DON
#1 d-pairing may work well. Pens are 7-1 only giving up 16g, should be a tough test.
dlbalr
It looks like Crisp and Bennett will be healthy scratches once again while Fournier is getting into the lineup right away for some odd reason. I've updated the first post with the reported lineup for tonight.
DON
5-1 not for IceCaps 4g on 5 shots in 2nd period for Pens Fucale pulled after 4th g McCarron (6) PPG from Holloway-Barberio (McCarron tied for 5th in rookie scoring now)
DON
Tom "the bomb" Kostopoulas is playing with Pens. Another Mike Keane I guess, who just loves to play.
dlbalr
Tom "the bomb" Kostopoulas is playing with Pens. Another Mike Keane I guess, who just loves to play. He's still a pretty good player too, 40+ points the last two seasons.
DON
Thomas (5) starts the comeback and McCarron get assist.
DON
Oh well, 5-2 loss. That Matt Murray seems like a good goalie (and they said he was goalie of year last year also). Not sure is Fucale a sieve today or might not had a chance on goals?
DON
McCarron with 1g 1a, tied for 3rd in rookie scoring.
Guest Stogey24
McCarron with 1g 1a, tied for 3rd in rookie scoring. Sweet! As a few of us said, he could be a viable call up a little later in the season if injuries start knockin
dlbalr
That Matt Murray seems like a good goalie (and they said he was goalie of year last year also). Murray is a case into why you can't make definitive proclamations about goalies based on junior numbers. His draft year, he posted a 4.08 GAA and .876 SV% in the OHL, both ugly numbers. It was really only two years later - his final OHL season - that he put up legitimate #1 numbers. Last season in his first pro year, he burst on the scene with 8 shutouts in 40 games with a 1.58 GAA and .941 SV% and stole the starting job from Jeff Zatkoff (now the backup in Pittsburgh). Suffice it to say, that was one of the bigger surprises in the AHL last year. A quick IceCaps note, it appears Connor Crisp is hurt. No word on where the injury is or how long he'll miss. Machine of Loving Grace
McCarron having a great start. Happy to see.
DON
Are they gonna get beat badly today? Or can Fucale stand on his head and outduel Murray?
DON
Just watched last game's highlights; Fucale got picked apart (over blocker several times, over glove, 5 hole) and McCarron's goal was a sweet redirection, good hands for the big kid! dlbalr
Are they gonna get beat badly today? Or can Fucale stand on his head and outduel Murray? I wouldn't get my hopes up for a win tonight. I am, however, interested to see how Fucale responds after a rough outing.
IN THE HEARTS OF MEN
1-0 carr from McCarron and halloway
dlbalr
I guess I'll be waiting to see how Fucale responds as it's Pasquale in net for St. John's. One other lineup change I can see, Bennett's in for Hanley. They didn't post the lineups but the lines have changed: Hudon - de la Rose - Andrighetto Carr - McCarron - Holloway McNally - Dumont - Thomas Fournier - Eisenschmid - Gregoire
DON
Sounds like Kostopoulas just lost another fight, vs McCarron.
DON
McCarron took extra 2minutes and IceCaps give up a PPG. 1-1 at end of 2nd.
DON
2-1 for Pens with 5minutes left in 3rd. And quickly 3-1...4-
DON
1-4 on road trip Holloway 1st in AHL scoring with 15pts Barberio tied for 1st of d-men with 10pts McCarron 3rd in rookie scoring 10 pts
dlbalr
2-1 for Pens with 5minutes left in 3rd. And quickly 3-1...4-1 This 3rd period meltdown is happening too often. That needs to change.
