Just watching sportscentre on TSN..Glenn Healey was talking about the Lafs 0-2 start...I quote..."Montreal never makes the playoffs, so playing Toronto is the playoffs for them..." Helloooo, the Habs beat Boston the last 2 times they met in the first round, so obviously, they do make the playoffs sometimes...also, moron healey, Montreal has every intention of making the playoffs, now that a real hockey guy is in charge, so get used to it. Man, I really hate it when idiots like Healey get time on TV....finally, I'll quote him from last year..."the NHLPA will never accept a salary cap"...whatever, idiot.

Personally, I find Harry Neal and Bob Cole to be much more offensive than Cherry. At least Cherry says funny things now and then, and he seems to also realize that the lafs are going nowhere this year. Cole doesn't even know the names of opposing teams players, unforgivable for a play by play guy doing national games. He didn't seem to know who Higgens or Ribero were, and he probably couldn't care less. Neal is a total idiot, his comments are usually totally biased towards the leafs.

I was just visiting Laughs Nation....even Leaf fans are beginning to see the shortcomings of their team...can you believe Berg and Belak were out there together? What is Pat Quinn thinking? Has he become as delusional as the Toronto media? Also, I don't think Allison will be able to adjust to the new NHL...he's probably the slowest player in the league, and that just doesn't work. Lindros, however, continues to look good, we need a guy like Komi in there to lay a shoulder into that guy. Anyhow, panic is setting in in laf town, just wait untill the Sens beat them up Monday night.
-
I think Dagenais slow feet and inability to adjust to new obstruction rules may spell the end of his career in Mtl....I suspect he might be traded or waived before too long...also, since neither Ribs or Ryder are great skaters, I think Perezoigen might work out better on that line, or maybe Plekanik, who is speedy and fiesty. Finally, a prediction...Higgens will be our most valuable rookie this season.
-
I agree, bulis...Bouillon should be our 6th defenceman, neither Hainsey or Strait have really impressed in the preseason...can Hainsey be demoted without clearing waivers?
-
This trade was all about getting something for a guy that the Habs were going to lose anyway. There's no way he clears waivers, not with teams like the Leafs out there starving for prospects...Hossa reminds me a lot of Zubrus...tons of talent, maybe not enough hockey sense to do anything with it. As for Murray, he was a highly touted prospect for a while, seems to be destined to life on the 4th line, a la Jason Ward. [Edited on 2005/9/30 by hankhab]

Man, who writes this garbage? I really can't believe that anyone who has watched a hockey game could write that stuff...celebrating the dirty play of Tucker and Domi, then calling the 2 of them Stalwarts? What? He praises Antropov, who, even in the eyes of my jaded leaf loving friends, is a hopeless waste of ice time. He then is critical of Carolina, who he forgets went to the finals a few years ago, a feat which his team hasn't accomplished in quite some time. Mccabe is the star blueliner every team want sot attain? In who's dreams? Kaberle excelling at defense? Not when I've watched him play. How do these writers find work?
-
Actually, I like him on a line with Bulis and Bonk, instead of Hossa. He played with Bonk in a few preseason games, and seemed to do real well.

I'm sorry, I just don't buy the arguement that the habs don't have a #1 defenceman....Souray is huge, plays physical, has a rocket of a shot...all he's missing is the big salary. Also, you all seem to forget that Markov has yet to hit his stride...he was apparently great in Russia last year, and I think he's good for 50-60 points if he stays healthy. Don't listen to the leaf lovers at TSN when they say we're too small at forward and don't have the defence. Komisarik may become the big bruising star defensman we've been looking for for years. I think Boullion is fine as #6. So we'll have, in my opinion, as solid a defense as most NHL teams this year, without trading away our future.
-
Leafs linup...whaen everyone is healthy (not often)... O'neil Sundin Czercowski Ponikerovsky Allison Antropov Tucker Lindros Thomas or Wellwood Kilger Stajan Domi Mccabe Kaberle Klee Khavanov Berg Brown Belfour Tellquest The real problem for Leafs is no depth...if anyone at all gets hurt, they are in Tremendous trouble....I think they'll squeek into the final playoff spot this year...unless Lindros and Allison miss 20-30 games each..then they'll be missing playoffs this year.
-
Am I correct in understanding the Habs will be making another round of cuts today? If so, who will be hanging in there for now? Julien has said that Latendresse will be playing the next game, so I'm thinking that Julien will also want another look at Hossa, Plekanic, Perazoigin, Higgens, and either Hainsey or Strait....what do you all think?

