Cheer For Ottawa....

Comparing one team to the one from the previous year is ridiculous. Different players... more experience... less experience... different coach... different goaltender.

And Tampa Bay is a contender now? Come on. Get your head out of the sand. They're weak and have no depth. Look at the stats. They're a pretender just like Detroit. Think about it, wouldn't all those games Detroit had against division mates Columbus, Chicago, and St. Louis been great for our position in the standings too.

Shouldn't Ottawa be up 3-0 then? Not up 2-1. Tampa isn't a pretender. They are the defending Champions who can put the puck in the net. Richards, Lecavalier and St. Louis can dominate games. Fedotanko, Modin, and prospal are 20+ goal scorers and either Burke or Grahm are capable of stealing a game here or there. Ottawa has a suspect goalie. Yes Ottawa will probably win. But its going to be 6 or 7 games. They are not the gladiator you think they are.

A suspect goalie? I'd put his stats ahead of Grahame or Burke in a second. And yes, TB is a pretender... you expect a team where virtually every player on the team has a negative plus/minus to match against the Senators? TB was a dominating team... this isn't the Lightning from a few years ago... and we all know that Lecavalier plays when he wants to, St. Louis barely got 60 pts, and both TB goalies for lack of a better word, have stunk this year... neither wanted the starting job. And any team can lose on any given day... but not in a 7 game series... the cream rises... and fast.

Tampa has a lot of skill and a strong offence but I've been very disappointed with what I've seen form them this season. Their poweplay is loaded with stars but it's still painful to watch (29th in NHL WITH Andreychuk aka best PP specialist of all time). Their goalies are awful. That's the best way Ican put it. I think they should stick with Burk but really both are only back-ups at this point in their careers. They have a pretty weak defence despite Kubina and Boyle. Their team philosophy is to attack with speed and their defence is ususally forgotten. Watch how many odd man rushes they give up. And that's never good when you have 2 struggling, inconsistent goalies in net.

Yes, Ottawa is an amazing team but Daniel Alfredsson is a notorious playoff choker. Take away Ottawa's captain and they are no longer the Eastern powerhouse. They're still a great team but not unbeatable like they were early in the regular season. Dany Heatley - first time in the playoffs. Jason Spezza - first time playing a game in the playoffs. Havlat is the only one who's REALLY lighting it up right now for them. I would also say that Wade Redden (arguably the best defenceman in the NHL) is an absolute stud. Chara is great but I haven't seen him do much in the playoff games he's played so far. I just didn't notice him as much as I would normally notice a 6"9 wrestler on skates. They do have character guys like Mike Fisher and Peter Schaefer who are terrific not to mention Antoine Vermette. They're just an allround fantastic team. Their Achilles heel is Ray Emery who is also untested in the playoffs. He's a pretty good goalie but probably not ready to win a Stanley Cup.

I say Ottawa wins in 6 and I'll be happy. Yes, Ottawa is terrific but I would definitely not rather play New Jersey who has not lost in close to a month.

The only way we could end up playing New Jersey is in the eastern final. I expect they will be there. I hope we are.

Ah. I se you are right. All along I've been thinking that it's Ottawa or New Jersey. So it's Ottawa or the winner of Buffalo/Philly (looking a lot like Buffalo right now).

That's a tough choice. Ottawa is a much much much more talented team than Buffalo but the Sabres seem to get the job done. One of the teams I wouldn't want to play. I would still prefer them to Buffalo.

This is my feeling exactly. Ottawa is very good (maybe too good for us) but I prefer them to Buffalo.

As expected, they're making short work of TB. There is just no comparison between these teams.

And what exactly makes Alfredsson a playoff choker? 52 points, 28 of them goals, in 73 games isn't too shabby in my books. Especially considering on average that he's not a point-per-game player in the regular season either. Chara is the best defenseman in the game... and the Heatley/Spezza combo are phenomenal... the steam rolling begins.
