  1. ATHLÉTIQUE.CANADIEN. Great Post! Glad you were brave enough to speak out, we do need to do more and say more. Canada, is doing a lot of good in the world. Yes, thats right we are peacekeepers. But this world needs peacemakers too. Who better to make peace in a world thats hurting than us Canadians. I'm a Canadian Citizen today but I too am an immigrant to this country, who came here to escape tirany. Canada gave me a future, Canadian "peacemakers" thats right not "peacekeepers" were able to broker a ceasefire and established a negotiated peace process. Now that peace did not last why... there are many answers but IMO it did not last because there wasn't a peacekeeping force established to keep the newly brokered peace agreement. The country is Srilanka the peacemaker was Bob Rae(politically speaking I would not vote for him, but I have the utmost respect for him) and his Canadian counterparts who with the help of the norwegians were able to bring peace to a tiny island in turmoil. Unfortunately, today the beautiful island country below india is taking two steps backwards and going from bad to worse in a hurry. A corrupt government and like many of the developing countries rampant with bribary and dishonest politics. I'm sure many of us are thankful for our freedoms and way of life. We who have more and live in peace have a duty to answer the call and help. We can achieve this in many ways, speak out, support justice, be peacemakers and by all means continue the tradition of peacekeeping. The life we have today was not built in one day. We enjoy our freedom today because a few sacrificed their lives to give us peace and security. Anyone who theatens that freedom must be challenged. Do not let the lives already lost be in vain. They faught for a greater good to help bring peace to a part of the world thats wrapped in turmoil. Their sacrifice should be celebrated and honored, not trampled on. If we don't stand up for the innocent, helpless, weak and broken peoples and their countries in the world then who will? Many of us and/or our families came from other countries and many of us escaped a difficult life. Today we are proud to be Canadian's ( many of us are also proud to be Canadiens). You and I should understand the true meaning of peace and how difficult it is to make without help. Lets help now in Afganistan and the middle east and create a world that is safe and peaceful for you, me and most of all our Children. If we don't help now, one day we may wake up and find it (unrest, war, turmoil) knocking on our door, threatening this wonderful way of life we have worked so hard to establish and maintain. I support the idea of Canada and everything that is good about being Canadian. I am proud to be thought of as a peacekeeper but I'm equally proud that we are trying to be peacemakers.
  2. Yes, If Ribs steps up and performs then I'd call them our # one line. I too would like to see Johnson play center again. And see our prospects excel with NHL time. The only troubling complication is that if we do give too much ice time to our prospects, don't they need to clear waivers to head back to the AHL? If so don't expect a rookie to replace longer term injuries. And I'm ready for the next well (high) paid scoring, playmaking #1 center who will be BG's next big trade.
  3. When I started reading this post my heart sanked! The thought of loosing Koivu was disheartening. Mind you I too felt it could become reality; And similar to KoZed have been quite resolved with the fact that this would give us more ice time for our prospects, as they are very worthy of the opportunity. Then as I read on I am happy again with thoughts of having Koivu back in the lineup. This exercise in up and down emotions has been one that I've come to understand only too well. I think that we need to be realistic, this coming season will not be injury free. As a result we will see prospects join us and hopefully contribute well. I've said this many times before, IF we have a longer delay or loss of a key part of our chemistry; lets assume we loose Koivu. Our top center and playmaker; then expect BG to pull the trigger on a big trade for that #1 center, especially since it would be unfair to put the burden of a #1 center on a rookie.
  4. Well in the short term I think BG is holding the GM seat in Hamilton, until a replacement is found. So I'm not surprised of this signing. Typical BG player. Hope that this year things look up for the Dogs. They could really use another good season in Hamilton. By the way much thanks to dlbalr and montreal for posting the rosters for hamilton. Looks like we will have some work to do in terms of chemistry. The great part about this years crop will be that all the spots will be open for the taking. Everyone will have a chance to prove themselves and buildup their skills and icetime.
  5. koivu-11 not a bad post for 2am in the morning. Hope you got to bed at a reasonable time. I for one need my beauty sleep. So how old is Perezhogin? any grey hairs on the lad?
  6. IMO it sounds like from the rumblings that Clarke had a "Bulis" situation with Handzus. Handzus wanted a more offensive role and Clarke wanted a two way player. Chicago wanted to rid themselves of a player who would not have given 100% because of the ugly arbitration (I'm guessing here...) So in a way both teams are taking a slight risk and in a way both teams aren't. But I agree with the majority here. Chicago wins this trade on paper. And I"m also betting Handzus brings better chemistry to a line with Havlat.
