  1. I hadn't realized how well Monahan is doing this year. Here are the stats for the forwards and based on this I would say that a 1st round pick for Monahan is a fair return to be expected:
  2. I agree with you, although I would not qualify the number of picks as ridiculous but just disproportional with regards to the number of forward prospects. Normal for picking BPA at the draft and a situation I expect to be corrected through trades. I am not too worried about misidentifying key guys. It is part of the process and any mistakes would even out with some unexpected homeruns Dach and Newhook are such examples where to other teams felt that those players would not work out for them and traded them to the Habs. Habs have not fully benefited from having those players due to injuries which is cause for concern: talent level is one thing, actual on-ice performance is what counts
  3. remember that the Sens ahve 3-5 games in hand on most of these teams. If they continue on their hot streak, they will finish higher than the Habs
  4. I didn't put it in the trade proposal thread but here because the Habs may pick up that good 'ol 35 y/o if they trade Monahan and need a plug for the 4th line. but (and most probably) the Habs would not pick up Bobino if they did not pick up Ruzicka. So, maybe Bobino would fit with another team than the Canadiens who struck out on Ruzicka... and that is why it is in this league-wide thread. (that is Bobino tumbling by the Habs)
  5. No Ruzicka? No problem ! Have Bonino instead
  6. François Gagnon is with RDS, and he is very credible. He is the one I quoted. I used the article/link to to HOckey30 to find the date to my post. François said that on TV
  7. @Commandant Here is an article that appeared around that time: https://hockey30.com/nouvelles/martin-st-louis-aurait-eu-besoin-de-jacques-martin/ And here is my post quoting François Gagnon on RDS:
  8. and they are not 3rd in their division although Marlies heve two games in hand. They played well, started strong and dominated the play until they got a bunch of unlucky penalties. High sticking penalties for being careless and delay of game. Utica tied the game 1-1 with 0.9 seconds to play in the 1st. Laval looked deflated for most of the second and ended that period trailing. If I remember correctly, it was after a PP mid-way in the 2nd that they got their momentum back. Bourque has a nice goal mid-way through the 3rd after he fought for the puck on a face off and got a quick shot. then they got two quick goals to seal the deal 3/4 of the way through the period. Dobes was great, Mailloux is so good at creating scoring chances! Paquette-Bisson and Mailloux needed a bit of time to adjust to playing together, they looked more at ease with each other as the game went on. Trudeau had a good game and I think Norlinder was better/noticeable in this game.
  9. he was left alone in the NCAA and spent a reasonable amount of time in the AHL. That is certainly a factor. Tuch and Kapanen are to other "sleeper" picks that may surprise if they develop by taking a longer route. they are 2nd rounders that rarely show up in the news but that seem to still be long-shots to make the AHL and maybe fill a bottom-6 role
  10. welcome to the board @Viking any board member can create a thread, like you did; but like @GHT120 points out, we have agreed to keep conversations related to a thread topic within that thread so that we don't get lost in a sprawl of comments here and there. looking forward to your posts and comments
  11. Struble was picked 46 in 2019 but was derided as a muscle/character pick by MB/TT at least in this forum. If you want to compare to Harris, he was picked #71 in 2018. I am no prospect expert, but I remember clearly that the old brass was always high on him.
  12. five 2018 Canada world junior hockey team members suspected of sexual misconduct soon to be charged: https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/complete-list-of-players-under-public-suspicion-for-involvement-in-2018-world-juniors-scandal he list of players denying involvement and providing alibis: Kale Clague, Jordan Kyrou, Cale Makar, Victor Mete, Robert Thomas. The list of players denying involvement without alibis: Maxime Comtois, Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Dante Fabbro, Cal Foote, Jonah Gadjovich, Brett Howden, Colton Point, Taylor Raddysh, Sam Steel, Tyler Steenbergen, Connor Timmins, Jake Bean. The list of players who release statements, but did not deny involvement: Boris Katchouk, Michael McLeod, Drake Batherson. List of players who have not released a statement: Alex Formenton.
  13. if you sort the standings by points% or using the Hockey-Reference "Simple Rating System" like here, they are in the bottom 8 of the league. But we expected that, right? I like how the young core (Slaf, Ghule, Caufileld, RHP, Roy) is progressing. I hope they get higher-level scoring talent up-front
  14. @dlbalr is wise to be cautious and not get overly excited about Kaz; but he is the veteran backup Laval needed behind Dobes. He can steal the odd game and seems otherwise good enough to keep them close and give them a chance to win. Cederqvist played well in his first game; and with Barron now in Laval the Rocket has improved. They are missing Roy but at least they got Stephens back, I am hopeful for the playoffs.
  15. I am looking forward to tonight's game. I even got an AHL.tv subscription to watch more of their games
  16. I really hope HughGort continues steadfast with the rebuild, it is the first one Geoff Molson has green lit and it is needed. But I also hope they are open to adjust where needed and learn from any mistakes they may make Go Habs Go!
  17. i posted that on another thread months ago. I think it was on RDS or on French radio. I will not look it up, but it was reported at the time. If am not mistaken, and this I am not clear about, JM was considered to be a consultant for MSL.
  18. When Jacques was hired as a consultant for DJ Smith, reporters said that MSL was offered an experienced coach like JM and that he refused. The report clearly said that unless MSL accepts, the Habs cannot imposé a seasoned coach. —- I do not think this games was lost due to coaching. The team is depleted and HughGort has not helped his coach by making some trades to plug some holes. Seems like HughGort is still trying to time his trades or max value for the future. I agree with that approach, but it sucks
  19. I would prefer to get Holloway and Deharnais (their bottom pair RD) = $1.6875M/exp.-contracts for Savard with 50% retaiend = $1.75M/2yrs EDM keeps RD depth MTL gets Holloway and a younger defense-first RD that can hold the fort until Barron is ready
  20. As long as Suzuki or Monahan do not get hurt from playing sooo many minutes, I do not care this season is meaningless except for development and trade returns
