this is idiotic talk.... -
no matter how you look at it... this team stopped scoring goals and began to slump simaulaneously when sekac came out... even so moen playing well (or not)... sekac needs to draw back in... i don't get it.... he scores that memorable goal in front of his family then gets the yank! patch DD sekac galchenyuk eller gallagher bourque plex weise prust malholtra bournival I'm sorry but bournival brings way to much speed on the forecheck alone to be ignored any longer... he also kills penalties!
-
or 2 blowouts to tb and calgary
-
now remove all players names and insert markov, souray, schneider, streit, bergeron kovy, koivu, ryder plex etc... etc.. what is the common denominator here... thats right a stable presence on the points
-
even if we have that net presence.... if the entire 2 minutes is spent trying to enter the zone and we have markov and subban flip flopping constantly and PK is skating all over the place.... where is the shots, imagination? we can't even gain the zone and when we do and subban is on the left point waiting to unleash a bomb you have markov so far away from him in order to square up to give him that shot ( unless he is feeding him off his backhand it will never work on a consistent basis unless the shot is perfectly placed) earlier it was stated how unstoppable the PP of years past was... why?? because if you look at a stable point on the power play like I've been preaching for like forever on the PP for example (stability meaning the defenders stay on each of there points and refrain from erratic play on the blue line lefty feeding lefty or righty feeding righty)..... -markov on left feeding the one timer on the right point w/ left shot (play 1) this is a quick cross ice one timer not a stop caulk and shoot that were seeing from PK because its just not working -defender takes away that point shot leaving space for the cross ice pass to patch for one timer from marky (option 2) -markov can also go down low with a pass to gallagher who can jam the post or go cross crease to patch(option3) -DD behind net can go to the boards back to patch for shot from the hash (option 5) or give and go down low (option6)) -dd up high to subban or find marky creeping up on the back door play. (options 7 and 8). - cycling the puck on the PP is for chumps... we have an extra man on the ice and should gain zone and keep possession. find open players for ideal shots while having the goalie moving lateral so to open gaps in the net. this only works when you have your forwards skating through or standing in front of goal. but if the shots from the point are coming after per say PK stops the puck squares up and shoots its giving the PK'ers to much time to box out, block shots and the goalie to get into position. there is no problem with movement on the PP from the forwards. or the defenders sneaking up for the back door. but the players need to know that marky is the outlet on the point. the safety net that if the cycle starts you can swing the puck around the boards and his left stick is there on the boards to regroup and start over... stability, structure and presence on the PP starts with the defenders on the point and its just not working long term over the last 2 seasons with PK and marky.... i believe the staff knows this but aren't willing to demote either quite yet from the 1st unit....
-
ok so now we have articles coming out bout the point shot...... http://www.allaboutthehabs.ca/habs-special-teams-pathetic-powerlessplay/ now if only he included in his article the 3/4 previous seasons when we actually ran a point with markov feeding a left handed shot to his right we'd be in the top 3 each year before that!

-id have to think its gonna a be a long while before galchenyuk is centering patches in place of DD -i dont understand your thinking? the team is 8-2 and we still have lots to do.... we won a game last night that we probably didn't deserve to win outside of our goalie... can you say sign of a good hockey club? -after 10 games plex is on a career high and galchenyuk is firing at almost a PPG.. so why exactly are we making this change?? -guess what? I'm just as hard to please...... but the sky isn't falling, not in the least bit unless were talking about this damn PP!!! -

I sound like a broken record saying it over and over and over again.... 5on5 and the PP are different! MT needs to break up markov and subban on the PP. we have lost our identity since this pair was established. either put subban on the left boards or replace markov with gilbert.... instant dividends i guarantee.... subban (one timer) gilbert (QB) markov (QB) emelin/beaulieau (when in line up) subban on left side will have his one timer caulked and ready to fire at all times markov on left will do what he does best QB the PP together they do neither well because they are never set..... and yes it is that easy...... -
i still remember gilmour streaking down the left boards to score and put us away.... i started crying and recall my dad giving me a smack in the face telling me to be a man and that those guys (the habs) didn't care about me... i was going on 11yrs old that september and hockey was my life.... i don't recall the habs winning the cup in 86 but do recall the habs losing to BOS the years after (i cried when we lost to the bruins in 6 as well)lol Point being is i don't know if it was the slap in the face or the actual habs but i believe it was then... that failed playoff run of 1989 when i truly began to bleed blue blanc rouge