  7. Ok! after looking at that last link to the unprotected list; I'm hoping and praying we don't have to go through that again in the near future. I'd hate to loose any of our current roster or prospects.
  8. I too mostly agree with you too, KoZed; However, here is where I disagree. Now I did not see every game LIVE at the phone booth, but caught 90% of the games LIVE on RDS. I don't speak french but can understand it well enough to enjoy listening to the game in French as opposed to English, as those english speaking colour commentators, especially the american ones suck! but I digress. I'm sure there is another thread with a poll on colour commentators just waiting to be posted by one of you creative posters... But more to the point of this thread. Here is my Opinion. Garth Murray: 3+ *** : I've seen him been placed in a center position and take faceoffs, I can see his size, talent and skill level; his ability to be juggled in and out of the lineup become a real asset to the club. This will be his year to shine and surprise. Saku: 5+++ ***** : Do you really need an explanation? He is our captain without him we are a different team. He may not be a superstar on every other team; but on our team he is! Mark Streit: 3+ *** : After watching him now for a season and seeing him adjust to the north american game; I've noticed his offensive leadership on defense show up with glimmers of potential stardom! I think he will have a break out year as well. Another player who will step it up and shine in my opinion. Remember although he is an experienced captain and leader on his international team, he is a defenseman and they need time to adjust. Expect great things from him this year.
  9. The article mentions that the bulldogs still need a defenceman, a left winger and a fighter. Can anyone give us a complete list of players slated for Hamilton for the next season? Would be nice to see that group in context of the main club; it may offer a sneak peak at the possible area that we are over stocked so to speak, which would be an indicator as to who management thinks can make the jump. I know that carbo and the gang has said that the options are open for all to compete for a spot or two, but realistically I'm sure they have two in mind already.
  10. Well, I too feel a trade is brewing. However, with the recent logo issue, buffalo fans are rallying like never before. More people are talking about the sabres this off season than in the past. I'd bet there would be hell to pay if the sabres traded away their heart and got shot in the foot in return! Interesting times south of the border! For the Bafoons!
  11. Quebec or shall I say most of the people in the provice of Quebec. Have realized there is more to be gained from staying together and thriving. But acknowledging our differences is one of the fundamental priciple that Canadiens have grown to accept. We are multicultural, those who cannot accept it can get up and move. And maybe after the recent racial issues that surfaced, debate on all topics allong racial differences must be again alive and conversational in Quebec and especially Montreal. But I suspect the recent trend in homes forsale( sold ) is just a sign of the times. The market is peaking and will not climb higher in the near future. Mortgages have started to rise so; these are last minute sellers who are trying to take advantage of a hot market nearing its leveling off period. Or, the sky is falling everyone run!
  12. Say ADP. thanks for the info. when you put it like that I feel worse now than I did before about being taxed to death.. :-) You should contribute more often; I"m sure you could have helped with how taxes make a real impact on team caps. and their spending capabilities from US to Canadian teams. and maybe even state to provincial break downs. Welcome to HW.
  13. thanks habsrock11 the sig is absolutely brilliant! love it!
  14. Ah! yes, thats true but at least Zod would be demanding and ruthless equally to all; and you will know from the start of his reign that everyone will be equally taxed at 90%. Mr Nasty, I see your point; maybe I will stay here and enjoy my freedom and pay my taxes on top of taxes. I guess its better than getting taxed here and then having to pay tax in another jurisdiction, gosh with all this taxing its a wonder we are able to survive at all.
  15. ROFLl! So true, Dallas was doomed from the outset of this UFA season.. I wonder what odds vegas has on eric going down with another injury this coming season. Someone could win some major cash. Hey maybe Jersey might bet that Lindros will not get injured so that they can pay for all the extra cap money they need to payout. Hey what happens to Jersey, if they can't make the cap! Do they have a fine or penalty? Does any one know what happens to teams that don't come under the cap?
