  1. Unfortunately, the Habs aren't deep at D down on the farm, which is why they went on the run during this year's draft grabbing dmen and centers. It's not like the forward position where the Habs are struggling to find spots for some promising youngsters. As far as the one comment regarding Souray bashers, you've got to admit Souray definitely struggled for a good portion of the year, and I'd even go as far to say that his only truly good season was his breakout All-Star year. I used to be amongst the worst of the Souray bashers back in the day, and while he's a decent dman for the Habs (mainly due to the lack of depth on the blue line in Montreal), he still frightens me, especially in one on one situations. I know Spezza is good, but that highlight reel goal just makes me cringe everytime I see it.
  2. I'm a loser because Bobby Smith wore #15? I wasn't responding to any trivia question, I was just simply stating that to me, the number reminds me of Bobby Smith.
  3. I wouldn't want Dumont, too much local pressure for him to produce at a higher level than is realistic. I don't really think there's room for him on the team, especially with a nearly $3M salary.
  4. For some reason, I'll always think of Bobby Smith when I think of #15.
  5. I'll assume you're referring to the Briere/Ryder + prospect. Depending on the prospect, I'd be inclined to take an offer like that. But the Habs would need to have something in place to move Ribeiro. I don't think this is going to happen, but hey, it's August, it's slow, and something needs to be talked about. Zednik for Lang! Oh wait, that can't happen for the Habs anymore...HA!
  6. Every offseason is full of optimism. I hope for the Habs this year it is well founded. I think the Habs are stronger, but still did not address what the team even considered its biggest need, a 2nd line C. The Habs also now have question marks on defense. Bouillon and Streit injured, and people are just assuming Cote will be able to step in. I know speed is the new mantra of the NHL, but I still think something is to be said for grit. Look at the Sens, grit has long been a missing element of the team and they haven't been able to live up to expectactions. They've got tons of skill/speed guys. The Habs are falling into the same mold. Murray and Begin are great energy players, but guys like Ryder, Ribeiro, Samsanov, Johnson, Bonk, Kovalev, and to a lesser unkown, Perezhogin and Kostitsyn aren't guys that bring much more to the table other than skill (whether offensive or defensive). That's 8 of our 12 forwards. I'm expecting the Habs to fair slightly better than last year, and potentially NOT be going down to the wire for a playoff spot. That said, I still expect around a 6th seed for the team, and maybe about a 4 point improvement over last year. Guys are going to get hurt, players are going to slump, and the Habs are not deep down the middle. We saw that when Koivu went down in the playoffs. If Koivu/Ribs happens to get hurt (more a when then if) Bonk doesn't have the footspeed, and that basically leaves Plekanec. And don't tell me Higgins/Johnson will move to C, not gonna happen.
  7. The Ducks have 2 Norris dmen in Neidermayer and Pronger, they have absolutely zero need to add payroll to their defense core.
  8. Not saying I expect any moves from the Habs for the remainder of the summer. However, I must add...people, do you think Habs management is going to come out and say "Yes, we are looking for a place to trade Aebischer, we have no need for him"...or that Souray isn't going to deny that a trade was requested? Someone pointed out before, his response to the trade rumours was that he loved playing in Montreal. Not exactly an outright claim to not wanted to be traded. Anyway, my point is, don't use what management has said, or players have said, as reasons for players not moving. Didn't the Habs promise Kirk Muller that he wouldn't be moved mere days before he was shipped out to the Isles? (I know it was a different regime in charge at the time, but management/player statements mean nearly nothing in the game of business that is the NHL.)
  9. Komisarek? It took me a while to figure out who GL was, too. Full names, people!
  10. I'll remember the Forum just as I left it...I haven't heard good things and won't go to visit. Kinda sad, actually. It's been over a year since I've been back east, so I'm excited for my trip.
  11. Bummer, I think I'll be gone by that point. Oh well, I just have to make another trek back during the winter to catch a regular season game or two.
  12. Oh, I've been keeping tabs on the Landis story. Until the rest of the testing is done, I won't pass judgement. I think everyone stateside was expecting yet another "American dopes at the Tour" story...it wouldn't be le Tour without it. Am I shocked, not at all.
  13. Many moons ago, I used to go to DJ's on Crescent for the Thursday $10 drink 'n drowns. When I drive back to NY this summer, I'll head up to Montreal for a couple of days. I could be cheesy and say that my favorite place was the Forum, I went to a lot of games there and have yet to visit the Bell Centre.
  14. I've got a Klein Attitude Comp right now, I'm still in hard tail land, even though I mostly ride downhill on the trails. I'm just starting to look at road bikes, I have no clue what I'll end up with.
  15. Anyone know when any of the camps are planned for the Habs? I'll be driving back to NY, and staying there over the course of the last 3 weeks in August (possibly longer) and was wondering if there will be any Habs related stuff going on. Even a mini-Habsworld get together if anyone is going to be around.
  16. Hey guys, thanks for the ride here at Habsworld, I won't be around anymore. Good luck to everyone, and of course to the Habs. I'm done.
  17. White's signing was initially announced last week, so the NJD just must be making it "official" today.
  18. And as the article states, this has been a busy signing period fo the Habs. Brisebois must be busy as hell!
  19. Sweet, thanks for the updates. If only the Habs would do another Vail training camp...I may be heading back east anyway, so that might be a moot point!
  20. At least the Habs are locking up a lot of players for the farm.
  21. Heck, the Flyers can't even remember who they draft!
  22. Add another prominent, marketable name to the list as Danica Patrick is the latest to wander towards Nascar waters. Not a done deal or anything, but ESPN says her father (who is also her manager) was asking around this weekend as her current contract is up at the end of the season. http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?s...&id=2515044
  23. Ha! I'm glad to see someone is finally being honest, I knew it wasn't a dream on my part.
  24. I found that shocking as well. Villeneuve also hinted at it before the Canadian GP. F1 jumping to Nascar? That just doesn't sound right.
  25. Worth $673,000. http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=170942&hubname=nhl
