  1. Nice goal AKosts. I hope his current pace keeps up to get his season back on track. Twice the Sabers step up at the blue line to keep it in, and twice it was dangerous offensively for them. Hmmm.
  2. How ironic, I was just thinking aboot Lalazines on that SHG play. At least Gui would have thrown his shoulder at a random close by player on that play. Plex literally glided twice and watched the Buff guy skate off on a breakaway as Cammy tried to catch up. Cammy was further away from the Buff guy than Plex and didnt have much hope catching him, but Plex was closest and definitely would have had a chance, had he tried.
  3. What was up with Plex on that SHG? Did Plex break his stick or something? He just stood there and watched Cammy try to catch up to the guy.
  4. D'oh Hammer. Opposite problem Spacek did. If your going to stand your ground, then do it. Dont change your mind a second later or you'll be beat basically every time.
  5. I agree to an extent. It is kinda pathetic how many penalties they get compared to the teams they are playing against. Think of it how I do though: the Habs are getting craploads of expereince for when they get srewed in the playoffs. Where do the Habs rank on the PK now? Anybody else notice how much better the Habs are now that Gill is back? Not that Gill is amazing or anything, but he is a pretty good PK and the Habs get so bloody many it does make a big difference when Gill was injured.
  6. D'oh Spacek. Why did he keep backing up and turn around. The puck was almost between his feet when he stared backing up. He could have easily knocked the puck away at Buffs blue line with his stick. Oh well, Habs only have a 1 goal lead so its probably better to be defensively safe, but still hate seeing stuff like that.
  7. No clue where the Habs AKosts went, but where ever he is they can keep him. The AKosts thats been playing the last couple of games is way better.
  8. I think you and the others are taking him to literally. OK, maybe not. I agree that historically from his past trades that Bob typically looses the trade. I've been sayi g this for years: Bob is way to conservative. Bob is afraid to take the big risk. Big risks can be dangerous, but with big risks comes big rewards. Bobs just to afraid at taking a risk that backfires and makes him look silly. Look at Plex and AKosts, their contracts will be up soon. I said in the off season last year that Bob should sign them long term or the Habs will loose them. The way Plex is playing so far he could be getting 5 mil+/yr (he' might even want Cammy cash if he gets more pts) so will the Habs be able to afford him? Its bizarre too because Bob doesnt want to trade Plex or AKosts because he knows their potential and at the same time he refuses to commit to them with long term contracts. I wonder if he talked with Gui aboot contracts before he was traded. Knowing Bob I would bet the farm thats a big no, and he definitely should have. Sure it might not have looked like Latendernes was going to be the big top 6 power forward they were hoping for but he was still a decent 3rd line guy who wanted to be in Montreal. If Bob could have signed Lats to a long term cheap contract than he probably should have. The exact same thing for Higgs too. Think aboot it. If Bob had signed Lats, Higgs, and Laps to 5 yr contracts at 1-1.5 mil/yr the Habs would have a 4.5 mil/yr 3rd line that would probably be 1 of the best 3rd lines in the NHL and most likely the cheapest to boot. Now think if Plex and AKosts had been signed long term at 3 mil/yr for 6+ yrs and SKosts at 2 they have a 2nd line at 8 mil, which again would be 1 of the best 2nd lines in the NHL and again most likely the cheapest. Thats 12.5 mil for a 2nd and 3rd lines who were all drafted and developed by the Habs. None of this happened, but it could have. This isnt hind sight, I've been saying things like this for a long time and with trades since the day they happened. P.S. most likely now out of the Halak trade mix: Philadelphia Signed goaltender John Grahame to a minor-league contract.
  9. No clue why Kozed is being repeatedly slammed for his comments in this thread. I fully agree with him. Hard to beleive I'm wrong. You should list Tangs in the same scenario. The Flames were desperate to dump his salary. I always said paying a 1st and a 2nd for a player making 5+ mil who is in his teams dog house is a high price for a 1 year rental. Bob could have kept those 2 picks and signed him during last summer. Ironically, who was involed in the trade previous to Kovy between Bob and Sather? (which probably dates back to Dallas). I've got a funny feeling that Bob helped out Sather in the trade previous to Kovy, so Sather helped out Bob with Kovy, and then Bob returned the favour by taking Gomez. Also regarding the Kovy trade is you have to remember Kovy was slumping big time. The NYR Kovy was covered a lot differently by the other teams than the Habs Kovy. Kovy wasnt much of a sniper with NYR like he was with the Habs. The Halak is on the market comment is probably just Bob announcing Halaks availability to see if any GM's have any real interest. I can see Bob just moving him for the sake of moving him. That could be a colossal mistake.
  10. Exactly. Halak gets rusty when sat for prolonged periods. Halak needs to play semi regularly to be in top game shape. It usually takes Halak a few games to get back into top game shape so he needs to be played to be at his best. Halak definitely needs to play games at the end of the season if he is to be used as a backup in the playoffs to Price or he will be rusty and by the time he's used to playing again a series would be over. Thats already burned the Habs before.
