Not only to agree with the "it's preseason" thoughts, which are entirely true, but other than Begin/Murray, it's not like the Habs are normally a very physical team.

I don't think the Habs have to provide answers to anyone if another NHL squad signs a JR player's teammate. That's just silly.

Doubts About Perezhogin's Stronghold On Third Line.
huzer replied to PB's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
The difference is, Carbonneau is more than likely using this as more of a motivational tool, and people are misinterpreting them his comments as saying that Perezhogin needs to be cut. EDIT: Not only that, but other than Carbo, who on this forum has seen Zhog in person this fall? Armchair GMs, armchair scouts, etc.... -
Are you anything except anti-US? I haven't seen a positive American post from you.

Doubts About Perezhogin's Stronghold On Third Line.
huzer replied to PB's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post Carbo's comments. I know it's been a long summer with no Habs games, but sheesh, after one game, people are scribbling Latendresse's name into the lineup and trading Perezhogin for the preverbial bag o' pucks. Others are already jumping off the Huet bandwagon and hoping Price makes the lineup. Get a grip, it's September 20th. -
And anyone is even remotely surprised by this? Not just Willie, but all the cops have to do is pull over any tour bus.
-
"Tough" guys are retiring all over the place because they can't find work. I would rather have Downey in the lineup than a "dedicated" goon, there isn't much point in a player who has a so-called talent that is barely required anymore. The Habs won't stock the farm with goons to call up in case we face a "tough" team. Let McGratton and other idiots chase our players around and try and draw penalties. As shown before Souray and Komisarek won't turtle if challenged. The salary cap and the change of the game itself is really eliminating the specialty role of goon. If that's solely the reason some people tune into hockey, then their recourse is to tune in to various minor leagues.
-
Wow, who cares that he's gone? Talk about a person that made zero difference or contribution to the success of the Habs.

Lol...a little Entourage reference there... What about the infamous KoZus? And my screen name? Just a play on my last name is all. What I was usually called when I played hockey (when I wasn't being referred to as a jackass.)
-
OT: I see the topic title and think of that lame SNL movie of the same name. Never saw it, thankfully. To be quite honest, not a lot of teams have "superstars" on them. Kovalev, Samsonov, Koivu are some big names that I wouldn't quite sneeze at. I'd rather have a solid team than one dominant player joined by others that are merely a supporting cast.

This will always happen. Copycats making threats, and local authorities are already (rightfully so) on a heightened alert an will take no chances. There are still details of Columbine here that make it into the news.

Who Do You Want The Most To Pass Training Camp?
huzer replied to habs_in_the_blood's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
I agree. Although it's only training camp, I like Carbonneau's statements about him and the he "stepped it up" while playing with Samsanov and Kovalev. I wish it was a sign of things to come... -
Don't see this happening at all.

They're getting snow (and making it) about 8000 ft out here. Gotta be the first resort (well, Loveland and A Basin aren't resorts) to open in October. A Basin is usually open from mid-October through the middle of June.
-
Lots of stuff to do in Denver, you'd have to tell me what you like. Mountains to the west, LoDo is fun to go grab some beers (don't just stay until closing time, someone WILL think you're eyeing their girl and will want to fight you. 100% guaranteed.) All of the stadiums are downtown, Coors Field, Pepsi Center, Invesco at Mile High.

Congress Ponders A Fence Along The Us-canadian Border
huzer replied to Pierre the Great's topic in The Lounge
My lord, people, quit overreacting. It's a freakin' study for chrissakes. Guess what (here's a shocker...) the same legislation has been put before congress before. Is there a wall/fence/dome/screenhouse/soap bubble over the states? No. -
Congress Ponders A Fence Along The Us-canadian Border
huzer replied to Pierre the Great's topic in The Lounge
A study means lobbyist have been successful in convincing Congress to do something. So congress allocates money to study what the lobbyist giving them millions of dollars to their favorite charity (themselves) want them to "study". Yeah! Sheesh, congress has approved money to prove that exercise and eating well contributes to being healthy and that being obese isn't healthy. There are thousands of examples of useless studies that congress has approved. The study will show (if it ever gets underway, which in itself is highly doubtful....election time poltics!) that a "wall" is potentially feasible on the southern border but unnecessary at the north. Then, another study will get underway to determine if it's really feasible...blah, blah, blah... You make is sound like the US Congress wants to build a wall along the Canadian border now. Couldn't be further from the truth. I know shocking headlines bring more people to read an item, but at least be truthful and not sensationalist. So really, this topic is "dumb pure dumb". -

Bah...misleading headline here. They're endorsing funds for a study. Whoop-d-doo, like they haven't brought this up before. -
Cool, thanks for the update. I'm really getting excited for the season to start.

Personally, I think shaft material has made the biggest difference in making shots harder the past few years, but those definitely took away from accuracy. More curve on the blade does indeed make wrist shots deadlier, but it doesn't help accuracy on slap shots. As far as making the backhand disappear, if players are using relatively flat blades now (a la Oates, Gretzky), I don't think an extra quarter inch is going to make them all of a sudden change their minds. They'll probably continue to use a flat blade.

Well, I'll chime in and agree with the consensus. Stupid contract that saddles the Isles for 15 years. His other gamble turned out wonderfully. A 15 year guaranteed contract is just absurd. Might it work out well for the Isles? It sure as hell better since they now have (at the moment) an expensive, unproven commodity that there is no way they can get out of it.

Chaotic Scene As Shots Fired At Montreal College Cbc
huzer replied to Athlétique.Canadien's topic in The Lounge
All I can say about the whole thing is one big sigh. I'll even just explicitly tackle the issue of assault rifles. They have absolutely, positively no place in non military/police operations and should not be available to the public. But what's a good example? My old roommate. Religiously went to gun shows. Owns several AK-47s (complete with the drums that hold however many 100 rounds), other assault rifles, WWII rifles, sniper guns, etc. When you went to the gun show, they'd run a cursory background check, and sell you the weapon(s) of your choice. No registration needed. So here they are, assault rifles, being sold legally at those traveling gun shows, and you can just plop down your money and walk away with it. Sweet. Anyway, I hope for the best for everyone back east. Tis a sad, sad day. -
Yawn...yeah, because Senna, Hill, Villeneuve (sr and jr), etc or any other guy in F1 has never hit another driver before. Sheesh. Schumacher didn't win 90 races by knocking everyone out. Dislike the guy, but don't just flat out lie about his accomplishments. During races, every form, cars hit each other.

I just read the TSN article and agree with Clarke's statements. RFAs change teams in other pro leagues with GMs getting outraged, what's the difference? Screw the gentleman's agreement and let's play ball!

Ahhh, beer. Molson Ex, Labatt Blue, Erdinger, Hoegaarden, Blue Paddle, Stella, Harp, Sierra Nevada, Anchor Steam, Laughing Lab, 1554, Fat Tire, Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, Avalanche, Single Track... And that's just what's in my beer fridge right now.
