  1. We might have depth on defence... but NONE of that depth will be another Subban. He's a franchise changing #1 defenceman. At best, even if they reach their ceiling, Beaulieu and Tinordi are 2/3s When Subban had the most minutes on the entire team on the Penalty Kill, the Habs had the #2 PK in the league. THis year when Therrien didn't use him, our PK sucked. Yes, I would use him to kill penalties.
  2. I take a little break from the previews to do a mock draft. Part 1 here. http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/06/12/2013-mock-nhl-draft-part-1-top-shelf-prospects/
  3. Mike McCarron, a huge RW from the USNTDP http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/06/11/mike-mccarron-2013-nhl-draft-player-profile-60/
  4. With Mike Blunden of course... .He's BIG Its not about Smurfs... its about a type of player... the Habs need someone who can play like a Holmstrom. He was 6'0... not huge by any means, but he caused havoc in front of the net. Now you aren't gonna get a player as good as him, but you need a guy who plays that style. And its not measured with a measuring tape, or else Pouliot and Latendresse would be stars.
  5. Last year was really deep on defence. This year I don't like as much for defence. I'd love for other teams to make a run on the D and leave us with the forwards.
  6. Too short.... no one wants short players, Am I right?
  7. Yes. 1) Chicago can score on the Powerplay which is one thing that killed pittsburgh 2) Chicago in Keith and Seabrook have 2 defencemen better than any one on Pitt. 3) Crawford is better than Vokoun. 4) Chicago dismantled an LA team that is certainly bigger than the Bruins, and might be tougher. Chicago can win this, no guarantees, but they have some things going for them.
  8. Way to go PK. He's becoming a top D man in the NHL, no doubt in my mind.
  9. And he'd anger all of Calgary. It'd be like Koivu going and signing with the Leafs when he left Montreal. I can't see Iginla as a Canuck.
  10. Tommy Vannelli, a two way, American D. http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/06/10/tommy-vannelli-2013-nhl-draft-player-profile-59/
  11. So basically we would pay the Isles $24 million dollars for 1 prospect. Thats a hell of a fee. Easy to say when its not our money... but you are talking 37.8% of the full salary cap for next season. Stewart left Colorado a while ago. Stastny is a UFA after this season. O'Reilly needs a 6.5 million offer just to qualify his rights as an RFA. In that way Colorado really only has Duchene and Landeskong up front long term right now.
  12. I'd take Iginla, (depending on the price of course) I think he goes looking for a cup contender though.... re-signs in Pitt or jumps to a Chicago or LA or something.
  13. Jimmy Lodge, from the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL, an American RW http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/06/09/jimmy-lodge-2013-nhl-draft-player-profile-58/
  14. A giant of a man from Blainville, who plays for the Victoriaville Tigres, is #57. http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/06/08/jonathan-diaby-2013-nhl-draft-player-profile-57/
  15. He scores... but he's short, so the points don't count as much. Or something like that.
  16. 1st overall was moved in 2002 and 2003, but in both years the team traded down to 3rd overall.
  17. Plekanec has never played with either of those guys. Just because they are from the same country doesn't mean they will have chemistry. Plek has always been with Cervenka and Jagr at World Championships/Olympics etc.... not sure who the third guy was this year with Jagr in the playoffs, but pretty sure it wasn't Hemsky.
  18. Pavel Buchnevich, a talented Russian Forward, who would go higher if not for being signed for two more years in the KHL. http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/06/07/pavel-buchnevich-2013-nhl-draft-player-profile-56/
  19. No he couldn't. Carolina was as much out of a playoff spot and as much of a seller as we were. Rutherford offered Spacek to anyone who would take him for a draft pick. There were no takers. Why do you think Gauthier would have been any better at this?
  20. Hemsky is talented but SOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF If we needed pure talent, I would say yes, but given the team we have, we don't need a talented perimeter guy. Horcoff I gotta think is swapped for another bad contract or amnestied.
  21. Zach Nastasiuk, RW/C from Owen Sound http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/06/06/zach-nastasiuk-2013-nhl-draft-player-profile-55/
  22. Price works out with Eli Wilson in the summers. Wilson has said he doesn't want to be a full time goalie coach except if the right team asked, he wouldn't do it for just anybody... oh but he also said Montreal is one of the team's he'd go into full time coaching for.
  23. From H I/O and HF posters monitoring twitter feeds. Kurt Etchegary Gabryel Boudreau Emile Poirier Jeremy Gregoire Dylan Labbé Anthony Duclair Marc-Olivier Roy Kerby Rychel Mike McCarron John Hayden Ryan Hartman Evan Cowley Eric Comrie Spencer Martin Franky Palazzese Zach Hall Zack Fucale Antoine Bibeau L-P Guindon Ryan Graves * (or Jacob Graves) Matt Murphy * (or Trevor Murphy) Samuel Henley J-S Dea Cole Ully Dane Birks Justin Bailey Gabriel Curtis Zach Nastasiuk Bo Horvat Liam Coughlin Carter Verhaeghe Matt Buckles Remi Elies ? Matt Boudens Peter Trainor Laurent Dauphin Samuel Morin Anthony Mantha Frederik Gauthier William Carrier Jonathan Diaby Philippe Desrosiers Bailey has that untapped potential thing going. I think he can score more than he has... but you never know.
  24. Tristan Jarry, a goaltender with the Edmonton Oil Kings comes in at 54. http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/06/05/tristan-jarry-2013-nhl-draft-player-profile-54/