beaulieau and bournival sent down to the dogs... tinordi has looked really good so far... what has impressed me most is his poise in our zone when under pressure. he isn't hurrying the play and is playing under control and in his element. this is remarkable considering people thought he wouldn't even make the team out of camp. how can MT even consider taking this massive body out of the line up? -

actually, gorge's replacement i would think is emelin and tinordi/beaulieau on the left side and not weaver and gilbert who play on the right. And although gorges is sitting 2nd in the league currently in blocked shots, i believe we have 4 guys in the top 20 in blocked shots (PK, gilbert, weaver and beaulieau) so that part of the game is covered. i think your definitely over valuing gorges as defender, in fact our best stretch of hockey last season in the reg season came when he was out for a significant amount of time. no dis-respect to josh. I'm just saying if we break down all the goals scored last night by boston for example.... would gorges have made a difference. not one bit! -
i once again must stress that you need stability on the point for the PP regardless of net presence or lack of. our points on the PP are always playing erratic and we need stability and to get that markov needs to stick to left side and find the open shooter....
-
I don't know, it just seems that our power play has never looked to good ever since PK and markov play the points together. it seems to always be a mess cause PK constantly is pushing his slapper and wants to flip flop with marky all the time disrupting the points and flow of possession. i am a FIRM believer that if therrien simply flips gilbert and markov in pairings you will see instant dividends. 1st unit patch DD gallagher PK gilbert 2nd unit paranteau plex galchenyuk markov beaulieau -a lefty feeding a lefty on the right point creates the perfect one timer and markov seems to be able to make any lefty an offensive juggernaut on the PP why not beaulieau... On the flip side, PK needs a right handed defender to feed his shot on the PP to really maximize this weapon and take it to the next level in scoring. the simple secret to our power play.. a little blast from the past (success)

galchenyuk is looking good at left wing.... centre can definitely wait

but really though, tinordi had a pretty good first game. i think with some confidence building from his making the team. and some self belief in his abilities and the tin man just might be for real. he looked good on his skates last night.... -
The Battle for Two Defence Spots
IN THE HEARTS OF MEN replied to Commandant's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
why?? markov was at his nhl PP best when quarterbacking in a stationary roll on the left feeding a lefty on the right.... then have a righty feed PK finding seams for the one timer the opposite way....... very interesting D lines at practice with marky joining PK and beaulieau with gilbert and defensive tandem of tinordi and weaver.... put some pressure on emelin to really step up his game with some inner competition -

am i the only one who thinks gilbert and subban (two righties) should be paired together and markov and beaulieau (two lefties) on the PP. you need the same sticks on the points so they aren't constantly flipping sides to create the one timer. -

Tokarski, Moen on trading block?
IN THE HEARTS OF MEN replied to ICEWATER77's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
budaj is getting moved not tokarski if anybody. MB has shown that he will let loose the aging vets much more quickly. budaj for a 4th/5th rounder is my guess or a career AHL'er. Moen will fetch a 4th/5th rd pic as well. -

TV info for watching games this year
IN THE HEARTS OF MEN replied to REV-G's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
just called bell now.... as i expected if you have bell express VU then in order to get RDS last year to watch all the games that are not on in english you would of had to subscribe to the french package as you can't buy RDS solely with Bell like you can with cogeco. if so TVA sports is included in that package already for $15 a month... in ontario's golden horseshoe those are channel 193 TVA sports 1893 TVA sports HD. that will get you access to all 82 games across all networks and channels. $15 a month for 6 months is approx $60.... -
TV info for watching games this year
IN THE HEARTS OF MEN replied to REV-G's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
TVA is part of the better package on bell SAT tv channels 101 and up and 1818 for TVAHD and 1804 for TVAHD montreal channel. these games are nationally televised in french so if you have these channels currently then the games will not be blacked out as they are in french and not english. rogers for an extra $60 per year will subscribe you to these channels. -
jiri sekac has already made this team..... i'd go out on a limb, judging from the 3 games I've watched him play (1 inter squad game), he is one of our better forwards (i know 3 preseason games does not make a career) BUT, he doesn't look or play like a rookie, not in the least bit. His puck possession skills are fantastic at 22yrs old, he is very hard to knock off the puck, seems he's studied film from another super czech (jagr) in this regard..... his poise with the puck, hockey IQ, big body and demeanour on the ice are clearly above average. Not to mention he is already in the best shape of all habs..... it will be interesting to see over the coming weeks if he's able to hold up against the leagues best opposition playing alongside plex and his shut down role. if so, mark bergevin landed a diamond!
