring touch as before
  16. shoot, I just realized I put this in the wrong thread. on Beck, there is no guaranty that he will be a successful NHL player; but it is fun to have someone to cheer for. Other love Hutson, who seems like a future star (more than Beck). I just like cheering for this kid.
  17. all I want for Christmas is MVP honours for Owen Beck !
  18. Yes, it should make for an interesting game. I hope the Rocket plays better and that they win in a way that shows that better days are ahead
  19. yes, the cap hit was too much given how many bad contracts the Habs had at the time. It was poor management by MB but he knew he was doomed
  20. checking out was the term I used, I've seen it in other places. Those that are at a job waiting for a confirmation from their nest employer to leave. Still doing a good job in case they need to stay, but also to leave on good terms. He still loved the logo and the city, he was cloning around with journalists. But it is very rare a player does interviews after a Stanley cup playoff while munching on pizza. Once maybe, but every time to become a running gag... that spoke volumes about where his mind was at the time
  21. stop it. Put me on ignore and be gone. You don't read what I write, you spew hate for whatever reason that fuels you without reading. I don't know why you have it against me, Commandant. I just don't get it.
