  1. I was being sarcastic, but those 5 games showed us who is ready for the totally different world of playoff hockey and who isn't.Tinordi, Gally and Galch definitely showed they were imo. And Diaz and DD aren't. Eller never got the chance unfortunately, and hopefully the egg laid by Patches was from playing with an injury and not because of the perimeter player he is becoming
  2. I don't care if anonymous internet posters believe me or even care what i think. It was just an example of many fans who follow management like lemmings and WAY overrate our players. Just look at some of the trade proposals.
  3. BGL had a back injury which limited his effectiveness. i'm not going to pile on him along with the Gainey and Martin apologists. He did change the momentum of a few games, one with San Jose and another with Philly off the top of my head. Martin has been quoted numerous times that "toughness is overrated" and didn't want to use him. And Gainey was a nutcase. How do you go acquire the "3 amigos" and a bunch of other smurfs, and then hire a coach like JM who believes in a shutdown defense 1st system that requires bigger, stronger players. Another among the long examples of Habs management bashing an ex-player. That's why UFAs don't come here unless overpaid
  4. In that case alot of players shouldn't have been qualified or waived. It was an embarassment after a good season
  5. Thanks you hit the nail on the head re; scouting/gm. and being a contender. timmins and co. have drafted many NHL players, but none that are really outstanding and we haven't been a contender, except 07-08,under his era. That 03 draft was an umitigated disaster that resonates today
  6. I haven't seen a post mentioning Fistric or Murray here. And I looked at every post on this thread. So what are you talking about ??? It will probably be posted until the D beefs up..Would you rather read about tired trade proposals of 3 garbage players for one elite player.
  7. Don't forget Enquists and Nokkeleinen
  8. There are other boards besides this one.And other posters who post on other boards as well. He's 25 and players' work ethic changes as they mature.I've heard enough bad things about PK,Cammi,Ryder and others to disregard all that talk. I go by what I see and what players are saying not management. Yep, I waited 3-4 years for all that shouting to die down before i changed it
  9. I saw the way he played in Boston's cup run. It seemed like he had plenty of character then. He was undrafted and turned into a 30 goal scorer who almost won rookie of the year.He scored 25-30 goals for us his first 3 years despite getting short changed in his contract with one year deals. All that determination shows me he had ALOT of character. Once again I'll go with results and what I see over Bergevins mouth. If you think it's hard for Habs to attract FAs,it's going to be MUCH harder if our management is going to bad-mouth everyone that gets traded or leaves town
  10. #1 problem going into this year,is that we still have the same non-physical defense as last year. Not one single change. With Emelin out until at least November, and his physicalness after a huge question mark, the situation is even worse. And we also saw how markov disappeared down the stretch/playoffs,and he's a year older. Instead of wasting time and money for washed up forwards, how about a 1-2 year physical stop gap on defence. Murray and/or Fistric would be much more important to this team than the yearly Jagr negotiations. They're slow, but pair one with Diaz/Beaulieu.the other with PK and you have a very solid and improved core.
  11. DD didn't pass the eye test for me at all this season. i don't have to look at stats to tell me that. And Derek Roy is a better all around player then DD. If all our players, prospects and drafts are so good, why are we basically mediocre for the last 20 yrs
  12. 4/$20m was being thrown around before the team's late season swoon.
  13. Sorry,Pleks isn't a 3rd line center on our team, and Eller certainly isn't ready for the 1st line. It's debatable if he's even a 2nd liner at this point of career
  14. I'm disappointed as a long time Hab fan. Proud ? Are you serious ? We used to make fun of the Bruins hanging Adams division title banners. We've made 1 conference final appearance in 20 yrs (and we got steamrolled). I guess the younger fans consider making the playoffs a success. i don't need a cup to be a success.but in my opinion,if you don't make the conference finals it's a disappointing season. We haven't been a legit contenderr, except for 2 or 3 seasons since '93.We won 2 regular season division and one regular season conference. Big deal. It's the epitome of mediocrity .That's the fact.I'd honestly like to see a poll about what constitutes a successful season, and then break that down by age groups.Once again i'm not saying it's Stanley Cup or nothing. i would just like to go into a season and/or playoff thinking we had a shot at one
  15. I saw an interesting thing on another site; Why did we sign Briere for 2/$8m when Ryder got 2/$7m, Other than the obvious origin and size obsession Ryder last 2yrs 51,goals, Briere 22 goals Last 3 years Ryder 69 goals Briere 56 goals. I also believe Ryder is at least a couple of years younger .
  16. That's why I think we should overpay for him.I've gotten shouted down by the same people who thought I was an idiot 3 yrs ago for suggesting we try to trade the great AK 46 for the "4th liner Clarkson"
  17. Patches is suppose to be a power forward. You have to go to the net to be one. I didn't see him go past the faceoff circle in the playoffs and 2nd half of the year. he was a big perimeter player. i really hope he goes back to being the type of forward he was when Cole was mentoring him.Gio and Gally are the only forwards on the team that will attempt to crash the net
  18. I'd rather see Leblanc with a chance.I saw something good in him when he first came up.Has good vision and plays solid two-way hockey. Briere/Jagr type acquisitions on a team like our just screams playing for the 8th seed again, and is definitely not staying the course that Bergevin said.
  19. I have a fetish with big tough players .You have a fetish for smurfs. Somewhere in between is probably the right way to go. You should have watched the Ottawa series to see what DD is worth. Any team with interest will/did. it's not much. What else does he bring besides passing skills. Speed, defense, goal scoring, bodychecking ?
  20. Totally different player. in case you didn't know, Dats, and Berg aren't power forwards. Our two power forwards are Gio and Gally which is tough on them for obvious reasons. How do you know teams were calling about Plex...or Moen for that matter. Pleks being our best all around forward kind of explains why we've been so bad for so long. If you want to acquire a good player by trade you have to take chances or give something good in return. You aren't getting Simmonds or Coburn for Moen,Gorges,Diaz types or Bournival, Pateryn type prospects
  21. I guess all those OT goals, game 7 gwgs and being among playoff scoring leaders for Horton doesn't mean anything. And seeing that either they haven't left or have just left then there has been NO fan reaction available so WTH are you talking about????
  22. He loves to gamble, party, spend money and have a good time. Why wouldn't everyone love him. He's a cool, fun guy. If that's your idea of a role model, cool, but it doesnt help with on ice performance. 0 goals in 22 playoff games, too tired/slow/old to even get back on defence. I wouldn't want him for minimum. He's just not that good.
  23. Why would a team trade for Gio,coming off 2 bicep surgeries and a $5m contract, when they could have picked up Briere cheaper, without giving up an asset. And last I checked there's not a market for a 5'6 center being paid $14m over the next 4 yrs. Markov is our best trade bait as far as salary dumping is concerned
