Aebischer4life
Koivu only 1 goal in his last 11 games. GOTTA PICK IT UP!
smon
Too true. Hands up if anyone here thought Kovalev was going to lead the team in zero offensive categories but in penalty minutes. Absolutely Fantastic. The top line forwards have to get back on track. Ryder, Koivu, Kovalev and no doubt Samsonov need to score some goals. Mont Royale
The team and more importantly the trios have lost sync. ! as simple as that! the players from hamilton or Lats are in syncro They arent more talented than the opposite teams they are just playing as they have always... how did our vets lose that cohesion? it can only be momentarily.. no doubt... I don't necessarily agree that the rookies are in sync anymore than the vets. The past few games, Lats has been giving the puck up easily, and has not been much of a physical presence. Lapierre was marginally better in terms of physical play, but didn't seem to be able to generate much. I'm not trying to pick on these two - the whole team appears to be out of sync. Their power plays last night were ridiculous - they couldn't gain the zone at all.
shortcat1
To get a forcheck going you need speed, desire to get the puck and punishing the other teams D. The Habs don't do any of that. They remind me of the Top Gun movie when Tom Cruise always requests a fly by, that's what the Habs do in all 3 zones, line some one up, turn and skate by them, have a chance for the net, fly by, turn around and turn the puck over. interesting comparison... a bit ridiculous but certainly graphic... GO :hlogo: GO!
House11
Here is the main problem. SPEED ! the team is supposed to have it but it doesn't use it. Think about it .. in the "New NHL" isn't speed supposed to dominate ? if it is why are the Habs LAST in power plays for ? If they were truly using they're speed wouldn't they be first in the league ? The team has so much speed but yet they're 6th in penalties. WHY ? if your faster than the other guy why hook ? hold ? etc. it's because they're lazy , out of position. I still think the lack of size on this team is killing them ... even in the "new NHL" size still matters. size and speed is what the good teams have. Wamsley01
Lack of puckmoving defencemen is huge on this team. A hardworking strong forecheck gives the Habs all kinds of problems. Look at the games versus Toronto. Hardworking limited in talent. Strong forecheck and we have been badly outshot and have had to battle from 2 goal defecits 2 times to salvage points. With Streit on the wing we have one solid puck moving defenceman. And it is not Souray!!
Fanpuck33
When it all comes down to it, the blame is with the players. The problem right now is they don't seem to be playing with as much heart as they were earlier in the season. Carbo can't give the team more heart. It comes from the players. A coach is important, but he can only do so much.
shortcat1
interestingly, alexstream has pretty well the same topic in french in the 'section francophone'. as i said in it, the assignment of blame is a multi-lingual activity... heck, why not... GO :hlogo: GO! Buffalo seems to have a similar mix of players on there roster, some Russian, some english Canadians, some Frech Canadiens, Czechs, etc., etc., and they are in the top 3 in the league. Absolutey the players are to blame. Who's out on the ice not giving it there all, coasting, playing a perimeter game, and getting no shots on goal? The only positive is Gainey isn't going to wait as long as he did last year to make a move (firing Julien). He's going to have to make a move to either improve and or wake this team up before they fall too much farther in the standings. This team isn't just going to right itself....its needs a change. And it'll happen within the next few weeks if things stay the same

They have similar skill sets overall up front and have got similar goaltending but Buffalo actually has some good puck moving d-men whereas the Habs have one guy(Markov) who can move the puck effectively. Someone mentioned using our speed better but it's awfully hard to do when the forwards are chasing pucks chipped along the boards into the neutral zone. A good puck moving d-man will pass to forwards in stride instead of making them dig it out of the neutral zone boards, or chase a puck dumped into a corner. The skill isn't being utilized because our D CAN'T exploite it often enough...
