  1. I always say a mix of the attributes is important and its not a ranking its more about the combination of them and evaluating it. Its never about looking at one thing, its everything put together. Which is why scouting is hard and far from an exact science.
  2. Its also madness to suggest that the Tkachuk's lack skill, smarts and skating. That said, your comparison was to Matthews and lack of playoff success. Brady has never even made the playoffs, and Matthew has had one long playoff run and it ended without a cup. Meanwhile, their Dad never won the cup either. Which isn't to blame them, its to say one player can't win a cup on his own. I don't blame Auston Matthews that his team pays four forwards a huge number on the cap so they have no depth, no defence and no goaltending, no more than I blame Brady Tkachuk for missing the playoffs. Its their teams that get those results, not one player.
  3. With this ranking, you are going to 1) toughness + grit 2) Work ethic/determination/heart 3) Size 4) Smarts 5) Skill 6) Skating LOL, with this ranking your entire team is going to be plugs..... You need everything, but there is tons of players with grit, work ethic, and size, who lack the bottom three, most of them are taken in the late rounds of the NHL draft and never make the league. The last three are the hardest things to find, so yes, you'd like to find someone who has both skill and grit and work ethic ideally, but those things can be developed. You can teach an Yzerman to be tougher and work harder like Scotty Bowman did.... you cant take an ECHL plug and get him to score goals.
  4. I think he's trying to get two lines going. When all three are on the top line, we haven't had much from any other line. Moving Slaf with Monahan is trying to create a second scoring unit.
  5. The Habs have a higher waiver priority, so they didn't want Ruzicka if he went to Arizona. That tells me they don't plan on using the contract spot on Bonino either.
  6. I dont want to use a contract spot on a 35 year old washed up guy. Just let Condotta play.
  7. Condotta is 26 years old. Id rather keep the contract spot than worry about leaving him in Laval. There isnt much more hes gonna develop there.
  8. Dumont has a long history of Habs articles... managing EOTP at one point, working directly for the Habs on their website, being at the athletic, and now at MHN. I dont think hes overly negative or biased. I think hes one of the better Habs writers out there and i typically dont like the hockey now sites.
  9. Yup, the point is without a transcription or video of exactly what Gagnon said, I have no idea how to evaluate this. Is he credible? of course.... but his words can only be parsed through knowing exactly what they were otherwise its just a game of telephone.
  10. Maybe its not so mucn a demotion for Slaf as seeing if he can get a second line producing. We have been a one line team for a long time.
  11. I appreciate you sourcing that. Hockey30 is a shit rag though. Im not blaming you, Im just saying they arent the type of site where I believe any of their rumours.
  12. Struble was taken 46th overall in 2019. Barron 25th in 2020. I wouldnt say there is as much difference in pedigree as you say. The difference is Barron got more attention being in the Q instead of USHL/NCAA, had more offensive stats, and was part of a high profile trade. But thats all just hype. The pedigree of a late first rounder and middle of the second round isnt that much different I mean struble was drafted 3 spots lower than PK subban, amd considerably higher than Lane Hutson. Two.guys with hype. Points is hype.
  13. Fair enough. I googled Jacques Martin and Martin St. Louis and couldn't find anything on this. Without the actual source i have no idea how much weight to put on this. Seems weird a rookie coach would reject an experienced assistant though.
  14. No statute of limitations, but reality is that the longer it takes to have charges, the harder it is to convict. This is just a general principle. Witnesses die or memories fade with time. Evidence is sometimes lost or no longer preserved with proper chain of custody that allows it to be used in court. Reasonable doubt grows with time. Etc....
  15. I really wonder if there is a trade in the works with a centre being involved. Otherwise the All star break is coming up so why not just do it then, even if its to get Roy more game time.
  16. The thing is that even if Calgary doesn't want Monahan, they will likely go for another centre to replace Dube if they want to make the playoffs, same with New Jersey and McLeod who has a high faceoff % for them, and was taking lots of draws. They don't necessarily have to be the teams to trade with, the fact that they are in the market raises the price on centres, and the fact that Philly might enter the goalie market raises that demand too. In any event, its good for our player's trade values.
  17. If they are serious about making the playoffs, Cal Peterson has been one of the NHL's worst goalies in recent years. Depends how much they want to capitalize on the surprising start.
  18. Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Cal Foote, Michael McLeod and Alex Formenton (Switzerland) have all been announced as taking leaves of absence from their teams in the last 48 hours. Thats 5 members of the 2018 WJC team who all took LOAs at the same time this news report came out. I'm guessing they are the 5.
  19. Well the five assumed to be under arrest leave New Jersey down a third line C and RHD (Savard and Monahan) Philly down a goalie (Hart) Cgy down a 3rd line C (Monahan) and meanwhile, Mrazek signed an extension in Chicago, so thats another goalie off the trade market. Seems a good day for our trade options.... and a bad day to be a rapist, and that's most important.
  20. Anyone got a source that MSL refused an experienced coach? Ive certainly not heard that.
  21. Yes, i was agreeing with you but adding a qualification id like to see met.
