  1. I just stumbled upon this and I thought I'd share it with you guys. I think this is a great article. Very very well written and utterly entertaining. ESPN Page 2 Bill Simmons It must have really sucked to be a kid growing up in Boston. It does seem though that just like death and taxes the Habs will forever be Boston's Dominatrix... :ninja:
  2. 64 as well.... Anyone think its a sign? What can 64 signify? 6-4 score for the home team? (God help us if we have to go through that tonight....)
  3. *Butterflies fluttering in my stomach* GO HABS GO
  4. Price t-shirt.....check Six pack chilling in the fridge......check Back up lap top on stand by in case of PC failure.....check Captain K and Frankie B back in the line up......check Bruins are going down tonite....You heard it here first. (I'm seven hours ahead of u guys so I can see into the future) :hlogo: GO HABS GO :hlogo:
  5. Ughhhh... Didnt' see the game yesterday, but I knew things didn't go well when I opened TSN and saw that the Sharks - Flames as the first news story. I just went through another 19 pages of Game Thread trying to make some sense of what went down last night. This is my take: Young fragile teams have the tendency of letting things get to their head, subsequentially boosting their ego to dizzying heights. This can be said about our team. Problem is, although our coaches have thousands of games experience at an NHL level as players; unfortunately, they have very few as coaches in the Playoffs and you get a sense they've been riding shotgun on the Habs ego cloud as well. We are treading on dangerous waters here. Someone (Hello Bob) has to smack them around enough to get their ass in gear. You don't want to frighten them too much though cause then you risk getting them stressed out, thus making them ineffective. In my view, now is where we separate the men from the boys; the leaders from the followers. This years regular season heroics were fine and dandy, but this is what counts. Having an "A" or a "C" on ur jersey means jack if you don't have your "H"eart in your sleeve and "B"alls in your jock to get the best out of yourself and your teammates. You must understand that this is not a game; this is war. You need warriors out there; not pussies. Go out there and win Game 6 convincingly. Grab them by the jugular and finish them off for once and for all.... Do it for the sacred jersey you've been blessed enough to wear. Do it for every little kid who's just waiting for a hero to emulate. Do it for the hoard of followers that bleed bleu blanc et rouge. And for the love of God, do it for every 30 yr old fool who's half way around the world who sacrifices sleep, work, his wife, and his sanity for this team.
  6. OMG.. I'm at work and I just saw this with no sound, and I am embarrased. I can imagine how bad it is when u actually hear it. What a disgrace
  7. I don't believe I missed this game. I was travelling from Boston to Athens. It's bad enough I had to be in Beantown a week early, but I also found out that my cousin has box seats for Tuesday's game and he's driving down from Montreal (one of the perks of working for TD Bank). Anyway, Game 2 is by far the most important game of the series. Win it, and ur two wins away from clinching. Lose, and ur back at square one. By the way, mark my words, but the time we're done with the playoffs, the city of Montreal will have a major love affair with Tom Kostopoulos. GO HABS GO
  8. WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know whether we're playing on Wednesday or Thursday? I'm in Boston on business this week. (Really wish it was next week..)
  9. Just came back from the party that Geolink was hosting...We were watching the game in between beers and the Tenacious D..... Here come the playoffs and there goes our sleep. I really believe that I'm gonna be on 4 hours of sleep every night till mid June. Good Lord I can't wait. This is the team oaf destiny. They will cause some serious damage... If we make the finals, I vow to clime the Acropolis, take down the Greek flag and hang up the CH....
  10. Not only would it push the Leafs higher up the draft table but we'd let Pittsburg clinch 1st overall. I don't know about u guys but the Caps are really starting to freak me out a bit....from the looks of it, they'll finish either 8th or 3rd... We lose and we finish 2nd, Caps probably finish 8th - we face Boston (hopefully), the NHL gets Crosby vs Ovechkin and everyone lives happily ever after.
  11. I think we can file this one under "Grand Larcony"
  12. Can I be the Greek correspondant? You guys can live feed me reporting from the Acropolis, which is exactly where I'm gonna hang my Habs flag if we win the Cup this year...
  13. I signed up with RDS right away and I must admit I was very satisfied with the quality. Mind u, having gone so long without watching hockey, I'm pretty much like a dog in heat so I guess I'm not that picky.
  14. The pot on tv's that Geolink (a.k.a Bobo) is referring to started during the 86' Playoffs when my little brother, who was 2.5 yrs old then, placed a pot on our Zenith (i was 9 yrs old then). My family left for the summer for our annual summer vacation to Greece in mid May, right after we beat the Rangers in the conference finals. We won that series 4-1 and the Game 5 (the clincher) was the only playoff game I've been to in my life. My dad used to own a restaurant in Joliette, and he got the regional sales rep from Molson to pony up for some tickets as a return for our business. (My dad was threatening to switch to O'keefe). Although I was only 9, I remember the game vividly, especially the players tossing equipment and sticks into the stands after they clinched they're presence in the finals. The atmosphere outside the Forum after the game was nuts. People were out on the streets, screaming and celebrating. I remember myself hanging out of my dad's sunroof and chanting along. I also remember him taking me to Green Spot before the game for Hot Dogs, poutine and smokemeat. (a distant cousin of ours used to own it). Anyway, back to the pot. As I was saying, we left for Greece for the summer (back when we could take 4 mth vacations), so I got to miss most of the finals. I found out the habs won the cup, (five days later than it actually happened of course, there were no papers or radio or anything) and I was extatic. When we came back from our vacation in September, I couldn't help but notice that the pot, was still on top of the TV. For some reason, I seem to believe that from within that pot came the positive karma that the Habs needed in order to win the cup. Now, I haven't had a chance to re-enact the whole pot superstition but I am seriously considering it. However, there are two problems I'd like u guys to help me out with. 1st - How to convince my wife I'm not crazy when she sees what I'm about to do. 2nd - How to balance a pot on top of a 40" LCD TV? Any suggestions will be more than welcome. :ghg:
  15. I bet my RDS membership that this is gonna get ugly soon...
  16. Man am I ever loving this. Our boys are playing great. Hustiling, always first on the puck. Stirring #$@!!! Blow them out of the building - show them who's boss...