  11. Oh ok, now that its worded like that it makes complete sense. Thx for the correction. Its a good rule that lesser teams cant nab up every player on waivers that better teams want just so they can trade them to the better teams for picks. SJ must have been 1 of the original teams that wanted him off waivers. I wonder what team Bob was trying to trade him to? I guess technically it could have been SJ, well until he had to hit waivers and they got him for free. I guess theres info thats not publicly released like how many teams tried to pick somebody up off waivers. I wonder how many teams tried to pick up Bryzgalov when the Ducks waived him the other year, it must have been more teams than just Phoenix. I've seen waived players get traded before but I guess in those cases no other teams tried to pick them up off waivers at the time.
  12. You must be joking, unless you think lazy is a great attitude. Gui's time with the Habs can be summed up in 1 word: lazy Not sure why I seem to be the only 1 who noticed, but I guess everybody was to busy cheering on Gui's hits. Most of Gui's hits were the absolute most laziest thing he could possibly do. ex: the other teams dman is behind his own net with the puck and dishes off a break out pass and the puck is heading for the Habs end. What should a Habs forward do? A) skate as fast as they can and get back to his own end and help back check or B) skate the opposite way the puck is going and make a late hit behind the other teams net Gui would pick B every time, because he's too lazy to skate 140 feet back to his own end when he could skate 20-30 feet and make a pointless late hit that would make the fans cheer for him. Almost every hit Gui has ever done is because it took the least amount of effort. Skate back hard and help backcheck, or meander over to a guy who had the puck a few seconds ago and make a late hit. Thats Gui in a nutshell always following the path of least effort.
  13. Wha? Once again please, this time in English. Sorry, that just doesnt make sense to me. Do you mean Bob had a trade lined up? or there was a trade in the process when Bob nabbed him off waivers? Still confused with the waiver thing though. If there was a trade in progress and Leach needed to be waived to be eligable then why wouldnt 1 of the interested teams just nab him off waivers? Or is that what happened? Was SJ the team interested in trading for him? No other team tried to get him off waivers, or he wouldnt be SJ bound because they are currently the top team, and in the event of a tie the crappiest team ends up with waived players. Cant really feel sorry for Leach, SJ probably has a good chance of winning the Cup this year.
  14. If Atl self imposed deadline is soon as apposed to waiting for the trade deadline it would be stupid IMHO. At the trade deadline theres more desperate teams and teams knowing they can make a legit run at the Cup who would be willing to pay a higher premium at the deadline for such a player. Kovalchuck is most likely the most coveted UFA this summer. Even at 10 mil/year I wouldnt be surprised if his agent is the most contacted guy on July 1st. Kovalchuck could literally pick anywhere he wants, theres not many teams that would say no, even if they have cap issues, other people would be moved to fit him in. I'd love to see him with the Habs, but I highly doubt the Habs would win any bidding war trade wise or UFA bidding wise unless he truly wants to play in Montreal, which could be possible. Dont forget S Kosts is going to call him.
  15. Why is Price still playing? Seriously, when he's off, he's off. Get him out before its 4-0. Price is clearly off tonight, theres no point letting the Caps run up the score before pulling Price.
  16. It pisses me off, its just stupid. I'm certain Sweden is sending its top 6 scorers in 2009, same with Russia, Czechs, etc. All of the countries will be sending their best players, well except the host country, Canada. wtf. :puke: I dont remember who the top 3 Canadian goal scorers were in 2009 calender year but 1 was Iginla and I beleive the other 2 were Heatley and Nash. Stamkos, Cammy, and Marleau were in a 3 way tie (4th, 5th, 6th) Canada is taking only 3 of its top 6 scorers in 2009. Utterly brilliant. I almost wish the list showed the top 10, but it would probably be more stupidity. I wouldnt be surprised if theres only 4 in the top 10 going. tbh Canada could probably send 3 teams and all 3 be competitive. Ironically I think it would be better. For some reason we always seem to send the wrong people and leave a lot of better players off the team.
  17. I dont think Team Canada is even considering Cammy. :puke: I saw stats on the top Canadian goal scorers for the calender year of 2009 last week and Cammy was in the top 6. Cammy was in a 3 way tie with Stamkos and Marleau. None of the 3 are on the team. Apparently they are now considering taking Stamkos.
  18. See, try to score while doing a line change. Good things can happen. I hate it when they always just dump the puck in and change.