  16. OK, lets not get me started on taxes! Going through some real issues with my own life and taxes right now. If I hear anymore government tax increases and then increases is govt paychecks at any level followed by spending increases by the govt at any level; them I"m going to really be very very... sad! or should I say MAD! Why should non citizen's or in this case athletes get a reduction in taxes? I'll argue that we should be treated equally, as a citizen of this country or non citizens, WHO work HERE and enjoy our standard of life. So according to this article if I read it correctly, all I need to do is move to the US, apply for citizenship; then move back to Canada and pay less in taxes working for my current employer (hopefully they will wait till I get my trip to the US and back completed). Now, if you buy that argument or lets say that hypothetically I carry out my last thought, then theoretically I'm avoiding my tax obligations. Now, we citizens of canada pay taxes so that we can have our high standard of life ( and pay for political paycheques ). Why don't non citizen who come to canada to work.. who enjoy our standard of life while here for the majority of their employment period.. why don't they pay the same in taxes? Well, if this is the case then I argue that we are unfairly treated and should be given the lower tax bracket so that we are all treated fairly and equally for enjoying this standard of life. I dearly love my habs! I would do anything to see them succeed and do it dominatingly like in their historied past. But we citizens are being treated unfairly and I do not appreciate being taken for a ride like this. I am so pissed about this I"m going to write to Zod! I hope when he get into power he changed the tax situation for all people working in this country and enjoying this standard of life. Either we all pay less in taxes or all pay more. Either way I vote for Zod!
  17. Could be authenticity, but I would like proof before laying down cash for those pads!
  18. I never posted on sportsnet, just enjoyed the read. Looking forward to reading your posts here at HW.
  19. HI Habsrock11, Looks like your probably very busy. IF you have a moment and have a creative thought; I would really be happy if you could please create a sig me, of Kyle Chipchura. I'll leave the design upto you and your creativity. much thanks in advance. chips
  20. HI Hawkeye, welcome to the forum. You will enjoy it here. I think I've read a few of your posts on sportnet before...
  21. Everyone playing with habs voodoo dolls, please stop now! I can't take any more injury issues with our beloved habs. Anyone selling leafs voodoo dolls, I'd like to purchase a few please. Thanks in advance.
  22. True, not yet! He's proven to be injury prone in the past. But a healthy hasek could also mean trouble; he has a nack for standing on his head; Hey, Dark_Faerie87 and Marky_and_Komi you two sound like your coming down with one of those summer colds, better grab some cold flu medication asap. ( "*cough*Aeby*cough*" ) dark_faerie87 ( "*cough- hope so*cough" ) marky_and_komi Any whoo. I agree with you both, that trade deadline move for BG looks even better now. A *Cough* *Cough*; ops looks like I caught something too.
  23. Yep! This has been my fear for the coming season. We finally have a group on paper that could heat it up and suddenly, small injuries and early season jitters could ruin everything. Time for everyone to take a min. and say a little prayer for our lads; may next season be injury and worry free. I'm still hopeful that no news is good news on the Koivu eye injury... I'm surprized that the Gazette has not been watching this story like a hawk, reporting on any changes. I guess we should hear quite soon eh?
  24. Ok, I guess its only fair that we have international refs; especially since we have had the advantage of international players and their talent pool. But I will strongly protest if these refs are not the best and well trained for the North american game. IF they start calling crap like i've seen in international games, there will be hell to pay! Now, mind you even some of our north american refs aren't the best and could certainly use help/training.
  25. Hrm.. interesting; #15 is one of my lucky numbers. So is 5, boom boom; Previously #15 was worn by... Cassels, Andrew ( 1987 ) Andruff, Ron ( 1973 ) Buturlin, Alexander ( can't remember his career 1999, drafted ) DiPietro, Paul ( 1990 ) Eneqvist, Johan ( 2000 drafted ) Langdon, Darren ( 2003 ) Smith, Bobby ( 1983 ) Zubrus, Dainius ( 1999 ) Previously #20 was worn by... Backstrom, Ralph ( 1954 ) Benoit, Andre ( 2006 ) Carnback, Patrik ( 1988 ) Connor, Cam ( 1974 ) Dahlin, Kjell ( 1981 ) Hunter, Mark ( 1981 ) Lachance, Scott ( 1999 ) Lumme, Jyrki ( 1986 ) Mahovlich, Peter ( 1969 ) Turgeon, Sylvain ( 1990 ) Zednik, Richard ( 2001 ) Thats pretty good company. I'd be happy if the two new additions live up to just a few of the big names from our past who have worn the numbers they have choosen.