Pre-Season Game Thread | Toronto vs. Montreal | 9/24/05

Could never watch a game on Leafs TV....if I have to hear that guy say Holy Macaroon again, even in a highlight, I'll vomit. -
What you guys all need to do, and which I will do (I couldn't believe it either, Lindros 72 games? When was the last time that happened?) is write in and let the people at THN know how childish and biased they have become, and stop whining about it on here.

I think this team is almost as good as the cup winners from 93...goaltending is weaker, but defence and offence better. But definatly the best team since then.
-
I think this is a good signing for both sides...Ryder gets a chance to prove his success was not a fluke, and deserves more next year...the team has an out if he turns out to be a one year wonder....I think its win win. Personally, I think he'll do great again this year....maybe score in the 30 to 35 goal range.
-
Dagenais is a sniper, and thats it. No d to speak of, no grit, but quick hands and a great shot. You either play a guy like that on one of the top lines and on power play, or don't play him at all. I don't see him even dressing as a fourth liner, but don't be surprised to see him start the season alongside Ribero and Ryder. Unless, that is, Perizoigin has a great camp...in which case I'd bet you'll see him alongside Koivu and Kovalov, with Zednik moving alongside the 2 r's.....in which case, Mr. Dagenais could be riding the bench.

Unanswered questions: Ryder and the Back up Goalie
hankhab replied to PMAC's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Everybody seems shocked by Stillmans point production last year, but this year, he'll be playing in Carolina, so good luck to him in trying to repeat his last totals. I really don't know what the hangup is with Ryder. Both sides have been absolutly silent about negotiations, so the only rumors out there have proven to be false so far...(that one regarding Richards would have been great, but so far, nothing). If I were Ryder, I'd be looking for a short term deal (2 years) so that I could demand more money after proving to be no one year wonder (we've had those....Gilbert Dionne, Shel Dahlen, etc), so maybe the length of the contract is the hangup. As for money, even Mad Mike Milbury only gave Hunter, who seems to be the most logical comparison candidate, a little over 1 mill, so I can't see Ryder demanding a whole lot more than that. If Ryder were a leaf, we'd see TV coverage every day about the lack of a contract, but then again, if we were leaf fans, I wouldn't have seen a Cup win in my lifetime, so I guess I'll cope. -
The only bright side to the CBC pro Leaf schedule is that this year, when we're sitting around watchin the game with buddies, the Leaf fans will be mostly frustrated, because I predict a big fall from grace for the Leafs this year. Also, It'll be fun listening to Cherry blaming Kaberle and Sundin for everything.

All the small market teams who are spending big time are counting on there payrolls being scaled back at the end of the year. Don't forget, if NHL salaries take up more than 54% of league revenue, then every players salary this year is scaled back untill the 54% is reached. So teams with a 35mil payroll might end up only paying 32mil, etc. On a differnt note, TSN reports that the Redwings are nowhere close to signing Datsuk or Zetterberg...they have 7mil of payroll to sign 4 or 5 players...looks like a trade will be happening there....for one or both of those guys, probably in exchange for cheaper young guys.
-
From what I've been reading, Chipchura is mature physically, and plays a style well suited to pro hockey...could he be the first Habs prospect since Corson to make the jump directly from major junior?
-
To my knowledge, the Rangers have to count all of Jagrs salary against their own cap space...does anyone know if the league has ruled or been asked to rule on this one?
-
Theadore and his agent are reportedly going to have a press conference today or tomorrow announcing that he is accepting his 1 year qualifying offer. He is supposedly looking for a long term deal on par with what Marty Brodeur is making, and a no trade clause....if this is true, then this is his last year in Montreal, and I don't think he's worth anything near what he's looking for anyway. He's no Martin Brodeur.
-
Cherry is a Leaf fan, which is one big knock against him, and yes, he allways defends the cheap shots of "his boys", but I have to admitt that he is entertaining, and I'm glad he's back. Everyone else is a little boring...except that Satallite hotstove...I love that portion of HNIC.
-
To call the guy a bust allready is just crazy. I watched him play in the world juniors the last few years against his piers...and he was brilliant. I'll bet he's with the big club in 3 years or less., full time. [Edited on 2005/8/25 by hankhab]

Who do you all think will be the worst in the NHL this season? I'm thinking it'll be close between Buffalo, Washington,NY Rangers, and Carolina
