They want everyone who wants Gainey to re-sign Kovalev to sign it. If we end up with a salary cap then Kovalev could be signed for much less...I don't want to see the organization be stuck paying a big salary that puts them over a salary cap. We have lots of organizational depth too...so not signing him won't hurt the team as much as you might think. I'd love to have him but not at the expense of hurting the organization long term. They have no credibility, are usually made for dumb reasons, have multiple signatures and are horribly written. We can get a million signatures, but the decision is up to Gainey.
