always good to beat the Maples - hope we win. question tho - with the Duck loss today, do we only need to wish for a Icelander loss to keep the Maples out of the lottery at least?

i'm SOOOO concerned about the way Molson is handling this stuff. i worry that all the terrible timing of moves may be coming from him - which means --- this isn't the end of our troubles, but perhaps only the beginning! sure hope i'm wrong. i like the talent direction the team was headed towards under Gauthier (not the direction in the standings, obviously). i am less optimistic today than i was yesterday --- hopefully a new GM is announced very soon and can restore my confidence in ownership

I agree nickm - this team isn't nearly that bad, and I can't wait for next season to prove this to be true. new management with top pick, healthy Markov (even of not 100% of the Markov we used to know and love but close), no Gomez, a decent UFA (no star since slim pickings this year), all our young dmen with another year under their belt (Subban, Diaz, Emelin) along with Markov, Kaberle, Gorges & UFA defensive D. this team is just fine! plus, none of what I'm saying is far-fetched! there is no miracle hope in here - closest is that Gomez is actually gone and that the top 5 pick actually has rookie year impact. 2012-13 is gonna be just dandy!

I do call myself a fan. and btw, I still look at the standings and dream of my Habs winning out this season to have a miracle run to the Cup. thx for asking. as for the draft, I trust Timmins if we pick 1st OA or 30th OA - but if we are missing the REAL season, we might as well miss it real good (as opposed to the Maples propensity to finish 9th to 11th in the east or when they do finish last trade away their pick). mediocrity is what sucks - and if a terrible season like this sets us up with a player (along with a UFA or 2) to help us break the cycle, we may look back at this season as a blessing.

2 things ... haven't heard many people call for Timmins' head - I think his work has been outstanding so is a turn around possible or impossible? u seem to contradict yourself from dispare to hope (very little on the hope side, but there is a glimmer in that comment). crazy thing is your glimmer of hope is based simply on new management - im not all that certain by simply replacing management that we will find the grass greener on the other side. sigh - if only our resident unfanboy were Owner/President/GM/Coach/HeadScout of our beloved Habs ...

I get your point, but I don't agree. Price has a long way to go before anyone can suggest he is great (as in hall of fame), but he is great enough that he is rightly regarded as a #1 goalie who's backup will not only see minimal action in the regular season, but NO action in the playoffs. spend the money on a forward, not a backup. a forward that is BETTER than BabyBoomBoom Geoffrion.

zero sense. moving Halak or Price was not a Halak or Price problem (ego or otherwise) - it was a matter of it being silly to have a starting goalie salary siting on the bench every game.

exactly - 6 mil for a 20 goal scorer on the 2nd line is expensive while 3 mil for a 20 goal scorer on the 2nd line is fine (for example). i liked Cami but he wasnt value at his position. I'd rather go out now and sign a UFA at 6 mil who actually produces like a 6 mil dollar cap hit player should.
