  1. I think the waiver situation works like this: 1. Marchant stays in the AHL. CBJ pay his full salary, but it doesnt count against the cap 2. If they call him up and he clears waivers he's back on the team and they try (again) to make a trade 3. If they call him up and another team claims him CBJ have to pay half of his salary and it counts against the cap. Any way you look at it they lose, just like the Devils are paying Krystov Oliwa an NHL salary to play in the AHL
  2. No changes. Bob is going to wait and see how the team handles some adversity before he does anything. The team and Kovalev decided that he should have the surgery now because the team was going well. Obviously, they, and we, knew that there would be some rough spots along the way with one of the best players --and leaders on a young team-- missing. Patience.
  3. Sh**T now we have something to complain about. These kinds of games are unavoidable over a long season. The key is that we win the next game and avoid a 3 game losing streak.
  4. Hey, what about my brilliant analysis of the alternatives available to us
  5. nah, 4-2. MTL. Its about time we win by more than 1 goal
  6. Well said Shortcat:lol:
  7. Please Marky and Komi tell me you were joking! Tie Dummy as a habs? :puke::puke::puke: Only when they fire BG and replace him with Houle
  8. Please forgive me for once again referring to the Dark years, but I found it interesting that from Houle's reign of error there are only four players left on the current Habs roster. An incredibly lucky 1998 draft gave is Ribs, 2nd round, Markov in the 6th round and Ryder in the 8th round. This shows that even then the hockey gods had not forsaken us. The fourth player is Souray who came over in perhaps Houle's only good deal, the Malakov trade.
  9. At last someone else who just wants to revel in the team's incredible record and not just debate endlessly about who we need to trade to get better. What this team needs is more time to gel. By the trade deadline BG will have a good idea of what we need for the playoffs. Until then patience will be necessary because i dont see any trades or other pick-ups in our future unless Bob is able to unload a player like Hainsey for a draft pick. All hail Bob and Claude and Andre Savard and be grateful :bow::bow::bow:
  10. I believe that the NHLPA's thinking was that eventually teams will get desperate enough to call these guys up and their chances of getting picked up by another team is better since the acquiring team doesnt pay the full salary.... alas for AHL'ers it is having a freezing effect on call-ups I for one hate the rule because I would like to see Hainsey get another shot in MTL this year BTW whats the rule about keeping a guy who you've picked up on waivers?
  11. And, I forgot to mention we are 4th in goals against in the Eastern conference....whaada want, egg in your beer?
  12. If we were going to trade Theo who would we get that's better? Belfour? dont make me laugh... like the rest of his over the hill teammates he'll be lucky to play a complete season. Cujo? also too old and not a good playoff goalie Luoungo? obviously not proven in the playoffs, a FA next season who will be demanding a significant raise and a goalie who will have a significant adjustment period if he ever gets on a team that can play defense Graham? not even worth commenting on Khaibulin? over-rated, over-paid Brodeur? Who exactly would we give up to pry him out of Jersey?? Who else? Our prospects are too young and inexperienced to handle the pressure of starting in Montreal Give me a break! While Theo hasnt stolen many games for the team he hasnt given many away either. It doesnt really matter how Theo is playing now (as long as the team wins enough to make the playoffs) as long as he rounds into form as the season progresses... and wins in the playoffs. Bottom line: you dont trade your starting goaltender when your young team is at the top of the standings unless a ridiculous deal comes up. As I've said before, the only way I would be in favour of trading Theo would be if Keenan lost his mind and we got Luongo and Boumeester for Theo and Dags:) Now that would be the steal of the century:D [Edited on 2005/11/17 by PMAC]
  13. Anaheim's fans must have a really bad case of salary cap blues. I would if the Habs had to trade a top-but aging talent for the metaphorical bag of pucks to dump salary. Speaking of which, wonder what the Devils are going to do when Elias comes back? I wonder if there was any way we could get Colin White?
