  1. the quality of the available draft picks had something to do too. Also remember that NYR fans remember Gorton as extremely lucky with draft picks... maybe Habs got lucky
  2. patience, grasshopper, patience 🦗 🦗 🦗 🦗
  3. You know, @hab29RETIRED, I don't really know what we could get. But the thought of having only one experienced NHL D-pair in Matheson-Savard doesn't appeal to me. Edmundson seems toe be a "glue/team guy" respected by all. During the developing years, it is hard to replace that. That is why, for me, I would only consider trading him for a high return
  4. I would think twice about it. I like Edmundson, and he would be a great partner for Barron once he is recalled. But for the right return, I would trade him: a high 1st, lottery pick. 4th-10th? Or a solid goalie prospect
  5. no, one in the first and one in the second round if the Habs have extra picks. ( think they will have a bunch of draft picks)
  6. just a lefty/righty type of thing. I would prefer Schueneman - Kovacevic but that may be pushing it too much for the forum. I do not want Kovacevic to e exposed by playing on his off-side with Wideman.
  7. I hope they build momentum based on the loss to Dallas and that they tank for Bedard
  8. I agree with the article, I read it last week. I am one of those optimistic fans who believe that the Rocket may contend, but of course that hinges on some of the AHL players in Montreal to dress for Laval, notably: Harris, Xhekaj, Slafkovsky
  9. Thanks for sharing, this draft seems to have a few quality goalie prospects: Reg |PTW| Last Name | 1stName | Team | League | Ht | Wt | Pos |S/C | COL NA | A | BJARNASON| CARSON | BRANDON | WHL | 6' 3.0" | 186 | G | L | NA | A | HRABAL | MICHAEL | OMAHA | USHL | 6' 6.25"| 209 | G | L | MAS (2024) NA | B | AUGUSTINE | TREY | USA U-18 | NTDP | 6' 1.0" | 183 | G | L | MSU (2023) NA | B | MUSSER | CARSEN | USA U-18 | NTDP | 6' 4.0" | 215 | G | L | NA | B | RATZLAFF | SCOTT | SEATTLE | WHL | 6' 0.5" | 175 | G | L |
  10. yes, I think I mentioned before: if we were still in win-now "get into the playoffs and anything is possible" this is the type of draft pick we would consider a great find by TT/MB when picking 25th to 32nd
  11. that is also what I would do if everyone is healthy. For the sake of discussion, and development, I would do this: (correcting mistake) Edmundson-Savard Matheson-Kovacevic Guhle-Wideman Schueneman Kovacevic is a placeholder, like Kulak was. Both Harris and Xhekaj in Laval, until a trade or injury forces their call ups. Habs need to walk the talk of developing the kids right. Harris and Xhekaj have done great with the Habs, but the Dallas game showed that they need more experience in all situation, playing top minutes.
  12. I tried to find comparables to Monahan, to see how much he could get on his next contract. I mentioned Kadri before, I was thinking of Evander Kane, my mistake. J.T Miller or Jake Guentzel also come to mind. Kevin Hayes is an example of a bad contract. If Monahan is healthy and continues to play well, he will get at least the same as Dadonov is getting now, probably above $5.5M for a longer contract and $6M for a shorter contract. I think the smart move is to trade him at the trade deadline.
  13. yes, 3 years at $6M or to 5 years at #5.5M ($18M to $27.5M) offer from some GM
  14. that is why I do not believe Hugh-Gort plans to resign him, but to trade him. So, replying to the earlier proposal to switch him with Dach: no thank you, let's make sure Monahan has the best possible season up to the trade deadline and let's bank another first rounder.
  15. I hope the Habs are not making him the next Armia by keeping him in the NHL where he is not yet confortable on the smaller ice
  16. Probably, it depends how he will perform this spring and in the playoffs if he stays with Montreal for the full year, he will get less because he will not have the numbers to backup the next contract One example is Kadri… there are others
  17. Dvorak is signed until 2025 at a lower cap hit that Monahan. Also: 1. Caufield needs a new contract. 2. The way Harris in playing, he is due for a raise next season, 3. Guhle to follow with a raise
  18. I think that Dach will become what we expected of Kotkaniemi. If you compare their stats this year, they have similar points, but KK is benefiting from playng on a very good team where Kirby is doing well on very poor team: Player | TOI | G | A1 | A2 | Points | FOW | FOL | FF% | xGF/60 | xGA/60 Jesperi Kotkaniemi | 87.02 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 35 | 26 | 66.63% | 2.92 | 1.69 Kirby Dach | 90.8 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 3 | 10 | 24 | 51.47% | 2.94 | 2.66 I think he will be just fine
  19. Arpon has a new article about Monahan (I couldn't find the french version). In essence, he explains this contradiction where the best way for the Habs to get a first round pick for Monahan is to play him with Suzuky and Caufield; but at the same time, that is also the best place to make him the most useful for the Canadiens (like Toffoli was). I agree with Arpon on this, play "MoneyHands" on the top line to showcase him and bring his value up
  20. I thought the same, but it seems some believe it was Drouin's failt more than anything. I thought that the heavy grinding play by the Starts wore down the young Habs. The PK was less effective this time, which moves it closer to their normal.
  21. but Monahan makes the top line better, why change that?
