  1. I will never hope for another team. Everyone seems to be under estimating how good of a defenseman Weber is, shake your heads a bit fellas, Weber is no dud, anymore than Subban is the next coming of Orr. I'm not saying it's a great return for Subban, in fact I believe we could have gotten more, but I didn't believe we could get a defenseman as good as Weber back but all in all, it's a shake up and culture change, and to be honest, I've never heard a player say "me" or "I" any more than Subban has, so the sky isn't falling on me. Robots aren't all bad, you know, guys like Crosby, Toews, Gretzky, you know, perennial all-stars, Conn Smythe winners, you know? Subban is and always will be a "look at me" guy. Habs brass din't like his attitude I guess, although, like most Habs fans, I loved the guy in these last few years, Subban has been the #2 bright spot, second only to Price, who really is the best player in the world. Compare Price's demeanor and Subban's, I take the calm cool, attention deflecting guy who doesn't inspire the other team to beat him by antics that are somewhat less than "team oriented". Guys like Weber let their play do the talking, and you'll never hear it's not "their job to score goals..." If you are thinking about cheering for another team, then pick one and join their discussion forums, because this deal is done, and for at least 3-4 years, the Habs aren't any worse, in fact, arguably better, and certainly, beyond a doubt, harder to play against. The "face" of the team has been changed, and a large percentage of GM's and elite coaches think Weber is more than ok... Ok, now I'll get my Kevlar gear on, and stand beside my old buddy Don for the stoning
  2. WoW is all I can say, the "cup window" better be in the next year or two. Done is done, good luck to PK in Nashville, and welcome to Mtl Mr. Weber!
  3. He was reportedly looking for a 2+ mil extension last year? I would take him for 1.2-1.5... so long as remembers that physical play got him a role on the Habs, not the dream of being a top 6 finesse guy he thought he should be. BTW, like your new avatar MoLG!
  4. Healy got the axe on Sportsnet , along with 5 others? Damian Cox is going to be fully on radio, I wonder who else they canned?
  5. Sportsnet is saying Habs talking to Weise? Therriens answer to the top 6?
  6. My ol' lady does that once a month for 3 days
  7. Just your opinion though, not a bona fide error, or an error at all until it becomes an error, your opinion that Bergevin is wrong may be an error Everything is a crap shoot, but for me, the bottom line is Shaw is absolutely an upgrade on Eller, none of us really can argue that. Shaw had 6 pts, 4 goals in Chicago series, that says a lot for a 24 yr old. Commandant made 2 points, which are really the best posts in this thread... Eller out-Shaw in, for .4 mil. Problem? Nope. Now we are ready to focus on UFA's, WHICH HASN'T STARTED YET.
  8. Hogwash! It's not that they didn't think they were worth keeping, it came down to what was in the pipeline, and the money they could spend. Thing is, Blackhawks couldn't afford to keep them all, they wanted Ladd back for a playoff run though didn't they? Ladd would be a great UFA to sign, scores, physical, leader, plays in all situations, strong NHL'er, what's the problem?
  9. Shaw is 24, character player, 2 rings, there is no formula to calculate how his 6 years will go, what if he is a Marchand II? Potential is there, and this guy is a battle ready playoff performer, we didn't even have to pay for potential, he is already what the Habs need. Bergevin knows the kid well, and believes in him, so therefor I do too, I certainly believe Bergevin's opinion more than, oh let's say anyone on this board. I'd rather build my team around guys like this, than worry about getting in a bidding war over guys like Stamkos, you can't have 9 Stamkos' on your team, so why not build a team that is a complete team, without putting all your eggs in one basket, and then that basket gets wasted by one injury crippling your team? Team sport, and great team building so far by Bergevin.
  10. Rumours make clicks, that buzz website is the king of not just rumours, but any rumour they can think of. Sad and not worth reading, just like this guy Aivis...
  11. That's it exactly, Shaw is going to be a huge impact compared to Eller. Team improved. Now go for best UFA/UFA's we can get, team improved further... What's the problem, you guys miss Eller already? Relax... Chill out...July 1st is coming
  12. Wouldn't be a bit surprised. In the event MB doesn't land anyone else that is offensively gifted, I might not even mind, if he comes cheap enough... Okposo, Ladd, Brouwer would be my pecking order, but have no clue of cap implications for more than one. Like Stogey said, my final answer is; first priority sign Stamkos!!!
  13. In today's world of self righteous and offended and outraged pedestal living pillars of perfect human examples, yep, despicable...
  14. That's ok, nothing wrong with keeping everyone guessing what you're doing in the job of GM in the NHL. It's better than having the "closed mind" exposed...
  15. Yeah, really. That 3rd line would get murdered... Need Okposo first, then Ladd or Brouwer or someone with some thump in the top 6, Shaw on 3rd line, he has the ability for to move up to #2, lack of size in bottom of lineup is concerning, Lessio may just get a spot who knows?
  16. Shaw is the type of player this team needs, any playoff team needs, character in spades, grit in spades, and leadership and drive in spades. Those of you who would rather keep the slightly better picks obviously aren't focused on our "cup window" like a lot of you were saying earlier, need a better team now mantra. I was an Eller supporter, but tired of waiting, so the two picks won't be much different because we can compete with a healthy Price for 1st in the East, I truly believe that, and adding a "slightly bigger" but maybe less skilled Gallagher type player, for old under achiever of the year every year Eller, it's a great trade... Shake yer heads... instantly better team. UFA to come for the top 6...
  17. Another year of junior and he will crack the Habs roster in '18, I love this pick @ 9.
  18. And this is the only reason I don't want to see an expansion team in Que. Would love the rivalry games, but stipulating our prospects/team build must be any percentage of French is just wrong... same as the coach thing.
  19. The Edm offer thing is questionable in almost every way you look at it. Hall is their best "available" player, but a party animal that wouldn't work in Mtl. Eberle is not a player that stands out, or carries a team. Draisaitl probably is not a #1 C. Nurse is not comparable to Subban, and not a great replacement D man. RNH is not my choice as "the player I'd like to acquire to fix these Habs" Yak's value is low, not in this discussion. The 4th pick, that's not bad but not top 3, where the best players are. I'd keep Subban.
  20. There is no way trading Subban helps this team. Hall, Nurse, Yak, this years Edm pick, combined does not make the Montreal Canadiens instantly better, couple holes filled up front, and a schism created on the defense. Non-sensible. Price's puck playing ability, and Subban's skill set makes this team's offense run. Lack of goaltending crippled us last year, not lack of offense solely. When it comes right down to it, the team in the playoffs that ices the best 5 man unit will win more than they lose, our top five players are almost there, Patch, Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Subban and Petry are pretty good, add some punch to a second line, and we are right there with the best of them.
  21. He had what a 5 game pt streak? Good for him...
  22. Damn... I would like Keller at #9, but wouldn't be disappointed in Sergachev, he sounds like a steal at #9, not that "instant top 6" that everybody hopes and prays for, but at least for the long term benefit of the organization. Overall, you guys think the Habs are weak on D prospects more than forward prospects?
  23. It's true, the TSN guys are the best overall in the business.
