Will Galchenyuk play the entire season in Montreal? Should he?
Commandant replied to Habsfan's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Subban today is better than Price was in 2010 (coming off the season he lost the starting job) and MaxPac was in 2011 (~20 goals in ~130 career games). He's not at the same point of his career as they were. -
After picking their roster yesterday, here is Burke's legacy. The Leafs have more "dead money" and "dead cap space" than the Habs, and that includes paying Gomez his full salary of 5.5 million this year and taking the 6.4 cap hit. http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/01/19/brian-burkes-legacy-leafs-paying-big-money-on-failed-acquisitions/

You're Marc Bergevin - What deal do you offer Subban?
Commandant replied to dlbalr's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Offer Subban the Edler deal... and I bet he signs it. As for Meehan/Bergevin agreeing on money.... I don't know about that. I don't think they've agreed on money because Bergevin wants less money and less years. Meehan wants more money and longer term. The term is the bigger issue here, as the money will likely resolve if they come to an agreement on term.... but its not resolved yet either. -

Players are one play away from the end of their career... No matter how good you are, it just takes one Chara/Pacioretty incident gone wrong and kiss your future contracts good bye. Of course he wants security -
I wonder if Gallagher can be effective at LW Gallagher Eller Bourque as the third intrigues me.

I don't buy that. If a player can't handle a blow to his confidence... it doesn't matter if he gets hit with that blow at 18 or 22... at some point he's gonna go in a slump and have confidence destroyed.... if he can't rebound, he was never an NHL player. Was Max Pacioretty ruined because he came up to soon? Nope, he went back down, developped and became a 30 goal guy. Riberio became a 70 pt player Latendresse a 27 goal scorer before getting concussions. Price had growing pains but was a legit NHL starter and great goalie by 23. PK subban struggled defensively but is our best D now. and on and on.... Sure, some players bust... but so do guys who never get NHL time like Thomas Hickey, or Zach Hamil, or whatever. Sometimes a kid busts cause he just wasn't good enough or he didn't have the mental fortitude.... not because he was ruined. -

J-F Chaumont @JFChaumont #Habs: "On ne parle pas d'une audition de 5 matchs pour Galchenyuk. On ne veut pas lui mettre de la pression." Michel Therrien. Sounds like he's getting 48 games, not 5. One thing to consider.... Sarnia only has about 30 games left in regular season... Montreal 48 -
Its not a third jersey... its changes to home and away. I think its laces too.

Blunden for 13th forward. Even though he was waived today he doesn't have to be sent down right away. He can be sent down at any time up to 30 days after he clears waivers (assuming waiver rules are the same as last CBA).

I'd like them to do a throwback to the Globe jersey. Of course we have to win the Stanley Cup the year before we use the Globe jersey.

Above. Phaneuf is not as good as the media has made him out to be.

Your question was I realize the team has many reasons not to give it..... I merely answered the question as written and from PK's perspective. -
Oh man. If Dave Nonis' first move as GM of the leafs is to offer sheet a player and do a reprise of the Phil Kessel trade in a slightly different manner (offer sheet instead of trade).... oh man the media would have a field day.

Plex did heavy defensive work with Cammalleri and Kostitsyn on his wings... not exactly the best defensive forwards. Gionta is so far ahead of either of those two defensively, that I have little worry about the fact that those two will have to carry the load defensively on the line. Even if Gally is not as good as Cammalleri was at LW. Gionta is so much better defensively than Kostitsyn at RW that it will be a wash. -

1) Its expensive to buy (and added expense for the player that reduces the value of his short term contract). 2) The payout is less than being under contract. 3) What if he gets a nagging injury... not one that makes him medically unable to play, but one that means his level of play is much lower. Insurance won't pay out, and his next contract will reflect his reduced effectiveness. there are a ton of reasons why a player would ask for job security. -

A look at this year’s Calder Trophy race, including my picks for the top 20 contenders (and AG) http://lastwordonsports.com/2013/01/17/top-shelf-prospects-calder-trophy-2013-predictions/ -

Why does a player want long term security? Because you are only one play away from the end of your career.... see Marc Savard and Chris Pronger who collect their cash despite being finished. 5 million to PK and 3.25 million for Gally and we are still well under the cap. -

On Subban’s Bridge contract… vs Price and Pacioretty. When Price was given his second contract in the summer of 2010, he was coming off a poor season where he had lost his starting job to Jaro Halak in the playoffs. He had much to prove. When Pacioretty was given his second contract he had just had his first productive half season in the NHL after being in the AHL at the start of the year. He had 14 goals and 24 points in 37 games. Was injured with a broken neck and severe concussion. And he had a total of 123 NHL games 20 goals 29 assists and 49 points to his name. Last season PK was given the most ice time of any defenceman on our team. He played over 24 minutes per game and was matched against every team’s top line. He led the team in scoring by a defenceman. He played top penalty kill and powerplay minutes. He was +9 on a 28th place squad, and was clearly our best defenceman on the year. Seems pretty clear to me that his career and situation isn’t the same as those two and I understand why he wants more than a bridge contract. -

Gomez sent home (update: early compliance buyout official)
Commandant replied to dlbalr's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
The players get 50% of revenues now.... thats a set figure, it can't go up or down..... The cap rising means that revenues have risen and means the league is healthier, not worse off. AS for the grievance... as things stood this morning the league likely would have won, but it appears they didn't want the hassle However given this agreement between the league and PA... if the Habs don't buy him out they will lose a grievance. -
Agreed, great stuff.

Looks more like a guy who is having a hard time skating on a bad ankle to me.