  17. For anyone who's concerned about the feed from RDS... So far it looks amazing. definitely worth the 29.39 I spent.. With the way the Euro is right now that comes out to about 14 euros! Pal mal, pas mal.... Come on boys, make me get my money's worth!!
  18. Awwww man... That's full of shite. Sorry to hear that JLP. I'll let u know if the stream from RDS is better than the one ur "using" right now. I really hope it is cause I just forked over CDN 29.39! (Stupid GST + PST) If it isn't u can sure as hell be sure that RDS is gonna have me polishing up on my quebecois profanities.
  19. Go Habs Go! For those overseas, this will be the first game in history that is live streamed from RDS!! No more Sopcast or any other monkey business. For all those who are interested, here's the link... http://www.rds.ca/zonedematch/ It ain't free, but it sure as hell is worth the investment. Greek Independance Day tomorrow, so no work for me (which means I get to stay up and watch the game of the year) Woooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
  20. This sucks. I'll be the first to say that Komisarek's loss is O'Byrne's gain. This is his chance to grab the bull by the horn and solidify his presence for the playoffs. Call up Valetenko while we're at it... Oh, and as for Brisebois, as much as I love him, I hope he catches the chicken pox or mono.
  21. I'm not one to toot my own horn, but since everyone is going back to what they were saying at the beginning of the season I thought I'd post this... Game Thread | Florida vs. Montreal | 10/16/07 Helmethead You guys are hilarious. Whoever thinks that this team is not performing, or hasn't shown signs of major fundamental improvement as compared to the past decade is sniffing glue. We FINALLY have a nucleus comparable to teams that we have been envying since 1995. Do not underestimate the hockey sense, general capability and heart of the players of this team. I honestly believe that the mettal of most of our players under 25 (Higgins, Komi, Pleks, Chipchura and Price to name a few) is at least at par with that of that of Carbonneau, Skrugland, McPhee, Lemieux, Chelios and Roy. The difference is that the 1986 team was surrounded and literally broken in by Future Hall of Famers - Gainey and Robinson and others. Unfortunately, this 2007-2008 team isn't. Hence, these players need time to create their own identity. They need to find the way to win. The effort is there, and as time goes by, you will see this effort become more and more consistant. With this consistancy will come confidence. And with the confidence will come the results. And because this is a young team, with a deep farmteam (thank you Andre Savard and Bob Gainey) there will be a spillover effect through the system. Gainey is well aware of what this team needs. He is very reluctant to pull the trigger on a move that would bear our cupboard. Why you ask? Cause he (directly and indirectly) has been grooming these players to become leaders; to become winners. He knows their potential, and that's what worries him. You can either mortgage part of your future for someone who's gonna "possibly" help you in the short term, or be a little more patient and wait things out. Some people mentioned Gainey's trade of Iginla for Nieuendyk that brought Dallas the cup. Agreed, however there is one glaring difference between the NHL of then and now. Back then, trading prospects for primetime players would have the opportunity cost of losing a prospect. THAT'S IT! Today, not only do you risk losing a prospect(s) but you also risk putting your team in an uncompetitive position for many many years to come. Why? Cause of the salary cap. Fans have been kicking and screaming about the Habs inability to lure expensive UFA's over the past two summers. I am personally glad we haven't been able to. Any deal that sucks out over 20% of your cap space is LETHAL! Philly (was and is still) playing russian roulette with Briere. And all looks fine and dandy right now, and yes he MIGHT perform for them throughout the course of the year, but he has to do that CONSISTANTLY for the duration of his contract. If he doesn't - ur @#$#^*!!! Cause I'll bet you my last souvlaki that no one will want to take a risk on him at a cap hit of +8million a year. Oh, and for every one Briere there is a Brian McCabe or Zdeno Chara (you get the picture). That being said, I believe Gainey will make a bold move. It might be at the tradedeadline, it might be at the draft, it might be this afternoon. Bottom line is he is in full control of this team and overall we should all be very satisfied with his work. That doesn't mean that he shouldn't be critisized or that every move he make makes sense (Souray SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEALT!) but overall he has turned this team around. Trade Huet??? In my opinion, he should sign him ASAP. Geez...not only am I on pace to win point prediction competition, but I wrote this gem of a post back in October! Only thing I screwed up on was how I thought the whole Huet ordeal should be handled. This team is destined for great things. We have gotten our first glimps this year. I have full faith in their ability and I seriously think that they will continue to surpise all the pundits. Anyone else think I should book my tickets to Montreal for June?? :ghg:
  22. Looks like a shutout get you an automatic start.... http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/248086.html Go Halakalak Go!!