  19. Wha wha wha? Theres a NCAA prospect in a NHL game for the Habs? It would be nice to see Wyman do something, we've only been waiting 6 years. The Habs might need to bring back Dags, he was "big"
  20. I agree, I hate when that happens. Thats why I'm always saying drafting best player available doesnt always make sense. If you need a shut down C then why draft a player with a lot of offensive potential and then teach him to focus on the part he's not good at so much that he losses his natural talent and becomes good at nothing. It doesnt make sense. Its would be like drafting Price because he was BPA and then getting him to play defense because the Habs needed a dman. Why not draft what you need and get them to focus on their natural talents instead of trying to turn every player into some they are not. Its to hard to develop players for all roles, so they need to stick with what they are good at and teach them some stuff they arent good at. Its the jack of all trades, master of none scenario. Kosto was a good all round playeer and your not going to get very far with a team full of Kosto's. i.e. good at everything, but not great at anything
  21. hahaha, thats funny. McGuire basically says the same thing with Lats always going on aboot Lats and how the Habs ruined him He's under 200 lbs. Pouliot weighs 1 lbs more than 5'7" MAB ffs. Theres no way in hell Pouliot is "big". Great, now the Habs are down to 1 foward who is 6'2" 215 lbs +. Does everybody still think focusing on drafting large guys is dumb?
  22. Luck would be if 1 of the large players becomes a top 6 guy. With no luck you at least get large 3rd and 4th line guys. Yes, the Habs would have the Laffs farm team. However, what you fail to realize is that the Habs already have 3 top 6 guys signed long term. Bob needs to sign Pleks long term, and possibly A Kosts, or trade them for somebody the Habs need who is singed long term, like Vinny. With 4 top 6 forwards signed long term they'd only need 2 more, which they probably already have right now. The Laffs have 1 top 6 30+ goal forwards signed long term, so dont be daft suggesting the Habs will become the Laffs if they draft nothing but large guys for 2 years. The Habs and Laffs are in completely different situations last time I checked. If you want to watch Smurfs, go to Smurf village. Seriously the Habs already have the highly skilled small guys locked up long term. What are they lacking? ummm, could it be size? 1 per draft? Are you kidding me? Price is basically that size, and he's a G. There was 2 guys in the 2009 1st rnd that are pretty much that size (6'3" 220 lbs), and hard to beleive, a G in the 2nd rnd that size, and if I keep looking I'm sure theres a lot more. Just because the Habs dont have any doesnt mean that none exist. Plus they dont have to be that exact size, its just an example, its not written in stone, just large players who are actually large and not a complete joke being called large. Oh ya, never mind. me bad, I forgot, the Habs have Patches. He's huge, Pierre McGuire says so. Players like Patches, and Malkin etc, you know they'll never put on the weight to be large. They dont have the body type. Draft players who do have the body types to become 220+ lbs when they are in the early to mid 20's. Unlike Patches, Malkin at least has the height. 6'2" is the high end of average sized guys. Why not draft some tall large mean Gargamel's to go with our long term Smurfs? Is it really that crazy bad of an idea? The sad truth is that if Moen was sent to Hamilton he could be the crap out of the entire team, and he's only 6'2" 215 lbs. Moen isnt even really big, he's just big among Smurfs. Are you really going to try to tell me Moen is a deterrent? Theres lots of NHLers who could put a beat down on Moen. Only 1 or 2 Habs could go toe to toe with Moen. Moes has been great, and the Habs have nobody who could possibly replace just his size. The Habs D prospects are coming, so where the hell are the big guys they need? The Habs already have enough 5'-10" 185 lbs prospects to get them to 2015 but lets draft more Smurfs because drafting big guys is dumb? :puke: Are ya's sure aboot that?
  23. No, that would totally work. Part of Bobs problem is that he is to conservative, and afraid to take chances. Bobs refusal to sign anybody long term is hurting the Habs. This is the centre of the player development problem. Now people are beginning to catch on and are question Timmins and are starting to say that the Habs cant develop players, but for what role? See, nobody knows. Every role? Why not narrow it down a bit. Sign people long term, make a commitment to stick with them, then only draft players you need to play along with them. ex: With Vinny & Gomez, the Habs wouldnt need to draft any more 5-10" C's because they were BPA. They would be able to draft the 6'2" 215 lbs + Getzlaff, Richards, etc. Draft enough players you need for the specific roles your long term contract guys cant fill. Now with Gio and Cammy signed they dont need to draft anymore Smurfs for at least 3 years either. Draft nothing but 6'-4" + 225+ lbs guys for 2 or 3 years. Sure you might not get a top 6 winger, but you'd have a tough ass 3rd & 4th lines. Nobody would be calling the Habs small after that. If they do hit the jackpot and get a top 6 winger with that kinda size look out.
  24. I agree. Gio could have screwed Bob in that regards. i.e. if Pleks gets more points than Gio, he's most likely going to want equal or better salary at par with Gio. Its a shame that the strike did nothing to stop inflating player salaries. The NHLPA needs to get smart and get rid of player agents and their greed. Whats the average salary of an agent anyway? There is probably at least 1 agent is making more money than the highest paid player. If that is true, its definitely a huge problem. The player agents arent looking out for the players, or whats best for the sport, they are out for the most money they can extort out of the NHL.
