  1. I would hope that the Habs personnel folks would be high on the kids they drafted this past weekend. Hehe. I could see it now... "Well, we had no clue with who to take at #53, so we taped some names on the wall and had Bob throw some darts up there. It took a few tries, because we blindfolded him and he got Savard in the ass a couple of times..."
  2. Then Aebischer would be backing up Roloson (as he would likely re-sign there).
  3. "Par ailleurs, le Canadien a aussi annoncé que David Aebischer a accepté l'offre qualificative de l'équipe." It's in the story about Huet. The link is just posted twice by mistake, click the following for the Huet article, and it mentions Aebischer as well. Huet Signing
  4. Ok, the Canadian media, but the "story" broke in Montreal, it seems.
  5. As much as it pains me to see, my 6 years here have swayed me enough whereas the I'd consider the Avs my Western Conference team. Some of you here (especially the ESPN crew) have to be absolutely stunned that I would say that!!! As for Jose, boy, the press in Montreal just won't leave him alone. He's gone, deal with it, and move on. Let Colorado deal with his off ice issues.
  6. Something about number 11 for the Habs...I've always liked the players that have worn the number, even good ol' Ryan Walter. Kirk was one of my favorite Habs as a player, and I think he's going to fit in quite well as a coach with Guy.
  7. Good o' Habsguru...hahahaha. And what? You don't like me Calling him Vinny La Clavicle? Go collar bone, go!
  8. Anyone here a myspace person? My girlfriend wanted me to sign up, so I've joined the exciting land of myspace. Just wondering if anyone else from Habs land as on there?
  9. Well, to be fair, Spector doesn't make them up, he just gets them from the local media newspapers.
  10. Not only that, but I paid someone with a paypal account, and they removed that money from his account after 2 months, saying that the transferred money was "under dispute", and didn't return it to me. So there was quite a bit of money that paypal just took. And this wasn't even something I bought on ebay, a friend needed to borrow some money, so I sent some to help him out through paypal. Niether of us ever saw that cash again. So there's not even a statute of limitations on when/how/why they can take money away from people. I lost a lot of money because of 2 people through paypal. You do not need an account to pay with paypal, you can just use a credit card, but then a non-bank entity has your credit card information on record. I don't trust paypal (an ebay company) at all.
  11. If they didn't sign Downey, they would've just gone out and signed a similar player for around the same money, so the fact that he stayed with the team doesn't bother me at all. It's not like Downey and Kostitsyn are going to be fighting for a roster spot against each other. And I got just the response I expected in terms of Begin, but I think everyone missed my point. I'll start by saying I'm happy they locked him up for three more years. I like Begin. But hockey economics are so far out of whack, even still! Over 1M per year is a lot of money for a guy whose ROLE is as a 4th line player. Sure, he can do more in a pinch, but so should most 4th liners, as long as they aren't asked to be a front line player for a couple of weeks at a time. It's funny how people here arbitrarily through about a million here, a million there, as if it's an insignificant number.
  12. I don't mind baseball...but to be honest, unless it's a bottom of the 9th close game (etc, etc) I don't find it that exciting. There aren't many exciting things going on in a game where the great percentage of time, the players just stand there.
  13. Huet, although I'm obviously no scout, is a damn good goalie. Good players make their job look easy, and Huet makes it look easy. Spectacular? No...that's because he's so positionally sound. I think Huet will continue to fair well because he doesn't flop all over the place and expend extra energy like other netminders tend to do. While it would be great for the Habs to have that 1-2 punch of Aebischer and Huet, I think it's money probably better spent elsewhere. Two solid potential experienced starters? It's a luxury, not a need. I think Danis is ready for the role as backup.
  14. Not to discount the importance of these signings, because I like all three players, but I think Begin at 1M/yr (and I"m sure I'll get crap for this) is a bit much money for a fourth liner. I know he's a spark plug, etc, etc...but that just seems like a lot. Granted roster size is much different in the NHL than NFL, but when you look at an NFL team, there are a few of the veterans making league minimum (still a hefty salary)...yet it's rare you find anyone (other than players on their initial contracts) making the NHL league minimum anymore. An NHL team (if it spends to the cap) still spends more per player than an NFL team (if it spends to the cap). Off of that soapbox, I'm glad Gainey is keeping these players around...Downey, had me let him go, would've just replaced him with a similar player, so I'm fine with that. Murray and Begin are energy guys that the Habs have been lacking for a while, so it's great that they're locked up. Just stay healthy, Steve!
  15. They're just writing for the market. If it was TSN, there would be 6 or 7 hockey players, and a handful of other sports represented. To me, it looks like SI pulled a few names, since they have most sports have at least one representative (soccer, tennis, hockey, golf). I just don't understand the baseball picks...who is excited by Clemens/Pedro? And don't even get me started on basketball. Then again, this is a hockey board...who wouldn't expect us to want more of our sport represented.
  16. Yeah, I stopped with eBay a while ago...between their fees, paypal fees, etc...it wasn't worth it anymore to sell anything. Now, if I "need" to sell something, it goes on craigslist.
  17. And my girlfriend officially got offered a job here, and is moving to sunny Colorado next weekend. Woo!
  18. Eek, another former Ottawa center who was chased outta town! Yashin's got talent, but he just doesn't play hard enough to be a Gainey player, IMO. Heck, we'd all "obviously" love to play for the Habs, but I think Ribeiro's lack of effort and inconsistent play are enough to get him a one way ticket out of town.
  19. If you're an american with anti-american sentiment that's fine. But I assume it's toward the establishment that's in power, and not a generic "americans suck" feeling. I'll reiterate what I've said before, this is a hockey board. I'd prefer if hatred, not only towards the country I reside in, but towards others as well was left unsaid and we stick to what the forums were created for.
  20. Umm, maybe not everyone voted for G.W. Boo the anthem all you want at a truly international event, but leave the NHL and it's multinational teams alone. I'm starting to get sick and tired of the anti-American sentiment, and the defense of it, on this board. :puke:
  21. That's great to hear! My mom would be 75 this year, but I'm the youngest of 9. Congrats! I'm crossing my fingers for a job I just interviewed for as well...
  22. And if you look at the Habs drafting record...how many FIRST rounders made the team? Anyway, I think the draft as a whole is a crap shoot, and I'd even go as far to say after the 1st round, maybe halfway into the 2nd. Even Perezhogin at (I think) 25 was considered a "project" by most scouts.
  23. And I get email from the gf while she's on vacation in Mexico, that unexpected note definitely made me happy!
