  1. Robinson quit being head coach in jersey because the stress of dealing with the media was too much for him. Doubt he'd want to be head man in Montreal. If he can't handle Devils media day to day, how is he going to handle Montreal. As for the french thing... its nice to argue about and all, but the reality is our next coach will speak french. Whether I agree or disagree (and in truth I think we should hire the best candidate regardless of language), I've come to accept that my opinion doesn't matter. Geoff (not Jeff) Molson owns the team, and he's previously issued statements that the tradition of French coaches matters. So i just accept it, its not worth debating at this point... not one coach removed from the cunneyworth debacle.
  2. Price skated again today, video at tsn, its better but he still doesn't look great.
  3. Columbus wins and Vancouver picks up a point. We now sit with 8th pick. (just 7 points up on last).
  4. On your first point, The lower the canadian dollar goes is actually better for a player paid in US funds. Its not a detriment, its an advantage. That said the dollar has started to rebound recently.
  5. You don't even need one of them to get canned to expand the talent pool. There are at least 5 legit candidates who are available in the off-season but not today cause they are head coach of another non-NHL team, or assistant on an NHL team.
  6. Beating around the bush here, or is this a racial issue? Case I'm not sure, but the " keep the great athletes out of the sport, geography and wealth being primary ones" sounds like talking about inner city youth, predominantly black.
  7. Sabres get 1 point Oilers get a win. Good night for the tank so far.
  8. Patrick Roy has a form of job security that Maurice doesn't (he's team president). Paul Maurice is from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, does he speak french? I don't even know if he does.
  9. I wouldn't be so sure about Vigneault. If that team misses the playoffs the coach could be gone. They are by no means safe right now. Heck a first round loss might be enough.
  10. Who is available now? Guy Boucher, Sylvain Lefebvre, Guy Carbonneau Who is available in the summer that is not avaiable now. Kevin Dineen (assistant in Chicago) Andre Tourigny (assistant in Ottawa) Benoit Groulx (head coach Gatineau QMJHL) Marc Crawford (head coach Zurich Lions, Switzerland) Philippe Boucher (head coach Quebec Remparts) Who might be available? Alain Vigneault and Willie Desjardins both look to be missing the playoffs.
  11. Bergevin has 1 year of assistant coaching experience... none as a head coach. Gainey had a lot of experience as a head coach when he took over the team. Its hard to be both head coach and GM at the same time. You really can't be learning the head coach thing on the fly.
  12. What purpose does changing the coach serve today. Price looks like he's done. The skating video looks awful and this is 2.5 months into his rehab. So a new coach jumps in, best case he rejuvenates the team we fight for a playoff spot, either sneak in and get destroyed first round, or we just fall short. Neither of those really appeals to me. Let Therrien tank this ship. And if you replace him. Who is this coach anyways... I have no confidence in Sylvain Lefebvre to rejuvenate this bunch and your only outside hire is Guy Boucher. If you hire Boucher that means you give him a long term contract and he's the coach for next year too. He's not taking an interim gig on a team that can't win. And in the summer get a new coach when so many more options are available.
  13. I agree with CC, it would be shocking to me to see Patches beg off the C
  14. Plekanec's problem is Koivu disease. Paid like a second liner. Producing like an elite second liner. Forced into a #1 role cause montreal lacks a number 1 centre. Nothing wrong with Plekanec individually. Lack of the true franchise pivot is the issue.
  15. The entire team isn't scoring. I see this as a blip for Plekanec that comes at the same time everyone else has gone cold more than an indication that he is done as a player, not at 33 years old. And not after a solid season last year (and a good start this year). This is more an indication of the lack of top 6 talent. Have two competent lines and opposing teams can't focus as much on our few key guys.
  16. He was hurt on November 25th. I think that at this point, whatever he injured is not recovering via the traditional rest/rehabilitation route. These things don't usually take 3 months to come back from without a surgery being involved. The fact that its been nearly 2.5 months and he's limping around the ice the way he was is very concerning. Get surgery now, be ready for october. The program he is on doesn't seem to be helping.
  17. On the whole this season he's still on pace for 56 points.
  18. Flames with a nice 3-1 lead in the third... could pull them within 5 points.
  19. Your solution to dealing with trolls is to act like a four year old and call them names? Says a lot about your intelligence level if you fall into that trap. Doesn't matter what you think of me though... I know that every single poster on here who is knowledgable about hockey, and whose opinions I respect... those posters have always treated my opinions with respect; so whatever you think of me... I couldn't care less.
  20. They own Minnesota's pick, not Buffalos. It came from Buffalo, but Minnesota had traded it to the Sabres earlier. The team scared me tonight though, I thought they were gonna win. But the tank is strong in this group. As for firing Therrien.... might as well keep him, it helps the tank, and there are many many more replacement options available in May and June than there are right now.
  21. Back to back losses to the Sabres and Oilers would be tremendous tanking.
