2025-26 projected lineup discussion
Commandant replied to HabsFan4eternity's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
I would take Tavares who scored 38 goals and over 70 points in a heartbeat. -
Freidman is reporting today that the Ducks are likely to deal Zegras. Weve been over issues with him before and Im not a fan, but hey if he goes somewhere and makes one less team in 2C sweepstakes thats good.

Most draft picks are worth less one year after being drafted. Of course there are exceptions if a prospect has a bigger year than expected and is looked at as a better prospect than he was on draft day. But generally speaking a team would rather have the pick cause they can select the player they want, position they need, etc; rather than a locked in prospect. Comparative value of the draft is a factor too and like I've said here a few times, next year will be a better draft than this one. But the biggest factor is how they perform. For example Michael Hage is probably worth a bit more than the 20th pick where he was taken cause last year's draft was better and he had a strong rookie season with Michigan. A guy like Mesar on the other hand, he had a poor 18 year old season with Kitchener, and was worth less the 25th pick one year after he was drafted.

I hear you, and there were insider reports that the team ideally wanted a young centre who will play with Demidov for years and the two will grow together rather than a stop gap. So its out there that this is what they would prefer. I wasn't asking you to name the player, just pointing it out that its probably someone we haven't heard of. I was just adding on that I just don't know who this player is that is available.
-
Who is available and fits that description? The only guy i see is Marco Rossi and we have info that the Habs are not interested. If Hughes pulls this off, its gonna shock us all.
-
Hes not a top pair guy. But he might be a 3/4. He was third pair in tampa and i think there is more there but top pair seems a stretch. Guhle Hutson Matheson Perbix Struble Carrier
-
Hes never taken 600 faceoffs in a season. His last time taking 500 was 2020.
-
Why do people think they are moving Wright when he had an outstanding second half last year? I see no reason for them to move a 20 year old C who just found his game. Thafs a pipe dream IMO. Catton is also a guy who might be a winger at the NHL level

https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/3302830 Leafs and John Tavares are far apart in extension talks. Apparently the Leafs have him at close to the 4.5m Duchene signed for, while Johnny is looking at the $7.5 million that Brock Nelson got. I'd be fully comfortable giving him 3 years and 7.5 million.
-
My dream move would be tage thompson, but i doubt he's available. But thats the type of guy the second line needs.
-
I get it, there is no bigger ceiling play. If this works its a home run and you have an instant cup contender. If it doesn't work though, he's a Gomez level albatross on he franchise and can really damage what has been built by tying up cap space in an untradeable player. I understand those who see the upside and think ivs worth the risk. I totally get the argument. Its just not a move I'd be comfortable with.
-
59 points in 61 games the year before at 16 also shows he wasnt a one year wonder.
-
He looked terrible last season.... its a huge risk with his contract and 45 points This is the type of move that can ruin the rebuild if it goes wrong. I'd honestly rather not make a move than take that risk.
-
Rantanen is now on the books for full season and with his big raise and Wyatt Johnston got a huge raise too. 2.76 million in space with 18 guys under contract. Freidman has essentially said they arent trading Robertson but can't re-sign Granlund.
-
With the Stars trading Marchment, they are no longer in a cap crunch and the reason for trading Robertson has disappeared. So while I like him, I think the Stars are basically done with their issue and could buy out Dumba or trade Lyubushkin and have all the space they need. Burns is 40 and has showed clear signs of slowing down. He's more of an offensive guy than a defensive one and I'd be scared of him really falling off and have no interest in a 2 year deal. One year for cheap i might do.
-
McCann has mostly been on the wing. Which actually helps them as they can provide 6 pretty decent wingers for those 3 Cs.
-
Prediction time. Habs take Spence and Hensler.
-
Id be intersested in him but trade cost and extension are of course key factors.
-
They already did that. Yanni Gourde at the deadline. Their 4Cs are Beniers, Wright, Stephenson, Veleno.
-
Veleno had 17 points last year and has one season in his career with more than 20 points (28 is his career high) I dont think this was really about acquiring a centre. More like dumping Burasovsky and gaining 3.23 million in cap space.
-
In terms of pure talent, He'd be an upgrade IMO... the issue is that he's right handed which means all our centres would be Righties. Last 5 seasons 22g 39pts in 81 games 9g 31 points in 59 games (injuries) 11g 44 points in 77 games 22g 45 points in 81 games 12g 34 points in 48 games (56 game Covid seaon). So he's around the 40 point mark when he plays the full season.
-
In terms of ufa centres... Jack Roslovic is an interesting option but Right Handed. And more a tweener 2/3 than a true number 2. Pius Suter had a good year in vancouver but i dont know. They are heavily searching for a #2 instead of just re-signing him. Hes small and the defence isnt great. So yeah its slim pickings after Granlund and Tavares.
-
Who is going off size for penalty killing prowess? This is not something that Karlsson has been asked to do throughout his career. That's what I was going off on saying he was a PKer. Hague, I've been consistent on. He's shit and I don't want him. Never have since the whole rumour started.

I think Ekblad is gone and they knew it when they traded for.Jones.
