  1. Did anyone see what happened to Bieksa when his calf got cut by a skate? That wasn't intentional and he still missed 6+ weeks. Imagine what could have happened if Simon had actually cut him! 50 games
  2. This is really exciting! I hope he plays well and I can see him on Saturday night against the Laughs!
  3. Thanks for the advice guys! I'll post the photos if we get in
  4. How many amazing trades have been made by any teams in the NHL during the salary cap era? It's not as easy to shift players around. Even the Kovalev trade was a salary dump for an underperforming and expensive player by a team that was chronically mismanaged. The Joe Thornton for nothing trades just don't happen that often. As far as UFAs go, it's really up to the players as to whether or not they want to come here. Bob can only do so much.
  5. So I'm taking my gf to her first NHL game next weekend against the Leafs. Is it possible to arrive early and be able to go in the lower bowel and watch warm-up? What time would I need to get there for a 7pm game? Thanks!
  6. Why would not want to be more of a God in your own province than you already are? (Other than the obvious reasons, but still...)
  7. According to TSN's Scott Cullen:
  8. I don't think we need a guy that's slower than Latendresse and can't produce playing with the best centre in the game.
  9. I wonder who gets to back up Danis now? Desjardins?
  10. Defenceman Andrei Markov skipped practice Wednesday for the second time in three days (therapy days). - TSN
  11. Mine too! Does anyone think he can score 40 goals?
  12. Bob McKenzie 11/26/2007 7:38:14 PM Anyone who thinks John Ferguson can survive for any significant period of time as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, please raise your hand. Anyone? That's what I thought. The truth is, Ferguson would have been dismissed long ago if not for one reason - the dysfunctional nature of the Maple Leafs' board of directors. Related Info * Ferguson rejects report on firing coach * Turmoil in Toronto * McGuire to the Max * Dreger's Blog: Radical Changes for the Leafs? * Poll: What should the Leafs do at this point? * Power Rankings: Leafs #28 This multi-headed corporate monster is the root of the problem in Toronto. It is common knowledge that chairman of the board Larry Tanenbaum would have fired Ferguson long ago if he had the support of the board, but to this point, he hasn't. Team president Richard Peddie, who does have the board's support, has been Ferguson's protector. How long that continues is anyone's guess, but it's hard to believe this soap opera can continue for any great length of time. In the meantime, though, the word emanating out of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment's headquarters is that they are perhaps looking at a new model - a re-invention of the managerial position with a committee of high profile ex-players, from Mark Messier to Ron Francis to Steve Yzerman to Glenn Healy running the show. It sounds interesting, but wouldn't that create the same unwieldy management structure that is currently paralyzing ownership? The truth is, the Leafs' board doesn't need to re-invent the wheel here. There is a simple model they can follow - their own. Call it the Colangelo plan. Lure a top executive with a track record from a winning organization and give him the term, money and real autonomy to do the job - just like they did with Bryan Colangelo and the Toronto Raptors. The problem with that approach is that only works well in the off-season, and is virtually impossible to execute when potential GM candidates are in the middle of the season with their respective teams. If the Leafs' board of directors can't function well enough to make decisions, then maybe they should sell the whole kit and caboodle to an individual owner, like George Gillett or Eugene Melnyk or Jim Balsillie, who understand the simple concept of hiring a top-notch pro and letting him do his job.
  13. TSN has Kosty in. Forwards Higgins - Koivu - Ryder Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev Begin - Smolinski - Dandenault Latendresse - Chipchura - Kostopolos Defence Markov - Komisarek Hamrlik - Brisebois Bouillon - Streit Goaltender Huet Spares Grabovski, Gorges NOTE: The Canadiens have not dropped consecutive games in regulation since the final two matches of last season. In two previous back to back sets this season, the Canadiens have won the second game both times. Huet shut out the Sabres the last time he faced them and is coming off a 44-save win over the Islanders Wednesday. - TSN
  14. We almost had Vinny. In the summer of his unrestricted year, he had decided for a day that he was going to sign here. He changed his mind though. I'd rather have him over Iggy.
  15. First! Nice pics, Spiderman! The game is at 6:30? GO HABS GO!
  16. 3-1 Ryder, Koivu, Plekanec. 1. Huet 2. Campbell 3. Koivu
  17. I really think that it's mostly an act. There's no way that he doesn't feel the pressure, doubt himself, and get really nervous. The key part is not showing it and saying that you're unfazed. The thing that I love most is how little he moves around in the net. He's always in position before the shot comes! Perfect example from the Leafs game: two on one, he reads the pass perfectly and has already moved and squared for the one-timer. He's not spectacular, but I'd rather have him calmly moving cross-crease to stone someone than flail wildly and make a save.