  14. Plus, why would we ever want the Habs to lose? Julien can punish them with a bag skate if they do it again
  15. Not even Quinn would risk losing what little rep as a hockey man by attempting to put Tie Dummy on Team Canada:o
  16. Shortcat, I wasn't making any comment about Riberio's mentality at all. I was just asking for clarification about the previous post. My remark about his ethnicity was based on what I read somewhere that his parents immigrated from Portugal which would at least part of his background Portugese, even though he was born in Montreal. As far as I'm concerned Ribs nationality or ethnicity really has no place in a discussion about his play and that is what I should have said. My post was an attempt(obviously not a very good one ) to ask what Haboholic meant. I don't care where the Habs players come from as long as they are loyal to the team and play hard, although I do like to see them have some talented French-Canadien players as this has been a team tradition since the days of Howie Morenz. Getting back to Ribs, I dont know why people want to trade last season's leading scorer, but as I've noted on other threads Habs fans as repesented by this board are not an easily pleased lot [Edited on 2005/11/17 by PMAC]
  17. habaholic: First, as far as I know Ribs is more Portugese than Quebequois. Second, do you think he is over-rated because he is 'French Canadian' or do you think other people over-rate him because he is percieved to be FC and plays in Montreal? If Marchant goes to the minors and CBJ call him up we could claim him while taking a much smaller cap hit, but I think--although he is a useful player-- we dont really need him
  18. It was joke... that's why i put the LOL smiley after the comment. Fedorov is not worth the cap room that his salary eats, but Columbus was desperate enough to take a chance and they had more cap room than we have. If we got Fedorov where would he play when Kovy comes back? The continued development of our young players would be disrupted. I dont think Bob would have made this deal even if we had cap room. The upside to this deal is that TO is stuck with Allision much to the Chagrin of the mutually unhappy Quinn and Allison. Poor Leafs, I feel sorry for them...NOT!
  19. What a crappy deal for Anaheim. Why didn't we trade Dags for Fedorov and a pick? Damn:lol:
  20. I think you misunderstood me. I see a big difference betweeen saying that Theo is not playing as well as he could or even should be and saying he's an overpaid bum lets ship him out for john Graham or even worse trade him for a top forward and start Danis. The first is as you say fair and honest criticism the second is an overly negative take on a situation which is not at this point having a negative impact on the team in the standings. My point was that at times people here seem to think that the Habs should dominate every period of every game. A team at 12-3-3 doesnt need "fair and honest criticism" of every little fault. I simply thought we ought to enjoy the hot streak while it lasted.
  21. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...BNStory/Sports/ Here's Eric Duhatschek's (from the Globe & Mail) take on the Habs(sounds like he agrees with my brilliant analysis:) The Canadiens are an astonishing 12-3-3 so far in the new season for a lot of different reasons — reasonable goaltending from Jose Theodore, strong defensive play from Craig Rivet and others, but mostly because of timely goal-scoring from every corner of the line-up, including the handful of younger players, who made the team out of training camp and have been strong contributors ever since..... Kovalev skipped a lot of practices this season, for therapy purposes, but the Canadiens kept his problem secret — and the way he played, with no obvious drop-off in his game, it was a pretty easy sell. If Dr. Burke discovers the problem is worse than anticipated, things could change. But for now, the expectation is that Kovalev should be fine by mid-December — and assuming the Canadiens' scoring-by-committee continues, they should be too. [Edited on 2005/11/15 by PMAC]
  22. ARRRRRRRRAGH.... Sorry, I needed that... all better now. Well here comes a true test of our depth and our rookies. I predict JT will pick up his game, the rookies step it up and we keep winning:ghg:
  23. Thank you MT Royale; I'm not really going anywhere... I'm too much of a Habs addict to give up on the best hockey site on the Internet and besides even if I stay it will take me about a decade to get to the HoF. Seriously though, if someone said before the season that the Habs would start 12-3-3 you would be ecstatic. It was not my intention to question anyone's right to express their opinion I just got a little tired of the negativity. I appreciate and support any habs as soon as they don the sweater and for as long as they wear the sweater unless their play is truely indifferent. Only a few players have ever driven me to wish them gone( Murray Baron, Kovalenko, Chezecauski, and Traverse spring to mind) Speaking of negativity what's the word on Kovalev?:ghg:
  24. I'm thinking of giving the board a miss for a while. We are close to the top of the league with a better record than even the most freverent or optimistic of us would have hoped for. We are off to one of the best starts in franchise history. Everything is going as well as anyone has a right to expect and what do we see here? Lately it has been moaning and whining: get rid of Dags he's crap; what's wrong with Theo? Let's trade him; our defense is too soft; whats wrong with the second line?; Julien's not coaching well because we are getting too many penalties for too many men on the ice; etecetera, etcetera, ad infinitum ad nauseum Wake up and enjoy the renaissance; savour each imperfect victory. The TEAM is playing well and winning because different players are picking up the slack every game. That's the best we can hope for. No team or player can be at their best for all 80 games(and we want them to have something in the tank for the playoffs) so lets just enjoy it a little more and be a little more positive :ghg:

    CFL Playoffs

Well, one down two to go. At least the Als won. *&^%#@!! Fox Sports didnt show the game they showed a boring No Fun League game instead. I watched the last quarter in case they picked up the CFL broadcast at half tim. No such luck they went from NFL to billiards. Cant understand why people say the NFL is so superior to the CFL. The game is so slow its like watching paint dry. it took them an hour and a half to play one quarter UGH! Oh well Fox is promising CFL football again tonight maybe I'll get a delayed broadcast but more likely if they show the CFL if will be the damned Eskimos beating Calgary
